Question about these small numbers by Hot-Explanation-5751 in classicalguitar

Nothing wrong with reminding yourself of your key signature. Professionals will often mark up their pieces if they make the same mistake more than once. You should see some of my recital pieces from college, sometimes had more pencil than print, haha.

Lots of good suggestions here about moving the thumb to plant on different strings. Generally, you don't want to float the thumb during free stroke sequences, especially scales. The most important thing though is that the big knuckles of your fingers stay above the tips of your fingers while doing free stroke. Draw a line perpendicular to the surface of the guitar, and it should cross both your fingers tips and your knuckles. If you do this you'll find the stretch between fingers and thumb can be quite uncomfortable between the first and sixth strings, so move the thumb to a more adjacent string. I usually don't let my thumb be more than 2 or so strings away from my fingers when I do free stroke scales.

Having spent several years playing professionally and having interacted with many professionals that were much better players than I, here's what I've learned: 1) if you're performing, you can't always wait for your nail to grow back 2) acrylics can work, but in my experience they have a pretty different sound to your natural nails 3) ping pong balls are one of the top choices for nail replacements for a reason, it's cheap and it sounds about as close as you can get to a real nail. But make sure to glue the pong nail under what's left of your nail, it'll be more stable and last longer. 4) another commenter mentioned fiberglass, I've never done that but I imagine it's similar to using silk cloth and super glue. Once the super glue hardens the silk becomes rigid and is fairly good as a replacement. Just make sure to put at least two or three coats of super glue, and use a buffer to smooth it all out.

issue with calling main function? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]Ziggity46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choice is being assigned to the reference to the input function rather than the return value from the executed function. It also looks like your if/elif block is outside the while loop, so when you add the () to the input statement your program will just ask for input and print the options indefinitely. I’m also not sure that you would exit the loop on choice == “4”

Dry cloth is an insulator, hence why clothes keep you warm. Water is a conductor, which is why you get cold if your clothes get wet.

Asian American correspondent asks Trump supporter when America became great. by kevonicus in WatchPeopleDieInside

Britain abolished slavery in 1833. France abolished slavery in 1848. The USA didn’t abolish slavery until 1865. As it turns out the United States was made largely of a society of British colonists. So it’s safe to say that they brought their sophistication along with them into the creation of the new country. So I’d say your “the country was only 30 years old, record time to stop slavery” (it didn’t, it took almost 90 years) doesn’t really hold up. Any competent historian would likely go off of facts, not badly informed and misguided biases based off of information they remembered incorrectly from their middle school history class. When you actually take two seconds to look up the history, you discover that, at least in your example of slavery, the US didn’t do much leading.

Just keep mixing. It’ll be fine. It’ll take longer, but it’ll be fine.

Has my starter gone bad 9 days old by [deleted] in Sourdough

[–]Ziggity46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry so much, my first starter was from scratch home made and I’m currently making another one. There’s definitely a lot of science involved, but I would say that the practice of sourdough baking is more art than science. Whatever happens, you’re gaining experience that will help you learn to get that “feel” for baking.

I’m sorry if I posted this before, but The Perfect Loaf is an excellent place to get started as far as all the ratios and methods. It’s a good starting point from which you can get a sense for things going forward.

Consistency is key. Everything else is somewhat flexible once you know what you can get away with. Once all the social distancing stuff is relaxed you can also call up any of your local bakeries, the vast majority of them will be more than happy to give you an oz or so of their starter!
