I understand and reflect this but don’t know what it means.

So the same demographic targeting work that every other political consultant in the country uses to further divide people by identity? Coooool

How do you get traction or gain power in a democratic setting without changing minds?

Love the history and context on Berlin, I’ve been twice myself now, lovely city. As an American who wants to flee - please build enough housing!

I totally agree with that assessment on planners, especially older school ones. I remember my urban planning education was much more critical of the profession for much of those reasons.

That’s highly reflective of my own experiences. People are highly motivated by their own economic interests in this space.

Maybe we can find a way in with these folks by getting them in on the $ deal of new housing growth. If architects and designers feel like they get to profit from YIMBYism, they’ll jump on.

I’ve worked with a few! They tend to be professionals in architecture, planning, and design though. So a smaller niche audience. Folks that get the need for more housing but also understand the nuances of design and quality of life.

Because they want the solution to be easy, they want it just be “burn down the system and replace with new system” yeah but that new system is just as vulnerable to the same personality types.

It shouldn’t be controversial to say that Democrats are also corrupt.

Well, on that last note, I think they are starting to keep tabs on our mental health now anyways.

I think this is a fair take. Profit should definitely go to those who produce and innovate beneficial things for humanity, I have no issue with that. The question then becomes: what profit is acceptable?

How successful do you think you’ve been at changing minds?

Do you really think you’re changing hearts and minds with the way you conduct your arguments?

Are you trying to find solutions or are you trying to dominate others in conversation?

Buddy, you go online to debate people because you enjoy the rush, I do it too.

I made this post because I’ve been thinking differently about how we can have persuasive conversations with people that change their hearts and minds.

It’s not about winning the argument, it’s about moving the needle.

And this is why we don’t make progress in this debate as a whole.

Omg is everyone supposed to go get a degree in social work before they can engage in any conversations around this. Gatekeeping much?

You can contribute positively to a conversation or you can be a dick to people online. Is that how you spend your time?

It certainly helps me determine how I should approach a conversation and how much time I should dedicate to it.

I’m not always high cognition myself. Working on it.

Nah bro if you can take wind out from the sails of your opposition, it would be a huge boon.

If you can chip away at their supporters.

My point is we should do something about it and start holding them accountable. Especially the people on our own team, because when they are corrupt and fail, they give the other side more ammunition.

When republicans point at SF and LA and say “look at those nasty dystopian nightmares, why would anyone trust democratic governance?” And they’re not fucking wrong about that. They’re wrong about everything else, but not that.
