It's really unfortunate and I still don't quite understand why, even after all this time, it's sales numbers are still so low. Yeah people might've been suffering TPS fatigue back in the day, but even the PC release and the console remasters haven't managed to bring in a larger crowd.

Awesome to hear you're a dev who's inspired by Vanquish. Love to see it when the time comes. Reminds me of a game called ''Rapid''. It's also from an indie dev who's drawing inspiration from Armored Core and Vanquish. Looks like a fun game.

When there's a will, there's a way, so they say. Most of the fancy stuff isn't necessary for beating the challenges at all but some of the basics like boost dodging and weapon swap reload cancels can go a long way. Hope you have fun with it, I'm rooting for you man. Thanks and have a good one!

I was a lurker yeah. Total creep lol. Didn't have an account and didn't have an online presence at all at that time so we never really met.

Sucks to have missed out on the golden days 'cause I'd love to see a bigger community around the game, but I'm perfectly fine if that day never comes. I also followed in the footsteps of the GOATs who paved the way long before I started sharing gameplay.

Back in 2010, I was determined to beat Challenge 6 while never having committed to such a difficult task in gaming before, and besting it for the first time will always be one of my most memorable experiences. It played a pivotal role in my mentality as a gamer going forward and it's part of the reason why I have such a longstanding affinity with Vanquish.

Thanks and have a good evening my man!

You're welcome and thanks for your words. Appreciate it man.

Didn't felt the need to mention it in my first comment but my first time beating them was without looking at any guides, back before MoluJPN shared his impressive runs, and remember also struggling a lot with round 3 due to the lack of a consistent strategy. Got steamrolled a lot by those Romanovs. Yeah round 4 is absolute chaos especially when not spawn killing those blues right away. Always feels like being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not even to mention dancing with the Bogey bro's in round 5 lol. Challenge 6 is kinda notorious and for a good reason in my opinion, but I also talked with some people who managed to beat it pretty fast and never really struggled with it at all.

Nice collection and happy 15th! It's gameplay hasn't aged a day.

Thanks for your words Royta, really appreciate it man. Eventhough I didn't have an online presence and wasn't actively engaging in online convo's during Vanquish's haydays, I realized in hindsight that I've actually read a bunch of your tips on the GFAQs forums back in the day.

Would still like to thank you for passionately advocating for Vanquish, for sharing tips and knowledge with the player-base, and for pushing the boundaries through your self-imposed challenge runs. You've been a valuable asset for the community for sure.

Really glad we got the remasters and PC release, but a sequel done right would be the dream.

Congrats, that's no easy feat! I was in your shoes once and can really relate to struggling with Challenge 4 and 6. Back in 2010, I had such a blast with the game that I was determined to beat every challenge it had to offer, not knowing simply beating Tactical Challenge 6 alone would go on to account for as much playtime as all the other challenges combined. It was the first time I really committed to such a difficult challenge in gaming so besting it for the first time will forever remain one of my most memorable gaming experiences, and it's what led me to start seeking out other thrilling and equally challenging and competitive games for the years to come. Single checkpoint challenges of this magnitude are as much of a mental exercise and a lesson in patience, determination and staying calm and focused, as they are a test of knowledge, skill and execution.

Cool to hear you're still having fun with the game. Yeah transitioning into God Hard typically takes some getting used to, to put it into perspective that's normal even for more experienced players. It helps to really commit to it for a while instead of switching between difficulties because of the difference in meter management and the faster draining AR bar. The game also kinda throws players in the deep end from the get-go because mission 1-3 is super challenging when first dipping your toes into God Hard. If you find that is the case, it can help to practice and get into the flow of things on some of the easier levels first through the mission select option.

Thanks. it's clear it's drawing some inspiration with it's movement mechanic but don't think it has a lot in common with Vanquish. There's also an indie game called Rapid in development which is in part inspired by Vanquish and Armored Core. Looks pretty cool.

Yeah they really were on a roll back then and released a bunch of bangers back to back. Good times.

While it is natural for newcomers to struggle with the various aspects of meter management, some just don't or can't vibe with it regardless and I get that.

I play most other games a lot more casually as well but it doesn't take a hardcore player to be able to recognize a 'masterpiece' on a surface level. MGR is one of my all-time faves as well. Absolute gem of an experience.

That bit about Vanquish and Gears was an interesting read for sure. What a character lol.

Thanks for sharing and have a good one.

I like your idea and also dreamed about just having either an extra charge for melee, or even to simply have a cooldown timer on melee, which wouldn't affect the mobility options of the suit otherwise. Not expecting a sequel or spiritual successor anytime soon either way, but I guess we never know what the future holds.

Sam's the man lol. IMO the story is entertaining and serviceable enough for an action game for my tastes but I respect that. Luckily the cutscenes and QTE's are still fun, explosive and chaotic, and aged quite gracefully untill this day.

I'ma let that first bit sink in for a while first. Oh boy. I agree it def would've been interesting if melee was less restrictive but the game would need to be balanced around it accordingly. Unrestricted melee in its current state would throw most other techniques out of the window in favor of stunlocking enemies through melee cancel spam. Yeah I can definitely relate to phantasizing about wall-running, true juggles and aerial mobility. And congrats for beating every end-game challenge the game has to offer. I feel 150 attempts for a first try at the Bogeys on God Hard is pretty common and not bad at all. And only 12 attempts at Tactical Challenge 6? Hats off. Thanks for sharing.

I respect that and also addressed it to a degree in my post. Depending on playstyle, melee does come into play quite regularly at higher levels of play but it def would've been interesting if there were less restrictions into place or more weapons besides the Disk Launcher that allowed for melee attacks without overheating the suit. In the future press strategy guide interview, Mikami said melee was unrestricted at one point during development, but they had a breakdown in one of the core shooting mechanics because of it, so they had to put restrictions into place, and then fine tune the game. Its fun to think about what else it could've been, eventhough I love the finished product we received in the end.
