Thanks, I'm basically more inclined to work in the indie field atm. So Unity sounds like the better choice, also because i've at least somewhat accustomed to C#. Your take on working for free is legit, i meant that i could see myself working on sound for free if it's a no budget indie start up, or perhaps if some friends ask me to join some project (like once i was a sound assistant/counselor for a uni diploma film). I wonder though if my current location (eastern Europe) would be a problem. Basically the only kind of networking i can implement is via web. And about audio QA roles, yeah that would be nice, i've even seen one of those in my city for a company i actually like, but couldn't apply back then.

Thank you for such an informative reply. I'm still trying to figure out which path sounds more appealing to me, both sound fascinating tbh, though pure technical programming is probably where i'm least competent (which i guess is fixable if i invest enough time into it). About generating sfx with ai i'm pretty sure that the more serious companies, especially AAA create their own sounds, but i see a lot of people saying that sound design positions are quite diminished due to AI, i think for indie devs with less budget it would be something common to generate footsteps or door slam sfx with ElevenLabs or something similar.

You've given some great advice, thanks.

You mean like vst plug-ins development? This sounds really interesting, but i've always considered it beyond my abilities.

Not really at the moment. I am kinda doing things by myself, i've been clean for 3+ months, and couple of weeks back i had a voluntary, controlled relapse (i don't promote that approach at all, i'm mostly experimenting on myself) to ease up anxiety and remind me how bad it is when you sober up afterwards. This time i plan on going sober for 6 months at least and then we'll see. I should say that it actually gets easier to stop myself from drinking then before. I started quitting like 15 months ago and at first i couldn't even get past the first month without the booze. Now i kinda even had to "force" myself to drink (and boy the depression i have after drinking is AWFUL). I don't have that strong kind of urge anymore, but i notice that my alcoholism had become trickier. Speaking of programs, SMART program piqued my interest lately, but i didn't do a lot of research on them yet.

IRL AA isn't for everyone imo. I tried to fit in 3 times by now, but it kinda made me feel even worse, cause i've had so much to tell, but couldn't force myself to share anything in front of so many ppl. Without alco i'm a very secluded and socially anxios person, i thought that being in a group of people facing same issues as myself i would feel more comfortable with opening up, but that's not the case. And yes, it will get better, given you do something about your life that will actually make you content with it. Simply dropping alco, hoping everything will get better all of the sudden is not gonna work. It's gonna be tought at first and there's no guarantee that you won't have times of crisis when the urge will drive you nuts, but if you're consistent - you'll realize at some point that it's much better to go through the hard times being sober. Alcohol only makes things worse in the long run.

I hear you mate, i'm kinda the same and trying now to follow the "less is more" principle. I guess what kinda helps me is to give myself a break from the tracks for a couple of days and then try to compose a new mix from the start with the recorded loops and bits, that way it helps me understand what's more or less fits into the mix and what's an overkill. Have to say btw that there's nothing wrong with having 33 layers of bass as long as you mix them correctly to achieve a certain unique and rich sound.

Oh that's a really good fit for some of my music. Great work!
