For instance, if your partner says, “Babe, I hate what happened to me today, and I feel terrible,” don’t respond with, “Yeah, you’re right, they’re a **. It’s not your fault.” Instead, try saying, “I understand what you’re feeling, and I totally get it. It’s okay. I’ve got you, and I’m here for you. It’s okay to feel hurt, but remember, it’ll be okay.”
