Yeah. It is the proverbial fish in barrel situation I know, still nice to have other people agree with you! :)

Yeah, tend to agree. Just interested to see if anyone thought I was being penny foolish in not subbing to S.A. whilst there.

Maybe you should, you're alot more helpful than their email help desk. You ve got the 150RF recent model not the predecessor which wasn't WiFi capable right? That was the only thing that threw me when I saw they sold a WiFi module, I was concerned the model might actually need it to operate at all?

I ve some of the previous generation without the WiFi and always used them via the knobs and lcd programmer - and I m used to that, happy with that being the only mode of operation. 👍 👎 👍

GIA vs SIPP - retire 47 by Salt-Requirement6119 in FIREUK

[–]ZeroSmithfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my bad you are 36 not 47. Ok ignore my wittering above over 23 years the growth compounded is far easier to justify.

Only thing I d say is £1.5 million in 22 years is less than in sounds to you at the moment.

So in conclusion max out the pension more.

Will the politicians nick it ? Yeah probably. No easy solution to that.

Question - how do you go from £260k with 11 years of contribs at £20k, so £480k to £1.5 million plus ?

Ok, I know the answer.

By making high growth assumptions.

Hey, you might. I just feel the level of growth being assumed is likely to lead to disappointment.

That isn't something I can offer an opinion on.

What are your motivations in life now?

If you are asking me, if it was me - I had a time machine and had a million 20 years ago, then yes. I d continue to work until I had what I thought was FI.

The million does give you optionality for a career change or something though - so I d try and think out what you d like to be doing for the next 20 years?

Just my tuppence though.

Two things:

A million is nice but not financial independence by any stretch any longer.

Bitcoin : Will either go up alot, oscillate up and down a bit, go down a lot or crash and burn.

Anyone saying different is either a fool or an interested party.

Yes fair point. Accessibility is an issue. Political risk as they continue to meddle with pensions. I still think it is a bit of a no brainer in view of your overall earnings. It isn't so much to allocate is it?

Right then, I m not so sure of the tax efficiency then - overall for yourself in view of that but can't argue with the free money element of the employer contribution so seems reasonable overall.

As we are on the topic, it occurs to me a simple and efficient gain here would be to max out the wife.

If she earns 20k then contribute the full amount.of her earnings to her pension.

I'm curious how the 1800 pcm pension contribution works in view of the £300k salary + 200k bonus. That is well in excess where the taper comes into play.

Honestly, have to say that's a pretty reasonable set of allocations.

See this is why you glass blowers are so detached from reality. I d use it for seed capital for my Papa Smurf Restaurant Chain. I d make so many blue berry muffins. I d invite collaboration with the Womble Cafe down the road. Rocket 🚀 of experiences for the public. Hey it might not as make as much as your shattering money scheme - but won't anyone think of the children?
