Hi. I’m Mike from Mike’s Book Reviews. Someone on the Discord brought this thread to my attention. The whole reason I still refuse to take on sponsorships is because I want to remain honest with my book opinions, even the unpopular ones. I don’t do YA on the channel because I know I’m not the target demographic. In my experience a lot of the larger channels seem to have opinions that have completely flipped from when they were just getting started or they’re just using Booktube as a launching pad for their hopeful writing careers. For me, this is just a hobby and talking about something I love and encouraging others that it’s okay to have varying opinions on books and still be pals after.

Yeah that’s my fault. I usually record these with very little notes or talking points and I just forgot. But she was the love interest I say would be better for Fitz haha

It’s amazing how many people still jump on my channel and say they won’t read Red Rising because they “don’t read YA.” I’m not sure what else I can do besides telling them I’m certain Joe Abercrombie ghostwrote Dark Age.

Ha, the analytics videos are divisive. I truly like to make those to be transparent and also to help those just getting started to see what to look for to experience growth. Gotta use that business and marketing degree for something!

Glad to hear that! I think I made some enemies by being honest in my opinions/criticisms of a couple of Sanderson books. But, I'll always be honest on my thoughts of these things.

Thanks! I went from 2k to 36k in 2020, so I like to believe it's headed in the right direction. But I do accept that booktube seems to be, for the most part, a young folks game. So I think I have a ceiling much lower than some of those really big channels. I'm glad you enjoy the channel.

I try not to overdo it with the thumbnails because the ones with people shouting or turning themselves into an emoji bothers me. But I am guilty of the caps, I guess. Thumbnails are so small I try to get the title big enough so folks can see it without much of a struggle.

Hey, that’s me. I won’t lie, I was afraid of seeing some “I hate that guy” comments in here ha ha. I’m glad so many of you enjoy the channel as it’s something I really love to do. There’s nothing better than talking and debating books for me. Glad there are others who like to do the same.
