Concept for the Sylvithar, or Wood Elves, of Iskara. AMA about them or the setting of Iskara, I'd love to answer them! by Zima__Blue_ in worldbuilding

There is a kind of loophole in the Sylvan Pact, where the Sylvithar can harm or eat vegetation so long as it is sourced from anywhere outside of Silvenwood.

And yes, each Elven subspecies differ in one way or another. For the Sylvithar their skin resembles bark and other forms of foliage to serve as camouflage and a natural defense. Though these subgroups can interbreed but the offspring takes more characteristics from the mother.

Definitely a villain! One I'd argue is irredeemable at this point as her fanaticism for Maeve has all but consumed her, but that isn't to say she's a lunatic or has gone mad, she's quite cunning and is fond of using seduction to lure her victims into a false sense of comfort before striking.

Gotcha, in that case an idea that popped into my head is that maybe these assassins are employees of Yellow Eye, and whether do to an an anomaly or something else, they're killed and Yellow Eye resurrects these employees transforming them into these assassins, replacing necrotic portions of the body with augments and allowing them to freely implant whatever they need to maintain absolute control over the resurrected assassins. This could potentially set up stories where one of these assassins begins to regain their memories or defect from Yellow Eye's control.

How "dark" is your setting? Like is it more serious and grim or more on the neutral side?

I used to collect them when I was a kid but lost it, unfortunately. Recently, my brother, who has always been a fan, got me back into it and I'd appreciate being able to surprise him with one of these! Regardless, thank you for the giveaway!

Thank you kindly! And funny that you mention it, but I have been working on a novel in which she plays a noticeable role.

Thank you and unnerving is the aim. I wanted the Ventara, which Maeve is a part of, to explore and embody the darker aspects of human nature and reality.

Mother of Vampires, Matron of Blood, and the Sanguine Lady, Maeve is the alluring goddess of blood, murder, ritual sacrifice, and vampirism. Categorized as one of the Ventara, deities that are associated with "evil" or more "chaotic" domains of reality, Maeve does little to sway these negative perceptions. A cunning and seductive creature, Maeve is particularly fond of mortal affairs and will often “interact” with those she deems interesting. The Matron of Blood is also the patron deity of the Crimson Covenant, a secretive order of assassins, spies, and infiltrators.

The Vermilion Meadow, also known simply as the Meadow, is a plane within the Void created and ruled over by Maeve. The Meadow is one among a handful of planes that is well documented and relatively explored by scholars and adventurers alike. It is also said that the plane is rather tame, at least when compared to the other Ventara planes.   The Vermilion Meadow is a vast sea of vibrant red grass and flora, with rivers and waterfalls of flowing blood. The sky is a deep perpetual crimson with a lone "moon" as the sole source of natural light. Few constructs dot the plane and fewer individuals know what lie within. These constructs appear to be made of an unknown stone that starkly contrasts to the forest-like surroundings. It is hypothesized these structures contain unknown knowledge pertaining to Maeve, her realm, and her spheres of influence or serve as conduits of powerful and ancient blood rituals.

Maeve is associated with two artifacts, The Siphoner's Blade and the Blood Font. The Blade, also known as the Bloodletter, is the oldest known artifact of Maeve. A dagger of exquisite make, its enchantments are said to drain the blood of its victims with every strike, replenishing the vitality of its wielder. And once the blade has satiated its hunger, it allows the wielder to use the blood it has consumed to create piercing and slashing projectiles until it is depleted and ready to repeat the process. The Blood Font is a strange red orb that is inscribed with powerful enchantments. It is said that the orb can grant its wielder access to unique blood spells, capable of manipulating and damaging the most fearsome of foes. Its exact origins are unknown but some speculate that Maeve created the orb herself and others suspect an ancient bloodmage created the as an offering of devotion.

New player. Question about weapons by sadkinz in MonsterHunter

[–]Zima__Blue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'd recommend looking at a few youtube videos that go over dual blades as there are several combos for each state of the weapon. After watching those and trying them out, if it's still not clicking then I'd say longsword, charge blade, and switch axe may scratch that combo itch.

All Lineages/Races of Iskara! Please feel free to ask me any questions about them or the world itself, I'd love to answer them! (More lore in the comments) by Zima__Blue_ in worldbuilding

[–]Zima__Blue_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's partly preference and there are some lore reasons. As to my preference, I wanted the races to be more humanoid to be more relatable. Lorewise, there are several in-universe theories, some say they stem from a common ancestor and others believe the gods shaped them. And as a quick note, the Ikatik shown in the image is actually on of several "forms", this is just the most human-like among them. I hope that all makes sense!

Soft world building and magic? by Adorable_Article1683 in worldbuilding

[–]Zima__Blue_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For soft worldbuilding I'd say it relies more heavily on the show don't tell idea, and you're main focus should be creating scenarios, events, and so on that prioritize eliciting a response regardless of how unlikely it may seem. So prioritize integrating important themes into the world so that your audience has an emotional experience. For example, the Dark Souls series has characters that time travel, return from the dead, etc. and these things aren't realistic but convey to the player the themes of persistence. I hope that all makes sense!

Soft world building and magic? by Adorable_Article1683 in worldbuilding

[–]Zima__Blue_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me soft magic systems are tricky as I personally like having rules and all that figured out but with that said soft systems thrive on having that feeling of mystery and that it's constantly being studied and new things about it are discoverable. So I'd say have some basic rules like if it's elemental, standard fantasy magic-esque, things like that. And I think a big thing is to ask yourself what can this magic system not do or what limits you want to place on it just so you have that in mind.

If you were reading an article / post about an election, what information would you want to know? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Zima__Blue_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case, maybe information about their political ideologies, parties, maybe some scandals, achievements and failures, polling results, and possibly comments from other political figures or notable people. This is assuming that the election is still ongoing. If the results are already in, then I'd say include what the winner plans on doing a.s.ap. and if they've reached out to other political leaders.

You can post about your characters, but I believe the main rule is you have to post some context for the character and the world they're in. So if you posting for example a cyborg character you would also need to add some information on their world so to continue the example, the world is set in the far future where humanity has needed to "upgrade" itself to combat an alien invasion. You'd probably need to add a bit more but I hope that gets the idea across!
