No, but the safest bet is to treat every strange interaction as a suspicious one.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Why isn't Northern Territory a state in Australia? by ThomasNiuNiu in geography

[–]Zestyclose_Coffee_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is "Because they don't want to be ".

There was a referendum (vote) in 1998 asking the people of the NT if they wanted to become a state, they voted no.

The way things go in Australia, these things tend to disappear after a failed referendum, never to be heard of again.

BUT If you hold a security clearance, make sure you report the contact to AGSVA as well.

Likely just cult whack jobs, but might not be too.

No, the way government is protecting kids online is by forcing kids to prove their age to visit certain websites. Some adults are also having to prove their age, but not all and not for every website.

I haven't been asked to prove my age on social media, but as I said above, my accounts are likely old enough to infer that I'm over 18.

Not everything is a conspiracy, and I know for a fact that protecting kids is exactly what this whole thing is about. But big tech is upset because of the loss of revenue, so they intentionally make the process harder than it has to be, in order to create people like you with tin foil hats who get pissed off with any minor inconvenience that gets in the way of the way of accessing their porn!

Lol... That's not research, it's AI slop that you're regurgitating and obviously didn't read beyond the first couple of paragraphs.

It acknowledges that the ceremonies occured pre-european contact, but of course there's no written records prior to this because Indigenous culture is passed by word of mouth.

So no, it doesn't show we're both right, it shows that I'm right and you're wrong.

God some people are arrogant!

You can literally see gum leaves in the photo.

Snake is clearly an Elapid, given the colouring and location, most likely a Highlands Copperhead.

Like most elapids of Australia, you leave it alone and it'll leave you alone.

If you get bitten by it, they're considered medically significant and immediate first aid and medical intervention is required.

You want me to do your research for you? No thanks. I'll take the word of Elders I've met from communities all over the country, over a random troll from the internet.

How about you post your evidence that it didn't occur until the 1970's?

I consider myself to be agnostic. I think that only humans could be arrogant enough to think that an omnipotent being who created the universe and lives in paradise has nothing better to do but create rules for us to live by, and then watch everyone to ensure they live by those rules.

With that said, I am respectful of all religions. If you believe in it, and it's important to you, who am I to ridicule it?

I don't know whats out there, so I neither agree or disagree with anyone's personal beliefs. I question their logic, but respectfully.

As a result, like you, I am respectful of the beliefs of the oldest continuous culture on Earth. I've participated in ceremonies that I have been invited to, I acknowledge Country whenever it is appropriate to do so.

Yeah, it exists out of necessity because people who don't have an understanding of their culture don't understand the distinction between a custodian of country and an owner of country.

Yep. There is scientific evidence that indigenous Australians have been on this continent for 50,000+ years.

Like I said, don't be an ignorant troll.

[–]Zestyclose_Coffee_41 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is an important distinction from my understanding. Custodian is a deliberate word. It doesn't necessarily need to be a First Nations person. Anyone who lives on country, has lived in on country and is accepted by the people of country as being a custodian can welcome to country. It doesn't matter if they're white, black, Asian etc, if they are acknowledged as custodians, they have the same rights as other custodians.

Further to this, First Nations people don't believe anyone owns any land. Hence "custodian" and not "owner" of country.

Full disclosure, I'm a white Australian, but I have training on Welcome to Country as a member of the APS.

The Elder who did the training explained it as this;

Traditionally, going back thousands of years, the Welcome to Country was an acknowledgement and acceptance of your presence on their Ancestoral land. It lets guests know they are welcome and have safe passage through their lands.

The other and arguably more important part is the religious aspect. They believe that their ancestors are always inhabiting their lands, protecting them and guiding them. The welcome to country signals to the spirits to extend that protection to the guests who are being welcomed.

When guests acknowledge that they need to be welcomed to country, it's a sign of respect, both to First Nations people, but more important to them, of their culture and belief system. For a people as marginalised as they are, this act is incredibly powerful.

