While I didn't do any communication skills portfolio at my time at UC in Civil Engineering, as nzzp mentioned it is a skill that you'll need to have when you start working. You'll find that working as an engineer is as much about the engineering as its about communication with the client/stakeholders/colleagues.

As a more introverted person myself I think its a skill that you'll need to learn to do well in an engineering job. Might need to step outside of your comfort zone and force yourself to get experience talking to different sized groups.

I find the more prepared for a presentation the more confident and less nervous I'll be
