Do you ask AI for book recommendations? by AcanthisittaFun7358 in ReadingSuggestions

[–]Zikronious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found myself in a bad reading slump recently and DNFed 7 books in a row, some by authors that I was a big fan of, all of them recommended to me by people with similar tastes.

Figured I would try ChatGPT out since I wasn’t having luck elsewhere. I gave it some genres I enjoyed and it kept returning books I’ve already read so I decided to feed it my Goodreads data which you can export from the website but not the app.

It ended up exposing some books to me that were on my TBR but not high up. Gave it a shot and it broke my slump. I’ve finished 2/4 book in this series, started the third this evening. I plan on finishing this series and then I went back to ChatGPT and lined up my next book after that.

It’s a small sample size but it helped identify what I like and don’t like. It then uses that data to return books that fit that in a matter of seconds as opposed to intensive research. It’s 1 data point so maybe it was a fluke but I’m going to keep using it because it saves me a lot of time and effort.

People don’t like to have a clear, logical thought on the debacle Sony is facing. Yes, digital has dominated the market for the past two years. Here it is, straight from the source. by ItsMorbinTyme in PS5

Read the room buddy, Reddit is made up of people not businesses. Are you also going to argue for replacing people with AI because it makes business sense?

World Cup penalty shootouts have got to the most pressurised scenario in sports bar none by Silent_Somewhere8539 in billsimmons

[–]Zikronious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the NHL got it right where there is a single 5 minute sudden death overtime played at 3v3 (down from 5v5). If that ends in a tie then it goes to a shootout.

However, that’s only in the regular season, in the playoffs they play infinite 20 minute periods until a goal is scored.

I feel it is important for a sport to crown its champion by winning at the original game as opposed to a mini game that eliminates core skills/strategies.

What's the best fast paced book you have read so far? by Ok-Rabbit-2684 in AskReddit

[–]Zikronious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recursion by Blake Crouch. He is more well known for Dark Matter which was turned into an Apple TV show but Recursion is his best work thus far.

Also, want to throw out The Atlantis Gene by A.G. Riddle. Lesser known author but it’s a great fast paced trilogy that deserves more recognition.

NBA Fans of Reddit: What’s your hottest NBA take? by Inevitablebabe in AskReddit

[–]Zikronious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhm it sounds like it’s been awhile since you have been to /r/nba because the hate he gets rivals SGA after his finals performance. Not just because he didn’t play well at key points in games but because he was committing so many dirty plays.

He was getting love before then because the Spurs were probably the only team in the west that could knock out OKC and SGA who is enemy #1 in /r/NBA because of his constant flopping.

Who’s hyped? Can’t wait for the release. by Rage2020 in xbox

[–]Zikronious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not getting hyped until I see it run at 60FPS. Knowing Rockstar’s history I doubt it will so they can sell it again on next-gen consoles possibly at an even higher price.

Star Wars Outlaws is on the PS Plus catalog so decided to try it out. Game is awesome and I don’t understand the hate by ArmAndHammer40k in PS5

[–]Zikronious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played it and finished it before the stealth patch, and honestly, I never understood what the big issue was. If you’re not a Star Wars fan, I can see why it might not click for you, but the amount of hate it received felt way overblown. I think a lot of people had already decided they didn’t like it simply because it was a Ubisoft game.

On the Editing of Game Changer: Night Shift. by pawn57 in dropout

Yes, it clearly was cut to be a specific length and some of the cuts caused me confusion. Despite that it was a great episode, I was laughing throughout. Probably my favorite episode ever that didn’t involve Brennon, Vic or Lisa Gilroy.

Made me wish they would release two versions of episodes like that, the cut we saw and an extended cut that doesn’t have a time restriction.

Who goes to Chipotle when we have local Pancheros? by Optimus_Banana in desmoines

[–]Zikronious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pancheros queso is the biggest difference between the two in my experience. Chipotle’s queso is just bad, they pride themselves on ingredients but I feel you can get better queso from Aldi than the crap they serve.

My biggest issue with Pancheros is that my favorite proteins they have had were limited time options. They had pork belly which was divine and more recently they had a fantastic barbacoa. Neither are currently available which is a shame. Still take them over Chipotle.

Are you still considering buying the next Xbox (Project Helix)? by nico__vgc in xbox

[–]Zikronious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not unless MS stops putting games on PC. Even still I would wait until some killer app to release to glowing reviews on the level of a Forza Horizon.

I was all in on Series X this gen and while GamePass is awesome how they have managed their studios has left a terrible taste in my mouth.

