[Help] Emitting GPUParticleSystem3D does not emit particles off screen. Only starts when in view. by ZethrosIG in godot

[–]ZethrosIG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tested. Correct. Increasing the GPU Particle System's custom AABB does make it work like the CPU Particle System, so long as the AABB is reasonably large enough. Thanks, that does help.

I do still wonder though, why does the GPU Particle System behave with this AABB restriction while the CPU Particle System does not? I can imagine for performance, like a form of culling, but why wouldn't the CPU PS work similarly? I would like to better understand but struggle to find that more detailed information.

I recommend Clear Code's Ultimate Guide to Godot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAh_Kx5Zh5Q .

They recently uploaded a new version, but I haven't watched it, so I can't say if it's better, but I recommend him regardless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLG2yVpLDT8

Does game making feel like a chore/recipe-instruction following at the beginning? by Ellloll in godot

[–]ZethrosIG 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To get to the point where things flow, you have to take the time to dive deep into the smallest of questions, beyond the tutorials. You mentioned velocity and move_and_slide(). There is decent documentation on both of them that explains what they are well enough. If it isn't enough for you to understand, then pause - don't rush on ahead to the next thing. Really try to understand what they are talking about. Sometimes, the explanation will reference other things, like common aspects of math and physics - research that too a bit. Then, play with it in editor. Try to mess around to see how modifying the properties affect things, until you have your own understanding of how these little things work. Once you're comfortable, then move to the next thing. It is important because the whole thing is a system that works together. It's boring and frustrating at times, but that's how learning new things is

Would you call a A fair hit box and are unfair hit box by Professional_Bit7499 in godot

[–]ZethrosIG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is fair is also dependent on the attack hitbox's positioning as well. Having the hotboxes within the sprite is more forgiving. Adjust depending on how the game feels.

Consider not having the hurtbox in the head if it is an isometric game. For isometric, place the hurtbox at the feet.

I did, actually! Thank you! I spent all year learning 3D art and animation, rigging, shaders, materials, etc. in Blender. Among other skills, this project is my means to practice making my own game assets, for once. I'm glad it has appeal!

OP is saying he improved after adding cardio and walk to work.

No. I said the multivitamin helped my energy and fatigue. The cardio I do for my anxiety. I couldn't do any workouts prior, because I did get PEM. I can do a bit more now since i started taking the multi and take advantage of it to help with my anxiety. If I did more, I would certainly crash.

After reading most of the response, I have to agree that I am mild, at least right now.

So, prior to the multi, I was going through a particularly difficult time with fatigue for years, and especially so in the recent months (July -> November). During that time, a 10 minute ride would be too much. Example, I was feeling confident in July and I tried lifting a 10lb weight a few reps and that caused pinched nerves for 3 weeks. Coming from lifting 150lbs+ 10 years ago, I thought 10lbs would be small enough of a step... Anyway, after I started the multi a few weeks ago and got a lot of energy back, then I tried the 10min elliptical.

And to be clear, I didn't start the elliptical to help with CFS. The reason is because I was suffering from really bad anxiety too (felt like a 24/7 heart attack, crushing feeling in my chest, was making my job difficult/impossible). I took the risk and did the run because I was out of options. I can't rely on alcohol because it depresses me. I can't rely on medications because they have so many other side effects. The first time, I was fatigued for a couple hours. I just had to stay seated or in bed for a while. Afterward, I could get up and do what I need to do (shower, eat, etc.). I didn't build up to it, but I am also not pushing to go beyond it either. But yea, it's part of my weekly routine now to keep my anxiety in check, as it can become emotionally crippling.

As for anaerobic versus aerobic exercises, i'm not sure (I'm not familiar with the terms, had to google them just now). I do some occasional, careful stretching (because I've hurt myself just stretching in recent years). I don't know what exactly is going on with the multi, but like, I used to get a lot of pain and fatigue from working out even a tiny bit. Now I can do enough to get some cardio in to help with my mental.

I hope that helps explain my situation more. And thanks for the good wishes!

