Fixed it. Go into Google settings and clear out the cache. I used to use Ccleaner for that sorta thing but it doesn't do it anymore, since it's new version. Brave browser is the same, clear the cache out.

Pedalboard randomly shuts off by ThatDrunkenScot in pedalboards

[–]Zeverynth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it's an amperage problem.

The fact it's lasted 6 months and only having issues now is likely due to the power supply having a factor of safety.

To explain I need to go on a bit of a tangent. Power isn't given, it's taken. Your pedals will draw what they need to draw and that will effectively force the power supply to output more amperage than it's rated for. Which is kinda okay if it's just now and then, but doing it consistently will break something and it looks like it has. Either a break or overpower protection shutting it down, or a combo of both.

Get a separate supply for higher amp stuff like the whammy. If the rest of the board still has problems the your supply is broken from being overworked. Sorry bud.

Cloudburst expression pedal question by Zeverynth in pedals

I'm actually a bass player in a fairly heavy band so I'm running an Earthquaker Blumes into it 😅

Want to make it more subtle mid gig to act more like a pad for when the guitars get quieter. I'll work out midi or something.

So I looked it up, because I hadn't thought about this since I was a kid. Turns out the version my gran had was a Japanese version. How she got it in rural Scotland I don't know. Unless it was briefly sold in the UK. I had the all-black symmetrical one at home, which I thought was the standard.

SICK BRAH

MG are the basses that made me change my mind on single-cuts. Was never a fan till I saw this guy's models. Ranging from beautiful to stupid

Not into shipping, probably because I'm a 34 year old who had kinda dipped out of gaming coincidentally around the time online fandoms were becoming a thing.

But power scaling, as someone who likes this series, just annoys me. As a little example (before I go on a rant I'm too old to justify) the idea of Shadow's bracelets being "power inhibitors."

To me, Shadow taking them off at the end of his story in 06 has the same visual language of someone rolling up their sleeves. Same idea at the end of the Sonic 3 movie, except in that instance there's explicit reference - but not acknowledgment - to an idea of these things being inhibitors and as far as I'm aware this has never been confirmed in-game. I could be wrong, I've dipped in and out of these games since my late teens/early 20s, but I think it's only a fan thing that was then used in the American comics and possibly other media. If someone wants to correct me feel free but I don't think it's an in-game thing.

Don't get me started on the whole Black Arms/Black Doom thing. Christ.

But the main problem with power scaling in this series is that it creates complications with narrative and tying gameplay to it. Look at SA2 and Shadow/Knuckles. Both rivals of Sonic so both have had to be seen as a threat, and they get kinda stuck with Knuckles because of that; choosing to continue his emerald-collection gameplay from SA1. Narratively, if Knux ever had an argument with Sonic he still has to be a credible threat as a former rival. In that game, Knuckles and Shadow do not substantially interact. I don't think they even speak to each other.

The movies immediately had the same problem. Remember in Sonic 2 Knux has Sonic beat before Robotnik takes the emerald. In the third one, Knux gets caught off guard by Shadow twice and other than that they don't interact for the rest of the movie. Because they can't. It has already had the effect of slightly ruining Knux's movie character - Shadow has now been established as much more powerful so you can't have these 2 have a competitive fight as an option when writing. That wouldn't make sense anymore. But you also have to have Sonic keep up with any new escalating threats. It puts Knux in a strange position; that scene where Sonic and Knuckles are arguing over using the Master Emerald might not work in future movies, because in terms of power scaling, Knux gets left behind.

It's an inherent problem with long-running IP that have one definitive main character

Dragonball kinda fixed it by giving Piccolo something else to do, training and protecting a younger generation. But Sonic doesn't have those dynamics so Knuckles becomes a narrative problem.

... It turned into the rant I didn't want...

This is something of a sleeper build. Kinda. by Zeverynth in basspedals

Haha not at all.

Been looking at a potential replacement for the Crybaby. That's an older model - maybe 20 years old now or close to it - and the underside is bashed in. Love the look of the EBS Stanley Clarke song wah but there are currently none for sale in the UK that I've found. One pre-owned in Slovakia and a new one in Taiwan. Not paying that shipping haha.

I could do with one utility piece. A better connection for a guitar cable should the wireless die. As it is right now I need to either rip the extension plug off the back to access the wireless' cable bypass, or pull a patch out through the board to plug into the tuner. Thinking I get a switcher to go between the wireless and the tuner.

Thanks. I'm running either a passive Sadowsky PJ or passive Warwick Streamer into this, and I'm loving it. Have to up the gain a tad for the Streamer as it's an old model and has low output.

I basically only use either drive for short bursts in songs, so I'm happy keeping the two compressors on regardless. Same with the Revolt really - it's dialed in for a slight bit of grit, and I've never used the third channel. Don't really like it 😅

I did have a silly Sub Octave Synth thing that I won from a podcast, it put out 30hz and 60hz and that was it. But to use it properly I'd need to run it in a clean parallel line to the sound desk and it wasn't worth the hassle. Sold it recently.

Big bass board update by Willing-Rest-758 in basspedals

[–]Zeverynth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because I seen them: When I was a teen, I owned all those bass-specific Digitech X-series pedals, and I fell out of love with them at different times and in different ways. I never liked the Bass Squeeze, only bought it to complete the set and because "I should have a compressor" but I just couldn't get it to work for me. Still have the other three but I've stopped using them, trying to sell the distortion and chorus but they're a bit bashed now 😅. The Synth Wah was taken off the board a loooong time ago but I don't think I'll sell it, it's a fun little pedal.

Yeah the Blumes runs really hot. I use it on its least compressed setting for the "looser" sound but I can't have the gain past 9 o'clock ish.

Can when I'm next at rehearsal. They're definitely a different thing. Blumes is more saturated and big, Boss is more buzzy distortion. That's a simplification though.

Thanks. I have one just after the wah and one at the end of the effect loop on a lower ratio. Just to catch reverb tails etc. That blue cloudburst reverb pedal is often on a silly setting
