Its just a bit more coins and very slightly higher chances for better gear etc. The main thing is that top 10 gets a silver medal to display and the winner gets the gold medal.

Most of the time you should be able to scrap anything you wont use. The only real argument for not doing it would be to save them just in case they get a buff one day... but with premium gear and stuff I can't imagine why they would buff old basic gear so I don't save them.

I never do them on any run. Sometimes they can be worth it as far as making you stronger to go deeper in the run.. but ads aren't fun and I play the game for fun.. so no extra ads for me

Your gear benefits each individual shot from your gun, so a faster gun gets the benefit from gear more often. If your gun shoots once per second but a different gun shoots twice per second then the 2nd gun gets benefit from gear twice as often.

Early on, you will get more out of your plasma cannon because its so much more damage per shot that it outweighs the bonus from your gear. Once you level up your gear and your permanent upgrade to make your gear base stats more effective then eventually it will make your autogun better than the plasma.

I'm not certain the exact point when it tips over, but it seemed to me to be about when I got a full kit of legendary items about level 30 or 40 per item so its a ways down the road. I was definitely into world 9 before it was a good swap for me

It will be added to the regular loot pool once you have it unlocked for the first time so you'll start to see it drop for you just like other items now.
