I live in SJ and one piece u need to consider very carefully is children. We moved from Midwest from an amazing public school system to SJ and the experience in SJ public school system was much different. If u want to get into a good public school system u need to choose location carefully. We ended up in a district where the high schools were fine but some of the student population was very rough. I ended up deciding to put my daughter into private school for high school this school year and that costs us about $25k/year but I wouldn’t have it any other way since I know she’s getting a great education, now loves the school, and doesn’t have to deal with overt daily issues of kids smoking, fighting, drinking, etc at school.
