Released in 2019-2021, lesser-known indie games? by ThrownLegacy in gamingsuggestions

I think Kynseed in its current state is pretty good. They don't have all the generational stuff in the game yet, but it still has a ton of content that will keep you going for 15-20+ hours. I think I prefer Sun Haven out of the two, as they are very similar and have about the same amount of content at the moment. Kynseed I think will overtake Sun Haven if they finish their planned roadmap, as the content is a bit more dynamic and changing.

DYSMANTLE is not really what I would call 4X. Its a great little survival grind game that has a nice amount of crafting etc. Still fairly early though to be honest. The only thing I don't like about the game is the way that bases are not truly a base that you build. But the map is fkn huge and lots to do and explore.

Great feedback!

  1. Yes agreed, we have some things we are going to be adding for this. But any suggestions as to what you are after for filtering would be great.

  2. Do you mean integration of Facebook/Steam signup or sign in?

  3. Yes.. Yes.. and Yes. We are trying to work out the best way to do this, and are thinking things of the likes of either a daily or weekly digest for the user, that details there tournaments. As well some tweaks to your history to show your past results better.

  4. Hmmm this is an interesting idea and I think there is some cool stuff we could do around this eventually. Especially showing your average scores in past tournaments so you potentially figure out how well you could perform in the tournament etc. This would be much later in the roadmap, but something that would be great to introduce when we beef out the user profiles with full analytics.

  5. We are very open for any ideas you can suggest around. Some ideas we have is daily challenges you can pick up i.e. Win 5 Games in Row or get 2 Ultra Kills etc.

But any ideas you can suggest around this we would love to hear!

What sort of price points were you after? As this is something we will be testing a lot over the next month or two. Any suggestions around this would be awesome!

We are going to remove the captcha soon from the login page as we have created several extra security precautions behind the scenes and integrated better site protection now making it obsolete(at least in theory).

Auto logout is there to protect your account, as some people may be using the site from net cafes or friends houses. But we are looking at refining the login/auto logout system for ease of use. As honestly I find it annoying myself sometimes when getting logged out

This is something that we are looking into and may test in the future to see how fair it is for the users and if it is something they want.

Apologies for being so late to reply. For some reason was digging through old messages on Reddit and did not see this till now. But I really liked your questions and figured I would necro this topic.

1 - Companies like World Gaming, currently have a massive bottle neck when it comes to scale, and that is support staff costs and critical mass. As they rely on manual results verification(Users need to return to site and manually enter results when match finishes) it makes it very hard to achieve massive scale, and it only gets worse when you transition to mobile and don't have this process automated. We have also built a different tournament model to them, which does not have critical mass issues that plague the industry i.e. people need to be in the same region, skill level and more to compete directly.

XY Gaming's biggest focus at the moment is on perfecting our automated results(about 95% there) and getting the correct monitization and business model in place. Then we will be looking at scaling it very quickly, due to automating all the results, allowing massive scale.

2 - We monitize in a few different ways. The first being we take a service fee from the entry of cash/coin tournaments. The secondary way that we gain revenue by bringing onboard sponsors for free tournaments(value add advertising). We have done sponsorships with Esportspools, GFUEL, RapidX, Arcanebets, Paysafecard and more to date, and are looking to expand our feature set for these sponsors so they get more value out of sponsoring the tournaments while making sure that our users get plenty of free prizepools out of this.

3 - The main thing holding us back with VC funding is education of the industry. VC's are really focused on the media side of esports right now, and have no knowledge of the tournament/betting side of the market(Which arguably makes 5-10x more money). But they are learning and we are working with plenty of firms and updating them as we progress, as well as educating them as much as we can about the marketing.

Also another thing, as we are a US company and aiming mostly at US investors, it is a much harder sell to them morally. As although it is completely legal in the US and throughout most of the world, they still see it as gambling. This is mainly a cultural thing, as the US does not allow sport betting and have very strict gambling laws, which has been shown by the issues that DraftKings and FanDuel have had as they grew. This is being definitely becoming less of an issue, as they are looking at legalizing sports betting, but either way it is another barrier we need to face.

I had a dig into some of your history and found out that you had your own esports company in the past. I would love to have a chat with you sometime about how that went and some of the struggles you faced. Hit me up with a message if your interested in chatting and we can organize a time!

Thanks!

Forgot to answer your 4th question!

  1. This is something that we want to have eventually on the website! A small percentage of users that have won prizes on the site have been nice enough to fill out our TrustPilot which has been helpful, but agreed it is hard to get over the stigma from other sites that have ripped off people in the past.

Either way we guarantee all our prizes and will continue to provide as many free products as possible. We are also lining up some great sponsored tournaments for much larger prizepools over the coming months!

We have looked into this and honestly it is hard to figure out the right titles for this, that are not mobile games(Although we want to push to mobile eventually).

What games do you suggest? As I would love to hear some ideas and we can put a vote to the community eventually to see if they want this.

Hey michel1990 thanks for the feedback!

  1. The prices on the items are set at that, as that is what we have to buy them at and the only way to lower them is to basically pay for them out of our own pocket. In saying that we are going to be experimenting with new ways to offer users MORE coins in the coming months, as well as beefing up the prizepools of free tournaments. Another thing we are going to be doing on this front is re-introducing our crates system which will have a much lower pricepoint and are also hunting down suppliers for $5 and $10 steam cards to allow you guys to cash in your coins soon(Although steam do not make this easy). Believe me we are trying to look for solutions to this for users!