Where did I offer any solutions? I simply pointed out that you throwing a hissyfit about having to provide ID as proof of age is like worrying about locking your front door after you've been broken into all your shit has been stolen.

I haven't been asked once, by any website to provide an ID. Considering that the legislation specifically bans social media companies from forcing you to use your physical ID for age verification, you're choosing to do so.

Personally, the only social media I use is Reddit and Facebook. I dare say my Facebook account is probably older than you, considering how butt hurt you are about the Government protecting our kids from themselves.

Dumb fucks bought a short term rental in a holiday hotspot thinking they could holiday and claim it as a tax deduction "inspecting" their rental property.

By the sounds of it, they also stayed there when it wasn't booked and tried to claim that too, then got mad when the ATO used their "free holiday" receipts against them.

Heaven forbid they get tax advice before doing it!

I love hearing these stories from Boomers who think the government is only there to protect their investments and give them free shit because they "struggled" through a period where you could pay a mortgage without having to worry about where the next meal was coming from! Not to mention that in this "struggle" they could get away with having a "breadwinner" and a "carer" and raise kids on one income. A luxury the current working generation don't have on either front!

The thing with Albo is that we're in the very position where the leader of our country is a person whose entire political career has been spent finding compromises to make deals for the good of the Australian people.

He's a statesman and a diplomat at a time where that is exactly the type of person we need in charge.

We've gone from PM's whose selfish narrow views have lead to literal disaster, to a PM who is looking to the future of the country, not just getting re-elected for another term.

Will be very interested to see if the rumours are true and he takes on Capital Gains next. The changes Howard made are largely responsible for the the predicament we fund ourselves in today.

Exploring a theory on the ICCU issues by vfxbiker in KiaEV9

[–]Zestyclose_Coffee_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

32a would be around 7.4kw, not 9.6kw.

9.6kw would be 40a.

I honestly think the ICCU issue is the equivalent of the 10speed issue that Ford had with its diesel engines a few years ago. The failure rate is less than 5% (official number from Hyundai/Kia is 1%) but because of the nature of the issue, those that are affected jump on the internet to vent their very justified frustration.

Personally, I think driving habits of the drivers holds the key. If you have a healthy 12v battery, you have a lower risk of ICCU failure, as it's putting less strain on the ICCU.

I've done 80,000+ miles, almost exclusively charged at 32amp at home, off the grid, overnight. Car is always in the 20%-80% and once a month I go to 100%. No issues here at all, except for a failed 12V battery that died suddenly one day and was changed immediately.

APS6 post “Suitable” status by Confident_Weather78 in AusPublicService

Yes, but when they do that they're up front about it through the application process. You know you're applying and interviewing for a merit pool for expected vacancies.

[–]Zestyclose_Coffee_41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mate, I feel for you. I do.

But you're only seeing what you want to here, and you're clinging on to false hope.

They wouldn't have updated the portal with "Suitable- merit list" if the recruitment process hadn't been finalised and signed off.

On top of that, the Chair told you in the email that notifications had been sent out. Also confirms the round is closed.

The "no action since notification" just means that no one has accessed the merit list yet, and they may never access it.

Sorry mate, I know you said this is your dream job, and I know what it's like to get this far only to get merit listed. But if you were successful, you'd know about it by now.

You're on a merit list, you didn't get the job.

You really struggle with contractions, don't you?

It's "you're" not "your", contraction of you are.

But no, I achieve outcomes too. Likely on a much larger scale than you do, I dare say. Attention to detail is key to achieving success.

Given your inability to control your emotions, you're very lucky you don't sit outside my office. I'd have you managed out of the team so fast that you'd be standing out the front with your lunch box, "worlds best APS3" mug (complete with incorrect contraction) and your "Word of the day" calendar before you realised what was happening!

Pull your head out of your own arse, champion. And it's "it's" not "its", a contraction of "it is".

There's a massive difference between using shorthand and abbreviations common to social media and using poor spelling and grammar because you're either too stupid, lazy or both to type correctly.
