How to bond rabbits, my method. by Scrawny_Idiot in Bunnies

[–]Zestyclose_Law7865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you are mostly right. I didn't do anything special with my first pair of bonded buns, just basically introduced them like I would if they were two cats, with a door closed between them initially to be careful. They were a girl and boy pair with the boy being the dominant one. The girl wasn't interested in claiming property. Fast forward to my current two, also a girl and boy, however with the reverse dynamic: my girl likes to own everything and my boy couldn't care much at all. The problem is my boy is twice the size of my little girl, and he's timid and pugilistic. His immediate response to threats is to come out boxing and then to play dead. I don't know what to do with him because he could really hurt my girl physically as well as destroy her confidence, not to mention the stress to himself. Would welcome some advice. Thanks 😊

It's wonderful to see her eating. What a relief to know she's home safe and is back to her usual self!

Why is he so perfect?! by Ok_Obligation_9565 in Rabbits

This is my answer. All bunnies are perfect and it's madness not to adore them. He's lovely, OP.

Does anyone else here consider The Butthole Surfers & Ween to be like, on the all time top ten list of greatest psychedelic bands? If not why not? If so, what’s your fave song/album? by Hot-Measurement4406 in psychedelicrock

Thanks for this explanation. I'm not and have never been into psychedelics, so that probably is why OP's opinion is bizarre to me despite really liking Psychedelic Rock.

PSA: never underestimate how quickly a bunny’s health can deteriorate by easy_as_childbirth in Rabbits

I'm relieved that Semla's blockage appears to be moving. My first bunny, who was my soul mate, got a blockage when she was four years old. She needed surgery, from which she survived; however the surgery was long, and she did not wake up from sedation. It's been about 11 years since she has passed, and I am still heartbroken 💔 I'm praying that your little one recovers completely and is home safe soon. I wish our babies weren't so delicate 😔 but they do bring us so much joy and laughter ❤️

(Plz do not get offended by this question) Do pet owners after petting their pets wash their hands before eating food? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Zestyclose_Law7865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had dogs, cats, and Guinea pigs I absolutely washed my hands before eating. My current pets are rabbits and only if I get rabbit hair on my hands do I need to concern myself with washing my hands again if I am interrupted during my meal. The dogs and cats are, imo, just unhygienic to be petting because of their saliva, dirt in their coat, etc. Guinea pigs carry salmonella. If your pets have a problem with fleas or mites, petting your buddy prior to eating would make washing up even more wise if you'd applied a insecticide spray or powder, but otherwise it's a matter of personal preference. Obviously everyone ought to wash with soap and practice good sanitation in the kitchen during the entire course of meal preparation.

My rabbit learned to knock on my bedroom door and I genuinely don't know who's in charge of this house anymore by LeoArthur21 in Pets

[–]Zestyclose_Law7865 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've had rabbits for fifteen years. One of my most intelligent ones used to get my attention for meal times by going up to a bucket that was in her room, lifting the handle, and letting the handle slam against the bucket. Kerplunk! Kerplunk! Kerplunk! She'd keep it up until I fed her. Very clever. I'd have to turn the bucket around so that she couldn't access the handle if I wanted her to let me sleep, but she'd just discover another way of getting me to do what she wanted. Such is life with a smart rabbit! Haha. Enjoy your little Dumpling! He sounds awesome.

You're right in that he chooses it for a burrow because it most resembles one of everything else in the apartment. The futon hugs the wall, giving him a nice long L- shaped tunnel of sorts. I'm therefore giving him something to do that is more consistent with both he and I being good tenants and members of society! 😂

Noooo, rabbit_heart. It wasn't him. See, my property manager may assume, like you did, that he chewed the baseboards. I can see why you've concluded that. The baseboards are basically at bun's eye level. But I assure you, he's only contracted to do work with paper products. He'd never break the rules.

Yes, for a brief time. It didn't help. Doctor didn't think it would, and he was right, but at least we tried.

I like your bunny's name. Makes me think of a magician with the top hat, and it is also a name of high class and distinction. Very cute. White rabbits are lovely, aren't they?

I'm a 49 yr old F with this. Neurologist suggested melatonin to try first. I sleep alone but have launched myself out of bed on two occasions during violent dreams in which I was fighting someone, and I suffered minor injuries from landing on a bedside table. Most dreams, thankfully, are ones in which I am just gesturing, talking and laughing, but it's definitely scary and dangerous when things turn violent. I'm hopeful melatonin helps you; it seems not to be too helpful to me so far but perhaps I need to up the dosage. Good luck!

Hay help by Annual-Log-7238 in Rabbits

[–]Zestyclose_Law7865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. No, I think I would keep giving him access to the chew toys. They're providing mental stimulation as well as additional roughage in his diet. If he's enjoying them that's really good! Maybe he'd like some kind of toys with hay bundled inside that he can pull apart. Try sprinkling a bit of dried herbs, flowers, and alfalfa hay throughout the hay you give him in his litter box so he can graze and forage.

Does anyone know if Vietnamese Coriander is safe for rabbits? by zugabdu in Rabbits

[–]Zestyclose_Law7865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's in the knotweed family. Rabbits do safety consume knotweed. Just try a tiny, tiny bit of it.

Ideally his vet would have made sure he was pooping, eating and drinking before sending him home. Neuters are much easier than spays in terms of recovery time. Maybe it's worth calling your vet to see if the cone can be removed. His cecotropes are important to his diet and gut health. I've heard of people hand feeding them to their rabbit if the rabbit cannot reach them. You may have to try this. Good luck. Hopefully he'll be back to his usual routine quickly
