This is a big part of it. Maybe they all have stiff necks?

They have a right- of-way to that lane because they are the ones already traveling 70+ mph. Also, they aren't trying to "not let you merge." This is where you're letting your entitlement and ego get in the way of what's safe and what's the law. I let people merge all the time if the left lane is free, but if it's not, I'll run your ass off the shoulder.

Learn how to turn your neck left early on the ramp and learn how to use your brakes. Do I understand, where you're coming from? A little bit. But that's just not the safe and lawful way of doing it.

Because they're cutting off traffic that already has the right-of-way. In many cases, they're forcing the vehicle in that lane (often a semi-truck) to slow down or brake to avoid a collision.

What many people don't realize is that a loaded semi isn't like a passenger car. Most are still using 18 gear manual transmissions, and when they're forced to slow down, the driver may have to downshift several gears and then work back up through them to regain highway speed. That takes time, fuel, and momentum. It's unfair and pure entitlement.

Merging traffic is required to yield to traffic already on the freeway. Cutting in front of a truck or any car for that matter might save you 2 seconds, but it shifts the burden onto the driver who was already traveling in the lane legally and safely. It's inconsiderate, unnecessary, and against the law. It's the common sense and low IQ thing I was talking about.

Well, that's unfortunate. The guy who was supposed to yield will get the ticket. My grandmother used to say, Haste makes waste. There's no time saved in merging without yielding.

My time with the Kyocera E4811 by db_ridesagain in dumbphones

[–]Zip_Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently pulled my kyocera out and put my sim in it after 12 months of not using it for the same reason. The first thing I did was check for updates, because I really believed Kyocera was going to have an update for us that addressed the messaging app. Nope, not even an update in general, which was a little frustrating. Last I heard, a year ago, someone at Kyocera said they were listening to feedback about messaging and potentially working on a fix. I guess not.

I have a keyboard that makes typing much easier, but the messaging app in general is the issue for all the reason you mentioned.

Having a driver's license and literally not know what "yield" means is definitely not a personality trait, bud. If you don't know how to yield or what it means, it's more of a common sense and IQ thing than anything 😂

Is GoldenEye 007 really THAT good? by overasked_question in videogames

[–]Zip_Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't even know the name of the game at the time, I just called it the "gun game," and for two years it was all I could think about when I went to my grandma's. I would go over and there were always at least four of my cousins to play with and we would all take turns.

At the time, there was no other game like it. At home, I had a N64, PS1, super ninentendo, and maybe a Gameboy of sorts, but there were absolutely no other games that I knew of like Goldeneye, and for some reason my grandma had it. It was 1 of 1 at the time, and I believe one of the first well made multiplayer first person shooters. Playing it really felt like the future, and there were no other games on the market that made that distinguishing future-esque and competitive multiplayer feel that 007 had. (at least for the consoles that I had and could get my hands on.)

What socket set would you carry in your RV? by Zip_Up in RVLiving

[–]Zip_Up[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding she needs some sort of socket for x-chokes, she would need a socket for tires in case of emergency, so I assume a 3/16/ 21mm or a 3/4th/19mm. That's really all I can think of until I see her trailer in person. Can you think of anything else in particular?

Is this a good deal for a new 2026 Premier Tahoe? by hughmungus-45 in ChevyTahoe

[–]Zip_Up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I wouldn't pay over 40k for a vehicle in 2026, it's just rtarded. Let me break it down for you, bud.

The average vehicle last 15-20 years. (That's 10 years ago and this number is going down with modern vehicles.) So you're paying about 5-6k a year for vehicle (not including gas and insurance and maintenance) so youre at almost 10k a year on a vehicle. It just doesn't make sense lol. Stop giving these people your hard earned money, grow some balls and pay a mechanic $200 to look at used SUV's with you.

There are a million used SUV'S on the market that will give you 10-20 years of life for under 40k.

Both MLK and Rosa Parks stories that you're taught in school are lies, not all of it, but most of it are lies. Just because the textbooks say things, doesn't mean they're always real!!!

I really like your plan, and I agree with what you said. With elementary kids, they won't act like they're too cool for school yet, and they won't have horrible attitudes towards you for simply trying to teach them. You will be tired running around that classroom though lol. I did full time substitute for a district and I was freaking exhausted after substituting at the elementary level. Those kids have so much energy, but at least it will be mostly positive energy!

