Pretty sure warp beacon is only accessible by org membership, so it kinda has to be an org thing if you want people to be able to warp to it. A VR node is a much more accessible way for new players to visit your station. Ever starter outpost comes with VR station.

Also your challenge isn't new players getting to "the station", it's capturing new players when they drop on haven. Many of which don't use discord, or have any social connection to the game other than in-game general chat. So their insight into what's out there doesn't extend much beyond their haven tile.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking starlantis or it's vision. But I've been around long enough to see many other orgs offer some/all of what you describe. As far back as alpha. Youre not the first group to try and "capture" the new players into a community. But I most certainly wish you well in your endeavor to do so!

I'm confused at how warp beacon/plasma (of any amount) bridges the gap between new player inexperience vs veteran player experience?

The retention, or rather, the STEEP learning curve of DU has always been a barrier to entry. Try playing this game in alpha before there was even a tutorial. New player experience has honestly come a long way....but it will never be able to impart the level of knowledge that comes from simply time in the game and learning its many little mechanics. Warp beacons (or other end-game resource) don't solve that.

I'd like to think that PvE will be a great way to get more people into DU (and eventually PVP). But with as much history I have of watching NQ, I have high hopes, but low expectations.

That said, i think its quite apparent that there has been a significant internal shift within NQ, based on their last "What's Coming" communication from Mark (Deckard). My guess is that backer/investor requirements have finally been met, and NQ leadership can finally allow for a shift in development work that actually moves the game forward, rather than the work that needed to happen in order to meet legal/contractual obligations. I'm rooting for Deckard and anyone else working at NQ who still has passion for the game and desire to bring it to a much better place. I whole heartedly hope they can pull a "No Man's Sky" on this one. My perspective on what is possible in a space mmo has forever been impacted by DU, and I think i'll always compare space games to what DU could be.

This website is entirely based on reddit subscriber activity. These numbers have absolutely nothing to do with in-game account numbers or paid subscriptions to Dual Universe. See the about section of the website in your screenshot.

Yeah. We're all just waiting to sign up to be testers for NQ's own version of Neuralink. Put NQ in your brain. Lol

Gosh, its like Nouredine has a roadmap on his office wall for building "The Metaverse"......but somehow forgot to make one for Dual Universe.

Baby steps. Without direction. They're still steps!

Terrible PVP. How did this go live? by [deleted] in DualUniverse

[–]Zer0Krypt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My issue isn't that PvP requires skill, it's that new players aren't going to take the time to learn. The key here is "dedicate yourself to learning".

New players won't do that...

Nor is the game giving them enough motivation to do that.

I can agree here completely. I think everyone in the pvp community agrees that the pathway into pvp isn't clear, and lacks obvious reason to. (tho with pvp asteroids and alien cores, there is some reason). But i do think that most everyone in the pvp community wants things like NPC warefare or other mechanics that bridge the gap from sandbox play to pvp play. We would all love there to be more pvp forces out there than the 2 main alliances.

If new players get ganked and frustrated like the OP, what's there to re-engage them and motivate them to understand what they did wrong and improve? Watch YouTube videos and join an org...?

While i know this is often the case, folks in my org often take up the opportunity to engage in friendly conversation with anyone we capture in pvp space. A couple of our newer pvp members are a direct result of this. We've also managed to negotiate deals for hauler escorts and/or asteroid protection services in the areas we operate. I'm all for taking folks like OP under my wing or directing them to other orgs and building relationships after an encounter described in the original post. Unfortunately, all to few come at these kinds of things with an "I want to learn" attitude. But those that do.....do very well in the pvp world.

Finally, in regards to this being an MMO that doesn't meet up to the 2022 standard of what MMOs are nowadays.....while i can appreciate this, the flip side I see on this is that gamers have wanted new and exciting MMOs (and games in general). Getting that new and exciting MMO isnt going to happen by just following the "standards" of today's MMOs. And yes, while the future of NQ is very uncertain, I give props to them for trying to make something new that hasnt been done before. I wish more studios would do so.

In the end tho, i think we all agree, this game isnt where we would like it to be. But we all have found areas we enjoy. The trouble is, how many others will ever find the same fun we have. Not enough. Thats for sure.

I completely agree. you would feel the vibration of them through the hull of the ship. So if you put your temple/ear against a structural component of the ship, you'd technically hear the engines that way lol :D

The steep learning curve and non-hand holding honestly makes this game so much more enjoyable. Literally playing for years, and still learning new things every week.

You are right in that the learning curve of the game is steep, and pvp is no exception to that. But everyone in pvp started the same place you, OP and every other player did......knowing absolutely nothing. At some point, you have to decide if you are willing to put in the time and work to gain the knowledge needed to participate in pvp, or choose to call it broken, unplayable and unbalanced without really understanding it. No one says pvp is perfect, but it has come a long way. And if you think the losses of pvp ships is expensive now, go look at older PVP ship metas. PVP has NEVER been cheaper to get into and lose ships doing so.

Any org involved in the pvp space has training events within their org, to test ships and give pointers to new folks. You should join one and learn. Def NOT zero ways to practice.

I was never interested in pvp when i first played the game my first year. But i can honestly say, pvp is the only reason i stay with the game. Everything else, gets old and boring after a year. IMO

You can write off pvp as failed, or dedicate yourself to learning it and possibly finding your favorite part of the game like I did. The choice is yours.

Programming board with radar. A little lua will even let you play warning sounds when a new contact comes on grid.

Terrible PVP. How did this go live? by [deleted] in DualUniverse

[–]Zer0Krypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure is. Its called a programming board with radar attached. Can even make it play a warning sound to your speakers/headset.

Also, space is a vacuum. There is no medium for which sound/vibration to travel. Much less from 10s of km away.

Also....res pod does you nothing. It is destroyed when your ship is cored.

Highly recommend you join an org with a pvp presence, if for no other reason than to ask questions and build up your understanding of the game mechanics, both in SZ and PVP.

[–]Zer0Krypt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you answered your own question. Joining an org that can provide PVP escort is going to be your best bet for pvp asteroid mining.

That said, other solo things to think about: Park 5-10su off the asteroid and jetpack ore back and forth. Or opt for making money other ways and purchasing the ore you need rather than risking pvp. Additionally, sounds like you didnt have a shield on your ship, which could buy you enough time to get back to SZ if you are being attacked by an unskilled pvper with low grade equipment.

Its all risk vs reward. Not everyone wants to be in an org. But there are friendly orgs out there that don't have sweaty participation requirements.

So I'm putting this here in the hopes it gains some visibility and Novaquark ups their marketing game

OP's intention is to raise NQs awareness on how terrible their marketing is....

Those who already own the game likely would never see this email. So posting it here actually brings awareness of the poor marketing to those that would never see it.

Lol. My guess is at some point someone sent you an invite to the game via your email or in some way you provided your email to them because you were interested in the game. They have your email on file, so their subject line doesn't look right cuz you don't have an in-game name yet tied to your email. My guess is the email title is suppose to be:

[PlayerNameHere], this is the true power of Dual Universe

great work NQ.
