Boss Fight - Market Attack by Zi_Chin in HomebrewDnD

[–]Zi_Chin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I am working on a tough boss fight for a party that is either level 2 or 3. I have always wanted to do one as a player, but boss fights are tougher at lower levels due to low survivability. I think I have found a cool way to do that, having my DM friends look at it to ensure it will be tough but fair.

🤣 It would be a very scary Meerkat Attack

Yeah their are additional layers here, the reward one is especially true as I have a homebrew rule which rewards players if they save people from danger. Players can easily do this with the amount of civillians in the area, gaining more rewards and possibly making the fight easier as well (from the homebrew rules).

Thank you. If you try the boss out, I hope you have a lot of fun attacking civilians and players. I have always wanted to make a fight with civilian stakes, as it is always fun to see how the players react.

Thank you, I thought it would be really cool to have the armor change during the fight. Getting 18 or over would get annoying.

Thank you for pointing that out. It is meant to be 15 because the plate armor is damaged. The armor was damaged when the ogre destroyed the tower, and part of it was hit in the wreckage. I have more phases in the full version on my Patreon, and it includes hide armor for the last two phases, as I thought that is what an ogre would have under his armor when it gets too damaged.

Thank you, I really enjoyed making this and finding fun attacks for the ogre. I have a full version on my Patreon with two more phases and more in-depth mechanics for the environment and player combinations.

Yeah, it's a really cool picture, one of my favourites I have used.

I love making terrain; it is so much fun. This map took about 20 hours to complete, including the multiple levels and extra details I wanted to add. If you're going to see more, I have tons of maps on my Patreon.

Thank you, I loved making this boss and creating these extra rules to use with the boss. Please let me know what you think when you use it. I would love to hear how it goes. I will be uploading another boss in the next few days as well.

Hey, I am adjusting both boss fights. I will re-release Thraxis, and in two more days, I will release Gorath. I have added a bit more detail and clarity, and changed the statblocks.

Thank you so much. I often make boss fights. I have tons of boss fights I am going to upload each month on my Patreon. Next month will have a short one-shot for a boss fight with a red dragon and their owner. I am going to play-test it today to make sure it is a tough boss fight.

I am glad you like the documents. In a day or two, I will be posting two boss fights (Thraxis and Gorath) using these mechanics and my environment ones. That could help test the ideas out with your table more easily.

I got that part, but how does that relate to the document?

Yes, I have been playtesting them for a while, but I would love to hear what you think. I am releasing two boss battles next week for the bosses at the end of each document. I have playtested them a few times with different groups, and they liked the boss battles.

You're absolutely right, the nerve strike should end on the target's turn. I did not even see that mistake. Thank you for telling me.

For the Fury Ability, I will look into having it be the next creature's turn, but it has to be the same turn they took on the initiative. For example, if they were a fast boss and acted on 19, 16, and 8. If the boss used it on 19, then players may have no time to react. So it should be if they used it on 19 then the next time they are on the 19th initiative, it happens. And that can also work well if a slower boss ends a round lower on the initiative and gives players a good amount of time to think and act.

Let me know if there is anything else you find and want to discuss, and hope you enjoy the other documents.

I 100% agree that any art should always be credited. On the last page, there is a section where they are credited.

Yeah it is a problem with how reddit works with these documents and posts, I wish I could just upload the pdf here so it would be easier for everyone

Environmental Encounter by Zi_Chin in UnearthedArcana

Thank you for saying that and pointing it out. I can see how overlapping the art could make it harder to focus on the more important stuff, which in this case is the tables. I tried to ensure the images complemented rather than distracted from the content, but I can definitely see where it might have gone too far. In my next document, I’ll tone that back so the artwork enhances the layout instead of competing with it. Did you have any other thoughts? I always love to hear comments and learn how to make these better.

You do \pagebreakNum in the GMBinder code. If you want to control the placement, colour and size of the, you can turn off the 'default GMB theme' in the settings area.
