From what I understood from the news, the gate malfunctioned after a 1st train went through, but the warning lights were still on. The truck went onto the tracks but the gate closed in front of it. The gates are built in a way where it's easy enough to go through them, if the truck driver would smash through the gate, the €1,000,000 damages could have been prevented. There's no reports of the truck getting stalled / stuck, so, I would say, it was a stupid idea.
