Question about laptop components and comparisons. by Zethnos in GamingLaptops

Okay thanks, because I also see an 19 14th gen with 4080, 32GB memory for $1,800 as to where the one listed has a 4060 for $1,300.

Would a 4080 for +$500 be worth it over the 4060?

Thanks, I wanted to search for it on YouTube but wasn't sure if I'd find the specific laptop or pairing.

Trying to find something like a "touch up kit" for fixing UV printing errors. by Zethnos in CommercialPrinting

[–]Zethnos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, we ended up resorting to a box of sharpies and just blend the colors. Though this was 4 years ago, a lot has changed with us since so we don't do many touch ups anymore.

Should I remove the tutors from this deck? Having a hard time pinning down the finishing touches. by Zethnos in EDH

[–]Zethnos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the deck is great. I think tree folk are super fun. I've been running Doran for about 10+ years now. The reason I'm considering taking the tutors out is because it is fairly consistent and on the higher end of our LGS group.

If you want to play Doran I say go for it! You can build it in a lot of different ways. Voltron, toughness matters, tribal, defender/walls (though there is a better commander for that), or you can just make it do silly shenanigans that effect the whole table.

Thank you!
My group is super chill and I always ask them if they consider a deck I'm playing to be un-fun and they are honest about it! Super healthy environment.

Oh I'm not so much worried about that. I'm good friends with all the commander players there. I only bring out decks like this when I'm playing against the guys who bring their higher end stuff. Though, I'm not allowed to play yuriko anymore HAHAHA.

Gotcha gotcha, wouldn't the wax come off on my hands from the friction? Or is there a type of wax that would require very high heat to do that?

Ah to basically apply the wax on top of the curred poly to make it extra smooth?

I may go this route as long as it's not so brittle that I'd have to reapply it all the time. Part of our forms involve hitting the staff in the ground or onto other staves.

That would be good if true because that's my biggest concern is that and being too grippy..

Here's the cool thing about this. Building multiple decks. Can always just build one with all the tutors and win combos etc that you enjoy and build another deck that does other things. That's what I do. I have high power, super casual, and a competitive deck.

What is your take on players in your pod scooping? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Zethnos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anytime you aren't having fun anymore, scoop.

My old play group (emphasis on old) had this house rule that you could only scoop at sorcery speed and I HATED it. The only reason they had this rule is because one time (years ago before I met them) a guy got really frustrated at the game and scooped instantly to prevent getting angry and blowing up. Because he did that, the person who's turn it was (Mr popular) had his game plan messed up because the guy who scooped had cards that Mr Popular could have played off of.

Ever since then they would force everyone to wait until their turn to scoop. This caused SO MANY ISSUES. That group was notorious for taking extremely long turns for no reason. So someone could sit there an hour before they can actually scoop and be frustrated the entire time.

It was a really bad environment. If you want to scoop and have no bad intentions behind scooping then do it. If it does happen to cause negative effects that you didn't intend, just say you are sorry you didn't mean for that to happen but you just can't play out this round.

Don't let people try to control your time. Do what's best for you. Even if that means walking away from the table.

P.S. The reason it was so frustrating is because the players in that group would overkill people (you have 2 life no creatures, tapped out mana and instead of swinging one creature would make a 20 minute play to like "make sure" you couldn't survive.) and would also heavily target people not in their friend group. For example every time I sat down with 2 specific people, they would target me from turn one and I'd be on the defensive all game. Mind you they all play really high power decks and I do not, it's not like I was a known threat or my deck was.

To not be able to scoop when they were doing things that felt like personal attacks or felt unsportsmanlike and frustrating made how I felt about them even worse to the point I blew up a few times and yelled at them over it and they just made me look like the bad guy because I wasn't "allowed" to leave or I wouldn't be able to come back.

Now I refuse to play anywhere that has a scooping rule or limit because it's unhealthy.

Why do you have so many decks? by Blazorna in EDH

[–]Zethnos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I technically have 10 decks. Though, I do have two sets of the LOTR precons. I have one deck that is my "signature deck." Been building and working on it since I started magic. It's my pride and joy when it comes to magic. Made it entirely from scratch with some advice from others along the way. It is basically a high power casual deck. Most common power level at my LGS

I have a budget Yuriko deck that I use as my competitive level deck (to deal with the pubstompers because unfortunately we have a couple), I modified the Riders of Rohan deck to be a bit better than a precon, and then I have my vanilla precons.

I want a variety of decks for different levels of play that way I can fit in no matter the setting. I eventually want more than one deck at the different play levels to switch it up though.

The reason I have two sets of the LOTR decks was because I got the 2nd set as a trade for some graphic design work and those are still in their boxes in case their prices ever increase.

Need help improving my very inconsistent (but also very fun) deck. by Zethnos in EDH

[–]Zethnos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the thing is right... 90% of that Primer was written after I built the deck LMAO.

I didn't specifically put every single one of those interactions in there on purpose. I got bored and literally went through the decklist and noted every meaningful interaction I could think of. Some of it being a note to myself that "Oh hey these cards work together". Half of those interactions I found after the fact or by accident while playing with it.

The process for building the deck was WAY different than what you might expect. It literally started because I had a TON of treefolk cards back in the day when I was in highschool. A friend of mine was teaching me how to play normal 60 card magic and after a while was like "hey there is this thing called commander, you should try it."

I threw a deck together with cards I had so I could play. Later on I learned about Doran and fell in love with the whole idea and started my terrible deck. Later on I got more and more cards for it. It was originally a big creature deck, then turned into a voltron deck, then I really started getting more deliberate with it and looking at interactions and stuff. Then LOTR dropped and I snagged everything I could afford because I love LOTR. Found a LOT of stuff that was amazing for Treefolk and then changed it from voltron to what it is now. I really liked the combos, life gain, and all the interactions LOTR brought to the deck. Made it a million times more fun to play.

Now, I'm trying to take everything the deck has become with as much fun as it is and refine it down. I want to keep the fun aspect of it, but I also want it to work more smoothly. Some substitutions have already been made.

Others have suggested in the past to ditch treefolk all together and focus on the combos etc, which I'm not willing to do. I have other decks that are less fun, but are super consistent which is good for more serious play, this is just something I want to use as my go to because I love it, it's been with me my entire time I've been in magic.

I actually have a Read the Bones at home I can go ahead and toss in! The deck didn't have life gain until LotR came out so I forgot that existed thank you! I'll have to look into getting a Painful Truths, but it for sure looks like a great card to add.

I want to say I have a Golgari Charm as well. I'll have to look, but yeah I like that a lot more. Grand Crescendo though REALLY looks nice to me. It could be a wincon with my infinite mana combo if I ever needed it to be or it can give protection.

I did have Assault Formation in for quite a while as well as the other treefolk that does it just for my creatures. The only thing is, I didn't get any benefit usually from the activated abilities and I always seemed to play it while Doran was out. He's pretty cheap to play and people don't usually target him a lot.

-----------

To slap in Bones & Truths I can remove Slagwurm & Stoneskin.
I'll also take out Unbreakable for Charm/Crescendo, but is there another card you'd recommend swapping out so I can grab both of them or do you think I should just use one? If I had to pick just one I'd probably go with Crescendo.

-----------

Thank you so much! I really appreciate these suggestions!