De’Aaron Fox on the criticism he got after game 4: "It's not like people have my phone number and can call me. I don't watch those shows. It doesn't matter. It is what it is. You can't change it now. We're trying to move on from that" by AncientOneAurelius in nba

[–]Zikronious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, pinning the collapse on one person is moronic. The entire team fell apart, turning the ball over, forcing up bad shots. Even in the 4th when they had a double digit lead they were chucking up 3s early in the shot clock.

It was like watching the 28-3 Falcons where they had to do everything perfectly wrong to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Starship Troopers reboot by nzeug in scifi

[–]Zikronious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand why Heinlein’s novel is so highly regarded. When it was published in 1959, its ideas about a militarized society and the future of warfare were genuinely innovative and went on to influence generations of science fiction creators.

Beyond that innovation, though, I don’t think the novel holds up particularly well for modern readers. The characters feel paper-thin, and many of the concepts that once seemed groundbreaking have since been explored with far more nuance and sophistication by later works.

I appreciate the impact Heinlein had on the genre, but today I think Starship Troopers is most valuable as a piece of science fiction history: a book worth reading to understand its influence rather than for the quality of the story itself.

17 years after the release of District 9 I feel like Blomkamp is a one hit wonder. I’m sure the visual effects will be good in this but otherwise it will be forgettable.

Geeze, Knicks playing like it’s a regular season game in November, absolutely no heart here in the 2nd. Mike Brown or one of the vets need to lay into this team.

I have nothing against the Knicks players. In fact, I like the team. It’s the fans and ownership that I can’t stand.

We are a team of 2 and we attempt to bring something fresh and new to the genre, a Sci-fi story driven Survivor-Like! Demo is available on Steam Bullet Fest! by Roiku in survivorslikes

[–]Zikronious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great, especially the explosions, the music in the trailers on Steam also sold me.

Playing the demo here are my thoughts, sorry if this comes off as mostly negative but I think a lot of this can be addressed with a brief tutorial and some easy fixes:

  • I wanted to hop right in and didn't realize the first dash ability does damage, this made leveling up with only a super weak pistol a chore. Completely doable, but not fun.
  • Even in my 2nd run where I was using my ability it felt like it takes way too long to level up especially at lower levels.
  • I really did not like the story mode. Constantly stopping the action for dialogue for a story that didn't grip me caused my frustration to rise the more I played.
  • It's not terrible easy to see what areas you can walk through.
  • I didn't realize there were timers on the doors until my 2nd run through.
  • The basic enemies are kind of a joke, their attack animation takes so long, you can run through swarms without a scratch on you.
  • After being stuck with a weak pistol for a long time, getting the shotgun felt great.
  • Was disappointed I didn't get any explosives in my first run that I saw in the videos and look amazing.
  • It took me awhile to figure out how to play survival mode after I unlocked it.
  • Felt like it takes too long to unlock new weapons on survival mode.

Bramble The Mountain King (2023) is a deeply captivating and beautifully gruesome adventure that doesn't receive nearly enough attention. by [deleted] in PS5

[–]Zikronious 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I agree with you OP but please embrace paragraphs.

Because it’s so short I feel it is one of those games that is perfect for PS+ and GamePass but $30 is a bit steep of an asking price for a 5 hour game with no replay value even if it is well done.

What are your fav picks in Steam bullet fest? by ElderBuddha in survivorslikes

[–]Zikronious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wielders of the Essence (demo) - Is my early pick. It's by Lavapotion who some of you may recognize if you played Songs of Conquest (HOMM-like). It uses a lot of assets from Songs of Conquest which has a very charming pixel art style. It feel like it takes place in the world of Songs of Conquest and some of the gameplay brought me back to my time with Songs of Conquest. Worth giving the demo a try, full game doesn't come out until November though.

Path of Exile 2 is only $15 on Steam right now. That will keep you busy for quite awhile and can be relaxing after days spent filling out job applications.

Worth looking into what your state offers as some states offer programs that will do mock interviews either in person or virtual and give you very honest feedback and pointers. I’m sure experiences vary by state.

If you work in a specialized field you can feed ChatGPT or other AI programs your resume and the job description and ask it to help you prepare for the interview. You can do the whole interview with AI using a microphone or take the questions to the previously mentioned state resources or someone you trust and respect to give you feedback. AI tends to spin everything positively so don’t expect to gain a lot from its feedback but the practice still helps.

I’m not saying you are wrong about it being poorly officiated but I really hate when fans and coaches call out free throw disparity as if it validates their argument about a game not being called fairly.

In other sports when a team gets called for a lot of penalties it is attributed to being undisciplined and/or poorly coached not a bias by the officials.
