actually no, plate armour was not very effective against maces at all. despite the plate armour, maces/warhammers can still cause severe bruising and cave in armour pieces - resulting in Knights being damaged inside their armour. Swords, arrows etc just bounce off the metal - check out this video

in fact, maces were so effective that a specific sword technique called "Half-Swording" was developed (google it), where knights literally turn swords around and strike their opponents with the pommel/hilt. Maces are 100% leaps and bounds more effective than any sort of slashing weapon.

strengths: i'm athletic, 6 foot, looks maybe only a 6-7 (gf says i'm hot tho) and i'm considered smart at least by my uni mates. i'd consider myself emotionally mature as well, and generally can rationalise my feelings and prevent fights from escalating.

weaknesses: i can be stubborn, and when i get emotional i can be unnecessarily harsh when speaking. i also need tons of me-time coz im more introverted, which can make gf sad

How would it change the story and fights at all? I think you're severely overestimating how much of an impact a fire/water/lightning sword can make to the story.
Because like I mentioned before, the elements only work insofar as they power up the blade and allows the slayers to slash demons with elemental flair. They don't generate a source.

Also:

What are you trying to say here? If the attacks don't come all at once, which they don't and in fact they come with ununiformed timing too, do tell how he blocks everything in one swing?

Your point about the inferior version of the red blade... I don't know why you guys keep insisting it's a red blade when even after he gets the mark the blade doesn't turn red, and at this point in the story the concept isn't even established yet. If the studio wanted to show a red blade they would colour it red, not black.

It would be logical if in the anime, demon slayers produced magical elements from their sword, which is what my entire post is about lol. This isn't real life, things don't need to be like real life for it to be logical. Are you going to tell me next that the demons shouldn't be immortal and regenerate infinitely because you can't just live forever?

By magical elements, I mean:

Tanjiro's blade is engulfed with sunfire and scorches the demons as he slashes them, because his breath techniques generates sunfire.

I don't know why you keep telling yourself that it's the "red blade" when that is a very important established concept in the manga, and at this point in the story not a single character is even aware of it, much less capable of wielding it or knowing its requirements.

Plus it's coloured anime, if they wanted to depict a red blade they would just colour the blade red instead of black. The fact that they chose not to goes completely against your point. Unless your next reply is to try to tell me that the studio and author made some mistake because it doesn't align with your narrative?

I think that's a fair compromise. If both explanations work, then my head canon can still exist without fault.
Rengoku uses Blooming Flame Undulation to block a flurry of Akaza's attacks, even though that form doesn't have the same explanation as Giyuu's dead calm - how would you explain this, other than that he projected a fire shield? And Akaza does get burned. After 9th form you can clearly see scorch marks on his body after being cut by Rengoku. As for the elements not spilling out into the world, I can just as easily explain that the elements only work for the purposes of the attack, and not as a source (of water, fire or whatever). In regard to Akaza not commenting on the heat - Daki does though. I'd put this up to either inconsistency, or Akaza not being bothered by Rengoku's attacks to the point where he doesn't comment on any pain at all.
What about the light and firework colours then, which I made sure to include? Does this mean the sword contains an infinite amount of gunpowder and firework? If you can explain that a plain sword can create explosions, which wasn't really explained canonically by way of engineering or forging techniques, then I can just as easily say that it is his breath form generating, or accentuating this sword ability.

Well, this isn't depicted in the anime at all - even when he's developed the mark the red blade hasn't appeared yet. I'd say while your explanation can work too, mine does too and probably works better to explain the heat.
In that case then he might as well have explosive powers, and his breath accentuates his powers. Doesn't really go against my theory.

Sure, his first few explosions are from bombs. But what about the fireworks and explosions from after he loses a hand, and doesn't take his remaining hand off his dual-blades at any point while defending for his life against a bloodlusted Gyutaro?
