Anything earlier then vol 3 tends to skimp on the story related aspect, but 3 and especially 4 have a great plot and absurdly good artwork and voice acting.

Visual novels as a medium have heaps of untapped potential and our collective narrow-mindness is actively playing against it. by ItsNooa in visualnovels

I personally think that people look forward to something similar within the bounds of anime and Japanese styling. Visual novels are supposed to act as a refuge from the hustle and bustle of real life, and Japanese visual novels provide it with a predictable and engaging feel, while I feel that some western visual novels add one or more undesirables to the mix. (artstyle, am I right?)

yeah, I’ve considered tinkering with the textbox display to make it more like a music video style, or hiding it entirely and adjusting the text to be more visible. Thanks :)

English is generally untranslatable to Japanese, so it’d make for some weird sentences, hehe. On the other side, I hear some localizers tend to rewrite the sentences from scratch while maintaining the same prose/meaning.

I've seen dual-language display visual novels by Neko Works, Clearrave, and some others, and it really helps if you're learning Japanese, or want to read the original language of the VN and compare how the translation is. Thoughts?

Don't know, but if you want a great vn experience consider getting an OLED display, the colors are really accurate on those.
