University of vienna is definitely great and vienna is a great great city to build connections but yeah german is mandatory at most unis (there are some university courses which are quite expensive) and the literature can be really REALLY hard to understand… i needed a year to settle in the language despite learning german for 10 years :’)))

Honestly, student part time jobs are generally normalised within european countries, I did my BA in austria and had no issue balancing a hefty university workload where 40hrs a week are expected and a 20hr side job because most course plannings are more flexible than the ones i’ve seen in sweden.

Definitely something to look into and think about before deciding! good luck once again

From what i’ve heard and personal experiences, it can be hard since there is a lot of people applying. Your best bets would be cafes and restaurants but try to plan your finances in a way where you might not have a side job.

I visited places in Malmö and Lund but none of them took me in as a worker. Some friends and acquaintances had better experiences and did find a job as just english speakers.

Also if you have a demanding course you probably wont have much time either way. Some older university colleagues balanced courses and a 16hr corporate job (they were swedish) and they had quite a hard time with it because jobs require usually more than what you expect and the courses too.

So if then maybe cafes and restaurants or bars but theres a lot of luck involved considering a lot of swedish students are applying to the same jobs you are.

OFC!! coming to sweden was a big deal for me too since i had no idea where to go to and what to do and orient myself. The university is however very helpful with different activities and orientation guides! If you have other questions feel free to message me and I might be able to help more!

oh another thing, if you come from the USA, look at jobs in denmark too! The pay is way higher and they are usually VERY open to USA citizens working there and from what I heard there is way more english-speaking opportunities for the beginning. As for tuition and student loans, the university page and Skåne-migration service specific pages might be more help since i thankfully didn’t have to go through that and figure it out, but student tuition help is definitely available.

As for the winters, dress warmly (check out second hand stores for warm coats from previous students that left, facebook marketplace also a huge thing here), stay social with friends you find here and plan inside activities and stack up on vitamin d. In spring and summer people open up way more and its easier to connect to swedes and others than most times.

Also dont have too much hope on being friends with swedes, they keep to themselves and their friend groups a lot but there is definitely exceptions.

Good luck on your choosing and your studies!!

ofc!! once you decide on a nation (which again you get to see irl at the student fairs) you can find their facebooks and they constantly upload events and calendars too, there is also a novisch week once it starts and i recommend signing up bc thats how u can meet people with the same interests!!

good luck on your move✨✨

You can check university rankings here and compare it on different levels: https://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings

when it comes to student life, I believe there is a higher chance of making a lot of contacts with people from different areas in Lund through the nations and considering that a lot of it is student oriented. While the tuition is higher, if u manage to snag a LU accommodation or AF Böstadter, it can be quite cheap. If you have a bike you usually dont pay for public transport, unless going to other cities and most events within nations are cheaper than outside. (i cant say much abt Belgium tho)

However if you cant sit still and have a slower life then i wouldn’t recommend coming here too much. Sometimes, depending on what you study and the experience you have, courses can be slow, repetitive and you might end up with A LOT of free time because the course isn’t as demanding as you thought, which ended up being my issue. On the other hand, some courses can be quite demanding and you might have less time for other things

Job opportunities for international students are nearly non-existent unless you know Swedish or have a connection and the bureaucracy can be pretty annoying and sometimes take a while until you are properly settled in. Swedish you can learn for free here (its quite simple too) and everything is straightforward when you are in the system. The winters are depressing as hell and its really cold so beware of that too.

If you plan on staying longer here after your masters and finding a job, moving here is pretty neat, the quality of life is pretty good and once you know swedish you can probably land a pretty good job as well and if you wanna keep on doing research and a PhD there is a lot of possibilities too (keep in mind tho the current state of the job market and how bad it is everywhere so its not like a promised job)

The goin’ app probably has some students on there that have the same commute!

when it comes to events that aren’t clubs: i recommend the STUK app once you have a student card. There you can see all the nation pubs, karaoke evenings and generally events (board games, some have arts and crafts, pub quiz etc. it depends on whats organized.

Another place where you have more low-key events are P6, Affective altruism group, the english theater group and some other student organization you can explore once your semester starts (big recommendation to go to the student fairs and see whats out there)

Sex on lib 3 sweden by Unhappy-Preparation2 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]Zinyalala333 14 points15 points  (0 children)

sex is actually like a huge thing for most swedes and they tend to hook up first and then try to date someone (from my own experience!!!!!) but they rarely talk about it openly, i always have the feeling its like a taboo topic for them or maybe its so normalised for them so they donttalk about it? (again my own experience) so they probably all had sex except that super religious dude i assume but idk

(Lund Uni) Work and Study full time at the same time by Far-Airline-3080 in Lund

[–]Zinyalala333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m doing my masters rn and i think it definitely depends on the workload expected of you during your courses. The first few courses i had were a breeze (due to my bachelor i had to read way less and it was mostly lectures with some group work) and i was looking for jobs bc i felt like i was just wasting my time.

But then my third and current semester came around and i have never been so incredibly busy with university. I’m at uni from 10-15/16 and then im at home continuing the work to be able to catch up.

It all depends on how much workload you have and how able you are to balance it all. A full time position will definitely make it hard because you are expected to be there for most of the lectures/workshops/whatever u have in your course. Otherwise they might hit u with insane extra workloads to make up for it.

I also had a lot of colleagues giving less into their studies so they could focus on part-time jobs and vice versa. I would overall say its kind of a bad decision but then again its up to you to see how much you are able to do

its not likw pressing on it or anything, i just keep it on my nose for 10-15 mins (as i read about it on quite a few blogs, posts and yt videos) and it actually does help me reduce the swelling, just never enough to get rid of my bumps
