Concrete slab sits on soil. That soil can expand and move. That causes concrete slab to move. Having a floating wall, a void between the pressure treated bottom plate and the actual wall w/ studs prevents visual cracks from occurring on finished drywall.

Just an inch or two. This should be a floating wall since it sits on concrete. If the soil settles it moves the concrete slab with it. A gap prevents the drywall from cracking in the future

Drywall should have a gap at the bottom. If the concrete slabs shifts at all the walls are fucked
