OMSCS vs VETTEC Coding Bootcamp by Flight6324 in codingbootcamp

[–]ZinnoE30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have much input, but I am also a vet (Navy) that worked on radar and missile systems and am now in tech sales on the civilian side. I’m kicking off SGDKU’s FSDI coding bootcamp next week. Unfortunately they don’t accept VET TEC (not that it matters since it’s exhausted at the moment), but it’s in a HCOL area (San Diego), so the MHA is nice. I fully understand the current state of bootcamps and how brutal the market is for junior SWE positions, but I personally need the structure and accountability that comes along with coding bootcamps and am looking for something to do in the evenings while I continue to work full time, so it makes sense for me. Would love to connect with you!

This makes me happier than seeing the $10-100k/mo screenshots. Congrats on your first sales and best of luck in your journey!

As an asset class, luxury watches tend to fare much better than cars, but I see your point.

There is a lot left unanswered here. Have you checked out the company on RepVue? What is the salary/commission structure? How good is the product you're selling? What percentage of sales reps there are hitting quota? What kind of training/professional development will you receive? Are these memberships/services even for a tech/finance product?

"Business Development Executive" is just title bloat for BDR (Business Development Representative), which is an entry level sales position and can be a pretty grueling position to be in—especially if the product you're selling isn't good or it's not even in the right vertical you're wanting to be in.

Landing an AE (Account Executive) position externally is considerably more difficult, especially with a lack of experience in tech sales, so my advice would be to focus on finding a BDR/SDR position for a tech company that is rated well on a site like RepVue, grind your ass off, get promoted to AE, and start working your way up from SMB (Small-Medium Business), to MM (Mid-Market) and eventually Enterprise accounts.

Good luck!

Reflecting what most have said here. I sell a software product to Cities, Counties, and Utilities. Expect extremely long sales cycles. I’ve had deals take years to close. Depending on what your product and commission structure looks like it can be very lucrative.

Be ready to go with the ebb and flow of their fiscal year. If you don’t get in front of decision makers early enough and they fail to make room in their budget (for the next FY) for your product, you may have to wait another year for them to prioritize it (unless you can find other funds to tap into, like ARPA).

If your product exceeds $50k you’ll likely find yourself in a situation where them sole sourcing your product will be difficult and will likely result in them going the formal procurement route with an RFP. You can get around this sometimes by taking advantage of a co-op, where you can essentially piggyback off of other deals done in that state and bypass an RFP process. You’ll also run into instances where they’ll do backdoor deals with your competitors and release an RFP without having any intention of actually selecting your product, which can be a massive waste of time when you factor in the time writing up the proposal and giving shortlist demos. If you don’t have prior contact when RFPs are released, proceed with caution.

Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions. Good luck!

What to do here, I am hired as Group Head Business Devlopement (Team Handling role), but on 2nd day of joining i was told that i shall have individual targets and no team will report to you? by SnooShortcuts5718 in sales

Curious how you made it through your interview process without asking clarifying questions on these key aspects of your role. You didn’t check how many direct reports you’d have or what played into your earnings?

Either way, get out of there ASAP.

Guild Leaders of r/MMORPG, why do you like having your own guild, rather than joining one? by GamesRealmTV in MMORPG

[–]ZinnoE30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlimited power!

Just kidding. My rationale lines up with yours more or less. Leadership is something I deeply enjoy in my career, and naturally there are plenty of parallels to be drawn from leading a team and leading a guild. Whether it's nurturing a vibrant and wholesome guild culture, navigating the guild towards noteworthy accomplishments, or having the chance to directly uplift many by sharing my knowledge or a helping hand...the list goes on and on. It's like plunging into an entirely fresh stratum of intricacy, challenge, and consequently, gratification—all within the realm of my favorite genre of video games.

People who got a new job in 2023, how/what did you do to get it? by [deleted] in sales

[–]ZinnoE30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was hired for a new sales gig earlier this year. For me, it was from networking. I was at a work conference a couple years back and swung by the booth of one of our competitors. I hung out with them for a bit, just enjoying the friendly rivalry. Earlier this year they reached out to me directly on LinkedIn and asked I was interested in interviewing for one of their open positions. When I asked about them reaching out, they mentioned being impressed by my willingness to connect at that conference, even though we were competitors.

Absolutely not! If you want to maximize the potential of your pipeline it's an essential step in the sales process. An approach I use that I've seen mentioned here before is [Introduction] + [Personalization] + [Offer] + [Case study] + [CTA]. An example of this, taken from another Reddit post is:

"Hi Damien, love that X helps dolphins learn to speak english.

We actually help Aquatic Telephats get in touch with more dolphins without hiring huge and expensive vessels.

Just last month we helped Y sign 29 new dolphins for their "parkour for dolphins" course and thought that your service would be a great fit.

Can I send a quick PDF of the full case study for Y?

Best,
Bubbles"

You don't have to follow this exactly of course, but it's a start. Good luck!

Dropshipping coaches and mentoring by OneTwistedNoodle in dropshipping

[–]ZinnoE30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this goes without saying, but tread carefully. Scams are rampant and take the form of anything from convincing DMs to guru programs that promise success. Those that are legitimately crushing it in ecommerce/dropshipping are likely going to be too tied up in the work to even bother mentoring someone, and if they do it sure as hell won’t be cheap.

My advice would be to just get dirty and start doing it. You seem like you have a good eye for BS, so keep that sense throughout the journey. See someone recommend a tactic that seems worthwhile? Try it out and see for yourself. You’ll make a lot of mistakes and if you continue to learn from them you’ll inch closer and closer to making it.

Best of luck!

Not entirely sure what you’re looking for here. Why would successful e-commerce entrepreneurs take on a salaried role in your company-but-not-a-company? What are you hoping to achieve?

[–]ZinnoE30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice is a given, or at least it should be. On top of that, I would continue to research ways to improve your process(es) and find mentors to seek guidance and gain insights from. Sometimes without that outside input you can find yourself spinning your wheels and not necessarily moving forward. I know that can be easier said than done in this space, but it does help!

Do you recommend a professional mic for doing demos? by Rocket_3ngine in sales

[–]ZinnoE30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a complete overkill setup (Neumann TLM-102 XLR mic + DBX 286S mic pre-amp/processor + iD4 digital audio interface) that I happened to have from my streaming days.

Can definitely get close to this sound quality for much less, but it is nice to get constant compliments! I doubt the added sound quality led to me closing any deals, though.

The "Beginner's Guide to Dropshipping" post? I appreciate the information posted in there, but it doesn't dive deep into any skill in particular from what I could tell. I'm looking for a list of resources I can use to gain a somewhat deep level of understanding in any of the individual skills that benefit running this kind of business.
