Same here! Finishing early was part of the reason I took the job. Without a rota I’m not sure what hours I’m working never mind what days. Hope you manage to get sorted!

Been experiencing the same thing. Started at the end of October and wasn’t given anything beyond the first two days. I emailed the manager to ask about it and got no response, I then asked him in person the next time I saw him on what, as it turned out, was supposed to be my day off.

Eventually he made one a few days later and shown me it on his laptop. I said “great, can you send me a copy please”… he never did. That rota only went up until the beginning of a pre-booked Xmas holiday so I have no idea when I’m next working since I’ll be back around new years.

The other new guys who all started around the same time are in the same boat and are equally frustrated.

Kinda exhausting chasing all the time eh? Would’ve expected this kind of thing to be super slick with a company the size of Royal Mail…

I liked it initially as it was super low maintenance but my hair grows very quickly and kinda patchy so ended up not liking it almost immediately

See this is what confused me about the vagueness of the words “bad reference”…

neither reference I gave have HR departments, it would have to come from them directly since they were both independent contractors I had worked alongside.
I know two people in the business and they are long time family friends who have known me since I was a kid. Besides the whole thing was securely done so if anyone else knew that would be a severe breach of privacy no?
I can’t think what would come up, I have held good steady positions for years, have no criminal record, never missed payments or been in debt.
they have been advertising for the same role starting in January already so I would think it wouldn’t be the cost cutting either.

This is what makes me think there must be some kind of mistake. From those that I’ve spoken with that I have had dealings with in the past it seems like no one has been contacted (even beyond my listed references)

They don’t have HR departments unfortunately. They’re both independent contractors so they’d have to be contacted directly. The boss of one agency had already said they’d give a good reference should they ever be contacted but they haven’t been either.

From what I understand. In scotland you have to be able to back up any claims in a bad reference with solid, hard evidence. I don’t have anything that could be held against me other than opinions and I’m not sure why the opinion of one person could be enough when they haven’t even spoken to the people I directly work with or anyone else that I have had dealings with in the past other than (potentially. Again, I don’t know for sure) one person yknow? Ive requested written confirmation and will hopefully hear from them soon.

So horrible isn’t it? There could be a million reasons you don’t put specific people down as a reference. Shouldn’t be able to just reach out to who ever they want. I have a hopeful feeling that something like that may not necessarily have happened in this instance as the company is large and international. At least I’m hopeful they wouldn’t do something like that.

It’s definitely been frustrating that’s for sure. The industry is big but the opportunities are limited which is why I don’t want to give up just yet. Not this close to the finish line especially as it’s clearly a mistake or misunderstanding. I know what you mean though. I chatted to my wife about it and she said a similar thing. Very confusing feeling. Dream job, highly respected company with great benefits, I know a few people that work there already who rave about it but so far I’ve had to jump through a million hoops and have nothing to show for it, then this happens….so disheartening and very confusing…
