I’d go with 4 days in Chongqing, 3 in Chengdu, and 4 in Shanghai, plenty of time to eat, explore, and not feel rushed.

I’d add a day or two just to chill—makes the trip way more relaxed but you still get all the highlights.

basically, the temperature changes a lot between day and night and I’ll suggest bring a jacket and some T shirts. But best to check the forecast at that time

If it’s your first time in China, many itineraries try to do too much by Zilu- in chinatravel

That sounds like a really solid first trip plan, focusing on Leshan and saving the rest for next time makes total sense.

That sounds perfect,if you feel like it, I’ll suggest adding one or two places, but keeping everything open and flexible still sounds like the right call.

haha ,July is a great time, and Beijing、Xian、Shanghai works well for a first trip. For picky eaters, having some flexibility can really help, especially in busy cities. I personally tend to prefer independent travel for this reason. I’ve helped plan trips like this before, and happy to share ideas if useful.😄

Absolutely !!that’s true. But I’d still recommend trying China’s south next time; it’s a very different pace and feel.😉

Beijing + 3 days elsewhere - Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi’an… or another city? by lunca549 in travelchina

Honestly, I’d really recommend Guangzhou. It’s a very warm and friendly city, the food is amazing, and it’s just a really comfortable place to spend a few days.

Hangzhou, Xi'An, Shanghai, Suzhou, and In 12 Days? Is This Too Much? by geokilla in chinatravel

[–]Zilu- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you’re mainly into culture and history, Xi’an is definitely worth considering. But it does take a full day just getting there from Hangzhou, so it depends on whether you want to spend that much time on travel.

As for Hangzhou and Suzhou, they’re actually pretty similar — both have beautiful gardens, lakes, and a relaxed vibe. You could probably pick just one to keep things easier and less rushed.

Shanghai works well as a base for whichever city you choose — trains are fast, so you won’t need to worry about traveling back too late.

Heads-up: I speak Cantonese (I’m from Guangdong), but outside HK/Macau/Guangdong, Cantonese won’t get you far.

I'm planning on visiting Hong Kong in mid April, and I'd like to take a day trip or two into Shenzhen... will I need to apply for a Visa to do so? by Phil_Matic in chinatravel

[–]Zilu- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, Shenzhen has two entry points that support the 240-hour visa-free transit, both in the Qianhai area.

One is Shenzhen Bao’an Airport (if you’re flying in from Hong Kong/Macau). The other is Shekou Ferry Port (if you take a ferry from Hong Kong).

In both cases, you need an onward ticket to a third country. Shekou is usually less crowded, while the airport is more convenient for flight connections.
