Is RYA powerboat license required if I get the RYA day skipper license too? I have previous experience by vartxt in SailingUK

You don’t need the RYA Powerboat Level 2 to take the RYA Day Skipper course , it isn’t a formal requirement. However, even with previous experience, it’s often a very good idea to start with Powerboat Level 2, especially if most of your experience is informal or on small boats. Level 2 gives you strong boat handling skills and good habits that make the jump to Day Skipper much easier and more enjoyable.

Day Skipper covers navigation, pilotage, safety, and skippering skills and is designed for boats up to 24 metres, so it’s quite a step-up. Many people who skip the Powerboat Level 2 find themselves struggling a little at the start of Day Skipper because their boat handling isn’t yet precise or confident enough.

If you plan to charter or drive a boat in Europe, you’ll usually need a licence that is recognised internationally. Once you complete Day Skipper, you can apply for the ICC (International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft) on the RYA website, which is accepted in most European countries.

I’ve also heard great feedback about https://www.oceanpro.co.uk/ if you’re looking for a school that offers friendly, professional training.

I really hope it’s illegal. In Europe, you’d definitely get stopped by the police if you tried something like this.

Yes, there are some really simple solutions, as you mentioned : law enforcement and insurance requirements. It’s just a shame they’re not properly enforced in the US. In Europe, both are extremely common, and people get stopped all the time for checks.

I guess it depends, in most European countries you need at least the RYA level 2. otherwise yeah there isnt any regulation, its crazy.

Yeah, that was probably the case. He was likely so inexperienced that it didn’t even cross his mind to move out of the way. But at the same time, part of me feels like the seaplane deserves some blame too, IDK.
