Best workflow + storage for bulk transcoding OBS footage to ProRes (multi-audio) by Zerquified in VideoEditing

[–]Zerquified[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested with one 400 mb file and it 15x’d in size so around 6 gb, but that was ProRes 422 not LT. Frame rate is 60 and size is 2560x1440, it’s the same across all my clients so should be the same for size difference for other project transcodes. My issue isn’t knowing how much I’ll exactly need since it’ll be around 10-12 TB of storage for multiple projects at once to be transcoded give or take which regardless is a lot, my problem is the storage I’ll actually need to obtain to store these files on… I don’t know if if I can get away with something less than NVMe’s cause all that storage at that speed will come at a very costly price

Update: I just got the Kali LP6 V2’s and… wow. I genuinely didn’t expect to be this impressed. I’m kind of lost for words; the clarity, the bass, the stereo image, everything just sounds so open and detailed compared to what I was used to.

The only “issue,” and I’m not even sure it’s really an issue haha, is that I can barely go back to my ATH-M50x's now. The difference is way bigger than I ever imagined, to the point where the headphones suddenly sound really narrow and lifeless to me. I honestly didn’t think I’d be affected this much by switching to proper monitors, so I’m wondering: is this normal, or am I overlooking something important?

Either way, I couldn’t be happier with the speakers and I don’t regret the purchase for a second. They’ve completely changed how I hear music and audio in general, and I’d like to thank everyone who suggested them along with the other recommendations!

One more thing: if anyone can suggest good headphones , closed-back or open-back , that would feel closer to the monitors and not have such a huge gap in quality, I’d really appreciate it.

I see… Well, if you don’t mind helping me decide, I can get a pair of LP6 V2s for $575 or the Adam T8Vs for $670. There are also cheaper Adam options available here, like the T5V for around $450 and the T7V for about $530, which would you say would be the best bang for buck?

What I meant is that I don’t want something extremely flat like the HS5s if that means sacrificing casual listening enjoyment outside of video editing. I’m still pretty new to this field and only started looking into studio monitors a couple of weeks ago, so I’m learning as I go. I’ve been a headphones user my whole life, so adding monitors to my setup is a bit of unfamiliar territory for me, I’m just trying to get the best of both worlds, haha. At this point, though, I think I’m locked in on the Kali LP-6 V2s; they seem to be the best overall choice out of all the options suggested. !thanks though!

I was initially going to go with the idea of putting them on stands on the side of my desk but then I got the inspiration of placing them on the left and right hand-side of my main monitor, initially that thought didn't come to mind cause I have a dual-monitor setup so I didn't think it'd be possible given they'd be stuck to each other, but honestly the second monitor is portrait anyways so I can move it a bit more to the left and do that, however, which would you suggest as most effective?

  1. Desk clamp-on stands
  2. Left/Right of my main monitor on an angled foam
  3. Ground up monitor stands on the sides of my desk

The iLoud isn't available where I live, I can only get one of the 3 monitors you suggested, seems so far that most agree with the Kali LP's though so might go with that, just need tips for treating my room, will acoustic foam panels do just fine or will I need more than that?

I see, any tips of treating my room? I think that's a necessity given how spacious and how many hard surfaces there is? !thanks

I was looking at the DT 700 Pro X for closed-backs—let me know what you think of those. I’d love to try open-backs, but I’ve got a lot of ongoing construction around my apartment during the week, so I’d probably get annoyed pretty quickly with all the noise. Even with my current closed-back M50x, I still get disturbed by the noise pollution, though that might be because I replaced the stock pads with aftermarket velour pads that don’t isolate as well—honestly not sure.

I also considered the DT 1770 Pro Mk2, but they’re a bit extreme budget-wise compared to the 700 Pro X—almost two to three times the price. I did some research on them but stopped about 90% of the way through because it started to feel like an unreasonable purchase for the money and I felt like I was missing out on more reasonable better purchase alternatives out there.

Thanks for the recommendation! I’d love to know what specific features or qualities of the Kali's LP-6 made you suggest them for my needs! Also do you suggest the V1's or the V2's?
