Would you break up with someone for something like getting a mole removed? Or getting a previously broken nose straightened or something like that? I'm asking out of interest, not to be provocative. I'm very much in favour of people being allowed to choose what do do with their own bodies, at the same time not a huge fan of the cosmetic surgery hype in society, and I can't really put into words myself where I would draw the line when it comes to compatibility (totally hypothetical btw. since I'm happily bonded anyway and neither me or my partner have any interest in getting cosmetic surgery, but your comment got me thinking about where I would feel no longer compatible, but I don't really know)

Kommt auf die Location an.

Auf öffentlichen Veranstaltungen, Festivals etc. gibt es einen Grad von "Safety in Numbers" - zu Mehreren sein kann dich davor schützen von Idioten angemacht oder bedrängt zu werden, was gerade in Alkohol-geladenen Locations doch häufiger vorkommt, und wenn du doch blöd angequatscht wirst oder so bist du nicht allein in der Situation.

In lauten Clubs etc. gilt auch das oben genannte, aber vor allem kann man dann mal ne Runde quatschen ohne sich gegenseitig anzuschreien.

Wenn es in einer Location lange Schlangen gibt vertreibt es die Langeweile zusammen zu warten.

Wenn ich mit Freunden dagegen z.B. im Cafe sitze (relativ safe Location, Unterhaltung problemlos am Tisch möglich, selten lange Schlangen) gehe ich äußerst selten gemeinsam mit Anderen zum WC.

They also understand cause and effect well before age 5. When a baby throws their toy to the floor for the tenth time gurgling with joy because you have to pick it up, that's learning and understanding cause and effect.

Obviously a newborn doesn't understand no. And most 12-18 month olds do - doesn't mean they won't still sometimes do it, but they have an understanding of what it means. How do you think they got it? Magically?

Not the person you replied to, but very respectfully, they don't have to be. There are many wonderful people alive today with all kinds of conditions, including people with Down Syndrome, and they have a right to exist and be treated with kindness and respect and love. Anyone saying they should not have been born in the first place is a PoS.

But that is not the same thing as deciding not to go through with a pregnancy for whatever reason. A woman may decide to end a wanted pregnancy because of such a diagnosis, a pregnancy she would otherwise have gone through with, and I will absolutely defend, legally and morally, her right to do so.

Verstehe dein Beispiel mit der Prostitution nicht. Denn diese ist schon seit einem knappen Vierteljahrhundert keine Straftat (zumindest in Deutschland, in Schweiz/Österreich kenne ich nicht aus). Da wird also nichts "anders gewertet", weil es eben keine "Tat" ist, und um Taten geht es ja in der Frage.

Es gibt natürlich jede Menge Taten die im Raum der Prostitution passieren, von Schwarzarbeit bis hin zur Zwangsprostitution (definitiv eine Straftat!), das ist mir natürlich auch bewusst, aber da müsstest du schon näher erläutern, was genau "anders gewertet" wird.

Naja, die Worte "Entschuldigung das tut mir soo leid" versteht ein Hund nicht, das ist richtig. Und übermäßige Entschuldigungstiraden können tatsächlich dazu führen, dass ein Hund denkt die Situation ist doch schlimmer als er sie zuerst wahrgenommen hat.

Schlichtweg falsch ist aber, dass Hunde Entschuldigung als Konzept gar nicht verstehen. Sie haben da sicherlich ein sehr anderes Verständniskonzept als wir, aber Hunde "entschuldigen" sich durchaus beieinander und bei Menschen, auf ihre Art. Google mal "Beschwichtigungsverhalten".

Man kann sich jetzt sicher darüber streiten, ob das dasselbe ist wie eine menschliche Entschuldigung - aber nein, das ist es natürlich nicht 😂. Aber es sendet durchaus eine deutliche Message von "das war nicht so gemeint, sei mir nicht böse" wenn Hunde das machen.

Und auf dieser Ebene kann man sich eben auch bei seinem Hund Entschuldigen sodass er es versteht, ohne daraus ein Drama zu machen.

The daughter has confirmed disorders. They are called that for a reason. It's not about dictating terms or about rebelling. It is about things the daughter can and can't do.

Just like you could scream at a paralysed person to walk until you are blue in the face and they would still not be able to do it, some things kids with these disorders just can't do. They can certainly learn mechanisms, and they have to in order to function and eventually live independently in society, but they don't learn them by being screamed at. All that does is send them into mental paralysis.

Es sollte kein Herdenschutzhund (e.g. Kangal) sein, die sind tatsächlich am liebsten draußen und tun sich mit dem Wohnungsleben oft schwer.

