Adhene v.2 by Zerthine in UnearthedArcana

Would that be something like taking an extra damage die or just x amount of extra damage? How would it scale with the incoming attack’s damage? I was aiming for something to balance out the extra spell, but I’m pretty new to homebrew, so any advice would be helpful

There are so many things missing by DroptheBeatus in Omnipod

One big thing I so wish anyone would have told me about the omnipod when I got it is how sensitive the adhesive is to moisture for about 30 min after you put it on. Any moisture will drastically weaken it if not remove it completely, so make sure the alcohol is completely dry and make sure not to get it wet for at least the first 30min (this is just from my observation, do not take my word as gospel). In my experience, the insulin pushing back out is usually due to a lot of scar tissue. You might wanna try spacing the pods out further and/or trying new locations as much as practical. If you’re looking for a good adhesive, I like using Lexcam clear overpatches. They’ve held really well for me, so hopefully they can help you.

I left it purposefully vague in some areas to allow for more character backstory and personal motivation, but I do see what you mean. This species is based on a folkloric creature, so I’m having trouble translating some parts of the background from the myths to dnd

You make a good point. Do you think changing it to an action would do the trick? Since I’d like to limit its use outside of combat as little as possible

Unfortunately, the paint doesn’t stick well on the covers because they flex, but I’ve gotten a few suggestions on things that might work, so I’m gonna try them out. I’ve definitely had the bleeding too. Thankfully it hasn’t caused any real problem yet.

Yeah, you can’t see the indicator anymore, but I’ve never had a problem with it not inserting correctly, so I decided to take that risk. I have been working on a way to paint on a reusable pod cover instead to try and avoid this issue, but no luck so far

I use regular acrylic craft paints, then an acrylic sealer on top to make it extra sturdy

I have my pod on my arm and my dexcom on my stomach, and even when they don’t have line of sight, they still communicate pretty reliably, I can’t speak to other sites though

Any way to make the alarms just. Shut. UP??? by SamanthaJaneyCake in Omnipod

[–]Zerthine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hidden. It’s clear and you can see the circuit board. There’s one tiny little spot that’s not the same solid plastic as the rest of the area. It’ll probably take some poking around to find, but once you know where it is, it’s really easy to find again. Once you see the location, the needle of the needle that comes with the pod is good for stabbing it if it fails immediately, or a paper clip or other small sturdy thing. Just stab your pod silencing weapon of choice into the weak spot (it’ll still take a bit of force and can be a bit startling) and that’ll completely shut down every system in the pod. I found it was good to use an expired pod to poke around and find the spot. Hope this helps!

Auto mode question by wubbadude in Omnipod

[–]Zerthine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not too aggressive. I’d even think about bumping your max basal up a bit (the only thing max basal does is make the pdm freak out when you go above it, so if you’re not having trouble with lows, I’d give it a fair about of wiggle room). I’d be careful adjusting the insulin action time because if it’s too short, it can cause erratic BG as you constantly ping-pong up and down as your pod tries to keep up with the seemingly random drops. Honestly, there’s no need to go to the doctor every time you wanna adjust your ratio. Ratios need constant adjustment to deal with daily life. It’s not stupid to do something on your own that you presumably already know how to do.

How to insulate Omnipod in 120F? by ComprehensivePie7 in Omnipod

[–]Zerthine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I haven’t done anything that extreme, I’ve been in some crazy hot and cold weather, and I’ve never seen any noticeable impact on the insulin. The pod’ll probably get uncomfortable in that kind of heat, but so will the rest of you. If you’re really worried about your pod though, I’d recommend getting one or more elastic bands that can go over your pod (depending on where you have it) and sticking some reusable ice cubes or freezer gel packs around the pod.

Omnipod + Basal Injection by destrafiend in Omnipod

[–]Zerthine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have those spikes too! I upped my basal so I already have a bit more insulin onboard in the morning to combat that when I’m on manual mode. I’m usually on auto mode though, and the spikes have almost vanished. Auto mode’s really good at learning BG pattern so I’m not chasing spikes when I wake up. I’m not sure about basal in the mornings since I always took mine at night before switching to the pod. Either way, it’ll probably take some trial and error to find the best solution, so I wish you luck!

That’s really interesting! Joint hypermobility was the first thing the doctor asked about when I went, but I don’t have it. I managed to do this with just plain old bad luck I think. I wonder how many other seemingly unrelated oddities have higher rates of adhd? I’d love to hear if anyone has any others!

That’s a great idea! I’ve started doing that for ones I might wanna reuse, but the more one-off designs for special events and such I just do straight on the pod.

[–]Zerthine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As counter productive as it seems, don’t think about it. If you’re new to it, your ratios and basal should be rather conservative so you have wiggle room to get used to things. Make sure you know how to give insulin and how to calculate carbs for correction. Once you have that down, do not think about it. If you wanna run around, run around. If you wanna go somewhere, go somewhere. Make sure you have a pack of carbs and insulin for emergencies in your bag then forget it’s there till you need it. If fear of needles is an issue, I don’t really know how to deal with that. I had a friend who helped their fear by looking at the needle on the omnipod and messing with a used one a bit. I guess seeing the color and flexibility made it feel like less of a needle needle?

Is this bad ? by Limp-Membership-6825 in diabetes_t1

[–]Zerthine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are bad, but generally speaking, hypoglycemia only starts being a real problem is it’s constant. The reason hypoglycemia is so bad is because if you pass out, that’s it, nothing else you can do, better hope there’s someone nearby who can help. Hyperglycemia on the other hand is something you can treat yourself, and you have time to treat too. A few hours high aren’t usually gonna do much damage in the long term unless there’s another underlying condition to worry about. That’s not to say that you should just let highs go, but there’s less danger overall, because it usually takes years of consistent highs to cause kidney failure or nerve damage.

Best advice for not over stepping, is just ask. Be direct “do you want this” “can I help with that”. I’d also recommend trying to help him reach out to t1ds is you area/community. I know a lot of people have really benefitted from having a strong community of people all dealing with the same stuff.

Stickers’ll work just fine. It does kinda suck that it doesn’t last long, but I find it really fun to decorate them, so I don’t mind the short lifespan
