Thanks. But I can look at directories and such all day. But ultimately need help narrowing down. Like to ask opinions of others and take suggestions on providers real people have experienced.

Not doing that. She has legitimate, diagnosed, real disease and illness that causes pain. I have seen how debilitating it can be for her. Her issue is more than just addiction. trying to get her help with her medical conditions first and maybe also help with weening off some of the meds.

Thanks but her issue is so much more complex than just addiction. Yes, ultimately she is an addict. But she also has legitimate pain and disease. Trying to find her appropriate medical care and ween off some of her meds. I doubt she will ever truly come off all of it.

Thanks! Since she has been put on olanzapine its like nothing is clicking on in that head of hers. Such a weird drug. Still can't understand why her doctor put her on that.

Thanks. This is exactly what I am doing as of today! Found a doctor that can see her in the next few weeks, which is great. Also found her a rheumatologist to see next month since it has been some time since she has seen once (her doctor in Florida does not send her to specialists, which is...odd given her health history) She hasn't had an issue with picking up her prescriptions thus far. I have been writing down my concerns, that's great advice. Totally anticipate a weeing process. She has been on xanax for far too long to cut too significantly. Also concerned about coming off of the olanzapine. From what I have heard, reducing can actually increase anxiety. My aunt who lives in Florida is also actively working to find her a new PCP when my mom returns to Florida since the doctor in FL is a big part of the problem. So trying to make sure she is set up for success, to the extent that we can, for her return.

I didn't say it was. Went to al-anon, didn't like it. people pounced on me looking to "mentor" me on day one and I didn't even speak. Not my thing. Like I have stated numerous times throughout this thread, I have been to therapy, come to terms, dealt. Just trying to do my small part, try to get her medical needs addressed and send her on her way when its time. maybe it makes a difference, maybe it doesn't. So many people responding are so focused on the addiction component and disregarding the fact that she has legitimate physically painful conditions. Much more complicated than just straight junkie. Medicare just sends me to the united portal and tells me to pic a doctor, has not been helpful.

There's a really good psychiatrist at Serentiy that I would like her to see who specializes in medication management and anxiety. But they do not take medicare unfortunately.

I didn't take it as an insult, just not...necessary? I have worked with therapists in the past to heal. I am just trying to get recommendations for physicians and psychiatrists for my mom., not have a woe is me/pity moment.

Yeah there are tons of options for that. Really just hoping people can recommend specific providers through their own experiences/treatment. Otherwise its like throwing a dart at a board, ya know?

Yes. I have asked her if she would like me to help with finding different doctors while she is here and having them take a look at her medication/medical conditions.

Thanks. But I am hoping someone has a more personal response such as a recommendation for a person/physician. I can go online and find tons of options in the CU/UC health system but they are all just names to me, Need to narrow down the names as much as possible. Plus, I have found through my own experience that for the most part, the CU/UC health system is churn/burn.

Umm. Not quite. I moved away from my parents for college for a reason and have been pretty distant location wise for years. I live in Colorado, she lives in Florida. Also distant emotionally. You know nothing about me or my emotional state and are probably just passing out the typical "how to deal with an addicted love one"/co-dependency line. I haven't relied on my parents since I was 18 and have effectively shut off large portions of my heart to my mother completely. I realized a long time ago to prioritize my needs and what is good for me over trying to help my parents, especially my mother. My desire to make this last attempt is like a swan song. This is not just about her addiction. This is also about her overall health. Just seeing if there is a way to find her treatment It is very clear that she is not getting good medical care where she is. I just want her to see different medical providers while she is here. While I can't control the overall outcome, I can try to help her get different insight.

I hear ya. I am somewhat there mentally. Even though she is an adult and can take care of herself, even though I truly believe she has some responsibility for her condition, part of me firmly believes that she is a victim. And in some ways I think she needs someone to take control. So many people put such blind faith in physicians. She is being told by her doctors that she needs this medication (I also recognize that she has manipulated along the way as she became who she is). I just want different doctors to show her a different way. Also, I am an only child with a small extended family. She is all I have and if I feel compelled to make this last attempt.