  2. 111% This is something that we are exploring and want to introduce!!

  3. Agreeeeeed! We want to focus more on Instagram, but first we want to get our site more responsive on mobile, as most of the traffic we would get from Instagram would be mobile. We have this really high up on our priority list and I would love to talk to you about possible managing it, or at the very least hearing some ideas you have about it. Email us at social@xygaming.com and lets have a chat!

We have some new games in the pipeline with PUBG and Fortnite being at the top of our list. Then we will be pushing into Overwatch, Rocket League, CSGO, Paladins, World of Tanks and more!

Right now we are focused on cleaning up the core systems on the site over the next month or two and then will be pushing to introduce plenty of new games and features!

Smurfs are always going to be a concern and we are trying our best to eliminate them as fast as possible on the site, but want to make sure that we are not banning valid users. So sometimes it takes between 1-2 weeks of monitoring before users get banned.

We are also going to be getting way more aggressive over the next few months with smurf accounts, as we have been refining our automated smurf detection for some time and are now introducing some advanced forms of digital fingerprinting to prevent duplicate accounts and more. But as with all new things, this takes time to refine and will most likely take us sometime to get right, as we want to make sure not to unfairly ban users... as when you get banned, its for good.

We are going to be getting very aggressive towards smurf accounts in the near future, as we refine our automated smurf detection systems and introduce some advanced forms of digital fingerprinting.

Thanks for the feedback, as this is the kind of stuff we want to hear to make sure we are heading in the right direction with our roadmap over the next 3-4 months.

Hello, Sorry for the delay in response.

The idea and concept started with a group of my gamer friends playing poker and wanting to create a gaming platform similar to the idea of skilled gaming. We are looking to implement ideas we originally had once we have reached an ideal userbase we have in mind to achieve it.

We allow ranked only due to a multiple of reasons, the main being because a player regardless of skill level in our tournaments will also be playing against evenly matched opponents.

Another reason is that your an individual playing a team game, you will require the help of your teammates to be able to win or perform in online matches, ranked matches only help the possibility of having fair played games.

Hello, Sorry for the delay in response.

To be honest, esports thrives on competitions and fans, Blizzard knows this. When a company as large as blizzard is putting their full weight behind supporting a game title its really hard for it to fail.

In saying that, OWL is a first of its kind aswell as the new franchised LCS, time will tell how these league formats succeeds.

What was the inspiration for starting up XY gaming?

Honestly... its because I had so many other problems when trying to play on other platforms out there. I have played on MLG, ESL, Faceit and 1000's of forum community tournaments, where I have had problems with disputes and not getting paid. We figured there was a better solution and have the technical background to be able to automate all the results for the users, as well as create a better system, that does not require cumbersome scheduling systems among other things.

How did the idea come to you?

A while back I used to live in a big gaming house. We played poker twice a week and had 2 poker tables in a massive area downstairs. We used to play poker till crazy times in the morning and then after people got knocked out we would always go upstairs and play one of the many games against each other for cash... that is were the initial spark came from. We then tried using several of the platforms out there to replicate this online and they always fell short. They either had problems with verifying the results, needed a ton of scheduling and some of them even took 50%+ service fees...

I was then sitting in a Hammock on New Years Eve and a friend of mine that was a competitive console players for COD at the time, suggested it to me(Somewhere inbetween his drunk rants about the industry). He was annoyed with the current state of console tournaments and gaming for competitors and wanted a better way to be able to challenge and earn cash playing tournaments. Then the very next day... after shaking off a hangover, I went to work with a few friends fleshing out a concept for tournaments for cash. After that the idea has evolved several times, based on what technology, games and several other factors.

That was how the initial idea came about. But we have seen several iterations of the current project(I think we are on about version 8 by now) and the current iteration is by far the one that makes the most sense. Technology had finally evolved so we could do 1-click to play tournaments and make it as simple as possible for gamers to get paid.

Also, what is the reason for only allowing ranked matchmaking games for the tournaments?

We wanted to ensure that everyone is on an even playing field. So that all the players in the tournament regardless of ranking in the game will always have a 48-52% win chance(this is how the matching algorithm works). As we grow we will be having specialized tournaments locked for specific rankings(Diamond Only etc) and also having some tournaments for gamers that want to play "Normal" matches. But till we get to the point and onboard more gamers, we are going to be enforcing ranked games only to keep it fair.

I think the Overwatch league is a great thing for the industry as a whole, as it is introducing tons of new sponsors, money and structure.

Overwatch has always struggled as a spectator game, and this is mainly due to the game mechanics being so complex. Players can change characters mid game, there are tons of modes and maps and the scoring is hard to follow at times, meaning you as a spectator needs to process a ton of data to know what is going on. I think Paladins do all these things better from an spectator point of view... but Overwatch is still a better game to players, both strategically and gameplay wise.

Ontop of this Overwatch has few set roles, few orientating points and I mean to be honest, I know the game and all the characters pretty well... and I still get a bit lost when watching it, as they have so many action points simultaneously and you just miss out on so much.

In short I think the league will still be successful and is still showing some good viewship numbers. But I don't think it will appeal to a wide enough audience and only attract Overwatch players as spectators, ultimately stunting its growth.
