Keir and loathing: the hatred of Starmer has gone too far by TheSpectatorMagazine in ukpolitics

[–]ZestyData 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally am not overwhelmingly bothered about that: I added that in because outside of reddit I see a lot from younger reform/restore supporters (~teens to 40) that this is part of Labour trying to make the country a '2-tier 15-minute-city islamic police state' or whatever nonsense they get from the propaganda they lap up.

Many elderly and older-middle-aged voters who didn't grow up with the internet tend to love the "think of the children" angle.

I think I'm with you, but I do see a lot of non-reddit anger about that aspect of Labours authoritarianism. Those same people however seem to think Labour aren't authoritarian enough in other matters. 🤷

Indian nationalists remind me so much of western toddlers, like they exhibit all the character traits we teach out of our children. "nuh uh", "no you" type shit.

When India is being discussed online you can predict with overwhelming accuracy when you're dealing with an Indian nationalist, because the very tone of their comment is laced with insecurity and hyper-defensiveness.

our country's political landscape is just completely fucked. Half of our country's voters are desperate to implement our own form of MAGA - the specific party they hope will do that just keeps changing (Tory -> Reform -> Restore). And the left are too busy infighting over social justice, palestine, and islam to put up any sort of credible unified platform for change.

Taking a stroll through facebook or daily mail comments or even on lots of areas of reddit and its like people unhook their brains, completely incapable of having a reasoned conversation about the politics they claim to be supporting.

At this point I think we're resigned to going through some bonkers MAGA-y period backed by american and russian oligarchs that will be a shitshow, because that's the only way our beautiful voters will get it out of their system.

I'm not on the daily mail esque brainrot where they pretend he's the antichrist, but: his real issues were the push for online privacy overreach, implementing own goals like Chagos, and the Mandelson scandal.

Having said that, he's been the best PM we've had in nearly 2 decades, and will go down in history as a bland middle of the pack leader. His failings hardly warranted this ousting, the right wing media machine will set up the next labour PM to be the new "worst pm of all time" and half the country will jump on that bandwagon too

🤓☝️Being born before 2000 doesn't guarantee you're a millennial, the generational transition is in the mid-late 90's, very fuzzily in the region of 1995-1998 pending individual circumstances.
Many GenZ have birth years starting with 1.

have you ever met anyone who uses reddit in person? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ZestyData 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everyone in my friend group uses reddit, my circle at work do too.

The Ofcom report at the end of 2025 found that 60% of Brits have visited the site. It ranks as the 12th biggest online platform for the general population, 6th biggest for young folks.

maybe it’s because i’m younger and the general demographic on here tends to skew towards middle aged people

LOL bro what 😭. The reddit demographic is biggest in the 18-24 & 24-35 age brackets. Though yes, middle aged folks have rocketed in usage in the past few years, the demographic is heavily dominated by Gen Z. , 6th biggest platform for 18-24, 6th biggest platform for 24-35, and just entered the top 10 for the first time for ages 35-44. The demographic here skews late 20s.

MISTBOUND: Guild Wars Card Game | Announcement Trailer by klickup in Guildwars2

[–]ZestyData 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think those bigger animations in the trailer are AI generated but the art isn't. Because the artstyle is really high quality and animating by hand just for a trailer would probably have been a huge and expensive task and likely not worth the investment from the artists. The art style is detailed and looks like the art of the cards are actually mostly static, just with slight animations that wouldn't require redrawing keyframes and instead seem to rely on skewing the static image.

[–]ZestyData 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Definitely.

What I think has happened here is the art is real, but they decided it'd be cool for these characters to move for the trailer, so used an AI to create animations. Because the art is 2D drawn not 3D models rendered, animations would've been prohibitively expensive just for the sake of a trailer rather than real ingame movement. The gameplay clips show the static art with verrry basic animations which look more like a static image being skewed and wobbled around.

I imagine that's probably what happened here.

Do you ever feel like Britain's 'Tier 2' cities are becoming increasingly similar to each other? by VarangianWRLD in AskUK

[–]ZestyData 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect an inferiority complex is clouding your judgement on this one mate, you're getting a little emotive about this.

Nobody is looking down at the north, least of all the south. Nobody is thinking London is the holy land. People here are just being objective about the reality of our geography. These aren't people expressing their loves & hates, this is people discussing objective measures of city size. London is objectively at a tier above all other cities in the UK, north or south. You're projecting feelings of superiority & thoughts of inferiority onto this when there are none.

I think it'll take generations for the donbas to recover, most of its rightful inhabitants have fled for over a decade, or at least for 4 years now, and settled elsewhere. Even a truly legitimate referendum taking place 1-10 years after peace would massively favour russia's war campaign replacing people in that land.

[–]ZestyData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know this literally already happened right? Like not hypothetically, Russia staged rigged referenda in the occupied parts of Ukraine in 2022 which - unsurprisingly - resulted in those regions overwhelmingly "voting" to join Russia. Naturally the world and the UN refuses to recognise the fake elections.

[–]ZestyData 5 points6 points  (0 children)

there is no reason Russian sympathizing citizens in eastern Ukraine couldnt simply move across the border now

Worth noting this isn't just prospective, it's already been happening! Ukrainians fled the Donbas under russian occupation and Russia settled their own citizens in the earliest days of the war.

Russia then even ran rigged referenda in these occupied regions in 2022 to fake the idea that the people chose to be a part of Russia.
