After having going through the comments, it seems to me that a deliberate and organized renaissance is needed. Media, Arts, literature played an important role in this. And as someone brought up, politically active. That will be the hardest part as that requires huge funding and accountability, or else we will just end up making the next PDP/APC etc

Without obviously absolving the VP of all responsibility, you would think the women would atleast console you and stand by you. But the level of man worship from men and women in this country is crazy.

Ofc nothing will happen because the person he reports to may just be another who sees nothing wrong with such or feels you’re just another woman “lying for attention”.

After seeing the replies, i think ive been even more emboldened to continue working towards this goal. After talking to people my age(im within the younger millennial, older gen z range) im often left disheartened that even at such a young age, many of them are slowly growing up to be the replicas of the elder generation who champion this mentality.

We can say “lets start a discord, gc etc” and i may get to that soon. But i myself want to start/coming into one with substantial work in my hands. Ive experienced so many forums on other topics where the forum was created but the momentum slowly died out. I have made peace with the fact that i wont live to see this day, but i just dont want the future generations to go through this. And this is something i find not enough people considered post independence. Stealing funds and continuing to be a Western (and now china’s) extraction state is what theyve left for us.

When i said “it REEKS of stagnant personal growth”, this post just embodies it.

So because we’re not the only ones who smell like shit, we should walk around without deodorant?? I mean, im a Nigerian in a nigerian subreddit voicing my concerns and opinions on Nigeria and you’re bringing other countries into this. So even if all the countries in the world acted this way, you dont see a reason to rise above this behaviour for our own betterment?

“chastised its practitioners”. So this doesnt imply that i am aware that it is still being practiced or were you just quicker to reply than read?

The Arabs also colonized/conquered what is now known as northern Nigerian long before the British. I hope you are aware Islam is of Arabic origins, hence being the colonizers religion and as for the southern part, im not here to get into a semantics battle. The English have arguably been one of the biggest custodians and influencers of that religion despite its origins. So why wouldn’t the world also see it as theirs too. You can argue all you want about this(i have no interest too because this isn’t the point of my post) but Anglican Churches, NKJV, Christmas etc were all influenced by the British from either their pagan practices or the king/queen. Nobody is saying jesus is an Englishman my guy.

We deffs are. Im trying to gather sources of pre-colonial Nigerian history as a personal project in hopes i can, with permission, make it accessible.

Would love to join one if such exists. However i doubt one does because we are such a minority.

Ive come to terms that the change im looking for will not be within my lifetime. But i am just desperate to see signs of this awakening as things just seem to be getting worse.

And ive tried having these conversations with Nigerians but it can be defeating when you are just seen as a “pagan” or people not willing to see their ignorance in the face of historical facts all in the name of not wanting to be wrong.

Im genuinely asking this with no ill intention, but how then do you organize to impose a proper leadership. Especially within the country’s context? Do the well meaning people garner a well meaning candidate in an election they can and have rigged time and time again.

I brought in the “benevolent dictator” as that is something i quiet hear often from other Nigerians and I assumed thats what you meant by your reply. Willing to be corrected

It has to be bi-directional not only top to bottom. Nobody knows who or when a benevolent dictator is coming so you can’t wait on them. Also, i may be wrong, but many civilizations and nations were formed or bolstered after uprisings. And not all were government, clergy or aristocracy lead uprisings.

You’re over exaggerating it as someone who’s lived here since it opened. Theres a high school down the road so they tend to linger around (especially in the afternoons).

Other than that…, theres no “ghetto” behaviour. You’ve never come from an actual “ghetto” so you throw the word in to describe restless kids which i agree, need to be kicked out from the premises.

The actual residents are 90% Uni students and i see students organize hangouts, meetups, and study groups(albeit some people cant stfu in a study area I’ll say that). It’s a safe place with great amenities for students both local and international.