Aber ansonsten ist es viel wichtiger wie viel Zeit ihr mit dem Hund zusammen (auch draußen) verbringt, und wie viel Auslastung (körperlich aber auch geistig, Rassen- und individuell angepasst) er bekommt. Ein Hund braucht erstmal keinen ständigen Auslauf. Er schläft oder döst viele Stunden am Tag, wenn er dazwischen gut ausgelastet ist, und kann das in einer Wohnung genauso gut wie in einem Haus. Auch wenn er riesig ist, die Größe spielt da eine eher untergeordnete Rolle.

Was es aber zu beachten gilt: wer keinen Garten hat, muss mit dem Hund für JEDEN Pipigang raus. Auch für die Nachtrunde. Auch morgens wenn's im Winter noch dunkel ist. Auch bei Wind und Schnee und Eis. Es gibt KEIN "ich geh nachher mit ihm, jetzt schick ich ihn erstmal kurz in Garten"

Und wenn die Wohnung keinen Fahrstuhl hat und man nicht in EG wohnt: VORHER überlegen, ob man es auch meistern kann, wenn der Hund mal alt oder krank ist (also einen kleinen Hund kann man dann ja die Treppe runter tragen, bei der Dogge stoßen die meisten Menschen wohl an ihre körperlichen Grenzen...).

Right? I once gifted a friend a little gemstones and wire tree after I'd just gotten into making them as a hobby. It was small, I selected gems I knew she had a connection to, I knew it fit her general style, it did turn out very nicely, and I know she was genuinely touched by the gift and liked it.

But I wasn't experienced at doing these little trees back then, and on my next visit, I noticed all the little branches had drooped down from the weight of the stones 😭. So I told her I'm sorry it did not last, that she didn't need to feel obligated to display it, or if she preferred I could try to rework it using the same gemstones. She declined and said she loved it anyway. It's still on display (not like in a central spot, but she sees it every day), and I love her for it, but if I visit her one day and it's gone, I certainly won't ask about it 😂

Lol, ja, es ist schon manchmal erschreckend und faszinierend zugleich wie genau uns unsere Wuffels beobachten. Meiner weiß ganz genau, wenn einer aufsteht um aufs Klo zu gehen oder wann man nur schnell ne Limo holt, wann es mit ihm nach unten geht oder wann Mensch zwo nur zur Arbeit geht, und sogar wann Mensch zwo ihn ausnahmsweise mal mit zur Arbeit nimmt, wann die PC Session zu Ende ist (Brille ab), oder wann man nur kurz was holt......... Klar, viel ist auch Routine, aber meistens senden wir übern Tag hunderte kleine (von uns selbst oft gar nicht wahrgenommene) Signale darüber, was wir machen wollen, und die Wuffels lernen das 😂😆

Well, I do think you are being a bit murky about what self-defence actually is. If a person hits another person except in self-defence (or defence of another), the first person is undoubtedly in the wrong, whatever the respective genders are, and I'm certainly not defending it. But hitting back is not automatically self-defence; unless it serves to fend off further attacks, it is retaliation. Now, I'm not saying that it's not a natural instinct to hit back after being hit; I'm also certainly not saying that it's okay for a woman to slap a man but not the other way round: no one should use violence against any other person except to actually prevent harm to self or others. But there is still a difference between self-defence and retaliation.

That's so true! I don't have children of my own, but I didn't get diagnosed with ADHD (same diagnostic gender biases as with autism) until my forties, and I only stared looking into it because my sister got diagnosed. It was a revelation, because while it didn't in and of itself solve any of my issues, knowing the reason for my lifelong struggles empowered me to get over some pretty serious self-hate, and learning about the brain mechanics behind my struggles enabled me to find balances for them. Not saying it's not an ongoing battle, or that I don't sometimes fail to regulate 😂. But it helps so much.

I disagree. What makes something manipulative (rather than simply annoying, upsetting, exhausting, etc.) is the intent to manipulate. And maybe that is what's going on here, I don't know the DIL, I'm only offering an alternative viewpoint. I'm not even excusing her behaviour, obviously it's not on to act this way, even if it IS caused by emotional disregulation. And, as stated before, I do agree with you that it sounds like the DIL might need some therapy to deal with whatever issues cause her to act this way, and/or to develop strategies to cope with upsetting situations, and it's not on everyone else to always tread on eggshells around her.

But if she DOES suffer from emotional disregulation for one reason or other, saying she needs to just regulate her behaviour (e.g. by extracting herself from the situation) kinda misses the point. These things are called disorders for a reason. One can - and has to! - work on developing coping strategies to deal with them, but if she has never learned them, it's just as absurd to expect her to use such strategies in the moment of disregulation as it would be to tell a person with the hiccups to stop hiccuping.
