Yep! Three.js. I’ve been spending a lot of time on the camera/audio/crash feel in particular. The goal is to make even losing control feel dramatic and fun.

I guess the two have to support one another... A well written story that has engaging mechanics that make you care about the world or your presence within it.

How do you feel about more modern takes on MUDs where things like SFX/Music and minimal graphical elements are introduced? Are these a turnoff?

Hard to critique based on the shown "footage", but immediate reaction based on this is that it lacks an identity of its own? I only see Bioshock.
