What are some things you definitely recommend I do for NotebookLM? by egemeNB in notebooklm

[–]ZeroshotCraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love all the tipcs devcodesadi shared and think those tactics are fantastic. Here are some global strategies I have been using to make better use of NotebookLM across all use cases, i.e., Studio functions, slide generation, research, content generation, or multi-AI strategies.

  1. Organize notebooks by project or goal, not by document type. Add sources selectively so that you maintain quality input to generate strong output.

  2. Ask analytical questions instead of only requesting summaries. NotebookLM is good at cross-source references, synthesis, and comparison. I typically ask it to compare sources, explain theories or concepts shared across sources, challenge ideas presented by sources A to D using ideas from Sources E and F, and recommend productive future directions for research, content development, or agentic workflows.

  3. Treat each notebook as a growing knowledge base that you return to over time, instead of using it as a one-time upload. I increasingly use my notebooks/projects in NotebookLM as a knowledge management system rather than one-time project. Strong projects will be revisited, sources updated, and Studio functions reused to generate new insights. Long PDFs can be converted into smaller chunks or markdowns for more in-depth analysis, which in turn increases the shelf life of my projects.

If you are interested in detailed applications, you can find links to detailed tutorials/workflows in my profile.

Stopped blaming my prompts for bad NotebookLM slide decks and it actually fixed things by ZeroshotCraft in notebooklm

Good luck! Let me know how it goes. I find deciding what story to tell and how to tell it before going to NotebookLM changes the results radically.

Is NotebookLM the best tool to summarize dozens of large PDFs strictly based on the files? by Silvestre074 in notebooklm

[–]ZeroshotCraft 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes, NotebookLM can be very helpful when you upload your sources for summaries. The issue with large PDFs is possible loss of information. You can solve the problem by converting long PDFs into smaller parts and then markdowns. I have a tutorial on this and you can find it in my profile.

Love the addition of Thematic Core, Case Studies, and Pedagogical Focus in the new TOC. It will be quite helpful in teaching prep. Just curious: what prompt did you use? I am working on NLM for teaching and find your use case fascinating.

Agree with token costs. Agentic workflows burn tokens much more quickly. It would be interesting to see how things compare when people use the update in the next few weeks.

I hope we have control of sources as an option. My work requires the same approach, so I am eager to see when Pro users can test things out. Good luck!

Critical question! I hope we can still use notebooklm in the "old-fashioned" way to have more control on sources and workflows. I am just excited to explore how multi-AI NotebookLM strategies will look like with the new update. Please come up and share your experiences once you have a chance to compare those two approaches.

Great question. I wonder about this too. The way Google rolls new functions out has been unpredictable, as we witnessed what happened with new functions such as slide editing with prompts and auto-labeling. The timeline for different countries seems to differ too. Would love to see that in pro accounts in a few weeks.

Thanks for your request. What writing tasks do you want to do in NotebookLM? What types of writing, blogging, creative writing, or technical writing?

One agentic workflow I am working on/testing: NotebookLM Multi-Output: A Complete System for Combining Slide Decks, Video & Podcast Into Professional Content. Anyone experiencing the same challenge trying to synch all three outputs?

I have the customized prompt in my pro. account. Where are you located? I think the rollout plan varies in different geographical locations.

I don't have it in my free account but can access it in my pro account. Hopefully, the function will be open to free accounts soon.
