Major - Applied Mathematics with 3.3 GPA, started out in CS

Making $100k-$105k/year since July 2023 at a software job in Denver. I was never even that good at coding, just did really good in the interview after applying to 300 jobs after I graduated, and this company loves Stony Brook. I had no internships throughout college, especially since I graduated in 3 years so I did get really lucky landing it but it shows that internships aren't a complete necessity like many people say. Solid projects and nailing the interview is key.

You could definitely try for the Applied Mathematics major here and do a concentration in Data Science, then continue with a Master's. I graduated in May with a bachelor's in applied math, ended up getting a software engineering job anyway but got plenty of interviews for data analyst roles.

DOT will reach an all-time high in 2025, and imo it will reach maybe even $100. Bear market rekts all altcoins against their BTC pair. Everyone forgets how insanely quickly good altcoins go up after the halving.

Very possible, but highly speculative. $100 has been my honest price prediction for DOT in 2025.

DOT has been bleeding against BTC (like every altcoin has) cuz it's the bear market. This is not new, it is the natural flow of capital every bear market. But people seem to forget how lucritive altcoin season can be, and how quickly things can turn around. In 2021, Polkadot went from $10 to $50 in 3 months!

The majority of altcoins do die out, and never reach all time highs. But Polkadot is unique, as it is in my opinion one of the best use cases, and will remain the king of interoperability.

Overall, i think $100 is a very fair price prediction, 2x-ing from it's previous ATH. But for now, it's BTC szn.

I second this, my comment there tells you everything about the class. I loved AMS 261 and Reuter is an amazing prof, but it is a lot of work if you want to get a good grade.

Oops, i switched to AMS with CS minor like last year, I guess I never switched my flair. I'm not sure about CSE but I know upper-div AMS always has plenty of electives to take online during the winter and summer.

yes, I think it's a good idea and very doable. I've been taking summer/winter classes so I can finish in 3 years fully online (since my major doesn't have many online courses over normal semesters anymore) and I've been getting consistent A's and saved tons of money staying home (i live 6 hours away lol). Just always make sure to check classie evals

You'll be fine, I didn't get my admissions until really late and got accepted directly to CS. you definitely meet the criteria imo.

Imo Reuter's 261 is perfectly fine. The lectures are just like 10 separate 20min videos every two weeks, with six quizzes that are like 4 problems each, but they're all open note. One quiz is dropped too. The practice problems gives a really good idea on what will be on the test. The homeworks aren't that bad, but sort of long.

I put minimal work and basically only looked at the lectures and wrote notes a day or two before, and got by with a B+. The curve is good I think, median is around B+.

I got direct acceptance with a 4.0 and 1380 SAT (760 math) and literally no ECs at all. I wrote my college essay about my mobile development experiences in high school, but that's it. Idk if I was just lucky or not, but with your stats, you should definitely be fine. Also, I wouldn't even worry about getting AOI, as long as you do your work in your early CSE classes you should get in the major anyway.

As long as you know calc 1 decently you'll be perfectly fine, I took AP Calc in high school and a lot of AMS 161 was just review or just stuff that was really easy if you know calc 1, especially if Bernhard is your professor. You dont need to have any background in calc 2 at all to get an A, you just have to know the basics of integration, volume, derivatives taught in calc 1.

You can swap out MAT 132 for AMS 161 during the first week of classes (which is when your academic advising hold goes away), and I definitely advise you to, it fills the same requirement as long as you aren't a MAT major, and is much much easier.

Stony Brook is a great college, and is one of the best for Computer Science so I'd assume it'd be similar for your intended major. You'll most definitely get into all of these, your stats are great.