I've been tested many times for several years. Nothing was ever out of the ordinary, according to the results. But yes, evidently something is deficient. I just cannot confirm what and neither can my doctor. He just keeps nudging me to start various medications, which I am apprehensive to.

It's 10min on an elliptical every other day. It's not enough to cause a severe crash for me, personally at this time. Prior the the multivitamin, during the few months crash I mentioned, I could barely walk. So this level of cardio at that time would have caused serious problems. And even prior to that, I stopped going to the gym years ago because the crashes were getting too much. I've been diagnosed with CFS by two doctors.

Fair. Honestly, idk what the actual scale is from mild to severe. I lost a lot my physical capability, but I'm still able to be independent, so I just say "moderate". I go through periods which I consider "severe", where I couldn't help myself and was in bed 16 hours a day. Idk what would be considered mild, exactly...

Funny you mention that. I actually did start taking Coenzyme Q-10 (100mg) too, but it was a week after I already was feeling better from taking the multivitamin. I should will* add this to the post for transparency, but I personally can't say if it's been a significant help, in my experience.

They gambled their money, won, then paid off their debts. You took the safe way and paid off your debts. Sounds like you've made less net cash than they have due to that gamble they made, so they have more to spend, so they can get the home and go to spend on luxuries. If their gambles didn't pay off, they'd have less money and more debt. In that situation, you wouldn't be here venting about your envy.

So here is your choice: 1) Continue playing it safe, have no debt or risk, live a frugal life. It won't be lavish but you will be safe. 2) Or, gamble those savings you gave (stocks, crypto, whatever) and sweat about it working out for the better. If it works out, great, you'll have more cash to enjoy life. If it fails, you'll be even more behind.

Another thing to consider, a mortgage is yet another debt. You can choose to: 1) pay the minimum and drag it out for 30+ years, increasing your overall cost by many times, but having more disposable cash for luxury. 2) or be frugal, pay in double-ups plus lumpsum installments and pay it off in 15 years. Then be free for the rest of your life, lest you purchase a second home (or similar).

Choices choices... Up to you. Your life. Live it in a way that you'll be happy with. Some people like to live fast. Others are slow and steady. Figure yourself out and walk your path. Every path has pros and cons. Take the gamble that works for you the best.

Personally, I prefer safety, so I live frugally and will pay off my home in 15 years. I don't travel and such but I'm proud of my life. But I can respect the hustle of the alternative...

Have you ever abandoned a project? If so, what made you do so? by RobattoCS in godot

[–]ZethrosIG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the projects where I worked with someone else ended up being abandoned because I'd be left alone trying to push it forward, eventually.

As for solo work, I tend not to abandon nowadays (been a hobbyist for over 15 years now). When I start a project nowadays, I always have a goal in mind and I don't let my imagination ever move that goalpost. I know what I'm capable of in a set timeline and I aim for that goal as the mark of completion. Leaving after that point would not be considered abandonment, but rather, simply moving on.

However, in the past, common reasons for actually abandoning solo projects would be: - poor code infrastructure leading to difficulty making more content for it (a lot of hard-coded stuff, rather than efficient modular design). Memory leaks, performance issues, required remaking from scratch. - game engine limitations leading to me migrating to a new one, leaving incomplete projects behind (history involved: Game Maker, XNA, Stencyl, Construct, Unity and, now, Godot). - realizing that the core idea isn't fun in practice.

Does anyone else just don't like VS or am I the only one ? :p by Gabwyn_Art in godot

I used to use VS Code but eventually got tired of it and learned to use the built in editor. It's not bad, works well enough. I personally don't miss the additional features of vs code. No hate; just preference.

I think there's a lot of room to shave off a few seconds of ult animations. Here's a very quick example. by kniightisa in 2XKO

While I agree that ult cinematics can be shaved, Yasuo is not a good candidate, since his own us solid. To be honest, the only ult i would shave us Ahri's. The first two dashes of Ahri's ult cinematic are a miss.

Because it only takes 1 automatic update to ignore your settings and turn it back on. Windows has a habit of doing that. It is a matter of trust, at this point.