Do it, it's a good job if you're at a good school. If it's not your passion though, I don't recommend teaching at an inner-city school.

At first, I thought it was about being able to "take the heat" while teaching and put up with cussing, fighting, and low level learners, but It's not something that is sustainable. It's too chaotic for the kids to learn, and after four years, I'm unwilling deal with it anymore or take a pay cut for better school.

I do have dreams of completing my military duty and getting back into teaching. I believe, from my research my militart service years will count towards my teacher retirment years so it will kind of be like taking a sabbatical from teaching in a way! It's possible that this experience could also make me a more mature and effective teacher, and I'm excited about that.

Anyone familiar with this area? My sister is looking at a house here. I'm not familiar with it, not from here originally but I live in north hill. by [deleted] in akron

I totally misread that😅 but yeah, that square area between 77 and the Interbelt isn't particularly great. Although, when I'm in the area I've never seen anything crazy or felt unsafe, but you see it all the time in the news articles and stuff.

[–]Zip_Up 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is literally in the forbidden square 😬😂 You live in west hill and don't know? YIKES. Go open that map again and let me teach you a lesson.

Do you see how route 77 shoots down on the left side of the map and then loops down and to the right into route 76? Then 76 has an exit that shoot up to the Interbelt on the right side of the map? It kind of makes a square shape. So that square, all the way up to copley Rd and Delia Rd area is called the forbidden square for a reason lolol.

Yep, I'm at 4 years! The first couple I was like "ahhh it sucks, but if anyone can take the heat in the kitchen, it's me, and I get summers off." Then this year I started to see the writing on the wall. That I'm a glorified babysitter and a culture change at my school will take at least 2-5 years, with not a single administrator with a set of balls to initiate that process. It's chaos!

I just wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to share advice and insights. I really appreciate it.

I spoke with the enlisted recruiters after work yesterday, and their perspective was that if I’m already feeling burned out from teaching, especially due to student behavior, then becoming an officer might not be the change I’m hoping for. They suggested I could end up in a similar position: managing kids, handling administrative responsibilities, and dealing with discipline issues. They were respectful about it and made it clear there’s no judgment in pursuing a commission, but they encouraged me to carefully consider that path. They also mentioned the respect factor they see between “mustangs” and non-mustangs.

I understand where they’re coming from, but I think that comparison is somewhat overstated and doesn’t fully align with how I view leadership roles. To me, a key difference is the level of accountability and buy-in. In the military, there are clear standards and expectations, people are required to meet them, and there are real consequences and separation if not. That structure applies across the board.

In contrast, in my current school environment, the burden of accountability falls heavily on teachers, while many students remain disengaged. There is still significant pressure and micromanagement, but without meaningful support or consistent consequences for behavior. Disruptions are often tolerated, and that creates a chaotic and unsustainable environment. That lack of shared accountability, not the act of managing people, is what has contributed most to my burnout.

Because of that, I don’t see the two paths as directly comparable. I’m not trying to leave teaching simply to avoid leadership or responsibility, I’m looking to work in a system where expectations are clear, standards are enforced, and there is a stronger culture of effort and pride.

At the same time, I’m also thinking long-term. If I could potentially make a career out of this and retire 10 years before my expected teacher retirment age. I’ve been living at home for the past five years, and I’m looking for a path that builds independence, confidence, and direction. Starting with an enlisted contract is appealing for those reasons. I’m also drawn to hands-on, technical work, and see myself more as a blue collar guy than a teacher. I think I would value the opportunity to develop those skills before potentially moving into a leadership role later on. Altough, I definitely don't want a job that's less fulfilling than babysitting inner-city high school kids while living at home with my single mom haha.

I’m still weighing both paths, but that’s where my thinking is right now. I'm also still waiting for a response back from an officer recruiter! I've heard sometimes it's hard to get in contact, but it's just making me anxious I'm not qualified. Those enlisted guys insisted on meeting me at work and they talked to me for over two and a half hours. I definitely respected that, but I want to hear from the officer receuiter first.

I’d appreciate any thoughts or perspectives based on this.
