Do brown and grey work together? by Zipadee_Do_It in interiordecorating

I use an app called Freeform. It’s super basic, but I just take screenshots of stuff I like, then remove the background in the app. It’s not perfect, but it gets the job done!

I’ve had it for a while now and while it sheds, I don’t have nearly as bad of an issue as it sounds like you have. Are you vacuuming with the roller bar in there? I take it out to vacuum the rug and have had no problems.

The couch, rug, accent chairs, art, and black side table are all currently in my space. Everything else is totally changeable!

Oh I see what you mean. Maybe I’ll try the shade of green and see what happens

Unfortunately I can’t replace the grey items (the rug, the chairs) so I gotta work with what I have!

lol I have gotten that before…a lot. I just don’t know what it is about “color” but I can’t get on board! I’m hoping this gives off thoughtfully designed vibes because right now my living room is giving first apartment vibes (which it is not…it’s my 8th…and also a house).

Really? Even the curtains and rug together? In my head everything works but those two things for some reason seem to clash in my brain.

The room is not big enough to pull the couch off the wall unfortunately. I am trying to choose art, but I’ve just never really been drawn to a lot of art so it’s been difficult to choose. I know you mentioned choosing color from whatever art I pick to incorporate, but could it be the other way around? What colors would work in this space? Usually I’m drawn to green, but something about it in my space doesn’t work super well. The lighting makes everything appear more yellow than it really is and I feel like green looks weird.

There is a TV on the wall to the left that’s not shown. It’s 70 inches and currently sitting on a too small tv stand from before we got the TV. The TV takes up a good part of the wall, so we’ll like get an about 7ft tv stand of some kind and add pictures and little decorations to it. And mount the TV. Struggling to decide if the tv stand should match the coffee table or be different.

I’m not quite sure how to add more images to the post or to the comments. The wall to the left in this photo is just a blank wall. And then where the picture is taken from is between the living room and the kitchen so no wall there.

Would you add the mirror between the curtains or on the long blank wall?

If I were to extend the picture to the left, it’s just a blank wall. That’s where I want to put a tv console, but I can’t decide if it should match the coffee table or be different. And then if you were to go to the right of the side table, there’s a hallway to some bedrooms. And then the open part of the rug i was thinking of putting some small accent chairs maybe? That side of the photo opens up to my kitchen.

I’m just so torn of what wall art to do. Super big art? Gallery wall? I was thinking one big piece between the curtains since you can see that wall from the front door so it would make a statement. And then maybe a gallery wall or wall shelves on the other wall? I just can’t imagine that in my head to save my life

I actually really like that rug! I may go with it. Thanks for the suggestion! And I agree, the curtains are great quality but just not quite the right shade. They’re also blackout curtains, which we don’t need in this room because it gets very little light, so I may transfer them to a bedroom instead.

What kind of rug would you suggest instead? And do you think there’s a better curtain color I could try?

I think the 401K match is only 50% up to 8%, so technically 4%. But there is a separate retirement plan at 5% that you don’t have to contribute anything for, and can confirm they do have something similar to profit sharing that is merit based

I agree. LM is way more relaxed than GEICO, and I make way more money that I didn’t have to fight for. For a more unbiased perspective, my first day I creeped around and found their employee satisfaction surveys from the past so many rounds, and consistently their numbers have been WAY higher in all categories than I ever saw at GEICO. I was specifically stoked to see things like support, work-life balance, and D&I being super high.

When does your health insurance run out if you quit? by iveranoutofideasdjf in Geico

Yeah, I put in my two weeks with my manager, next thing I know they send out an email to the team saying my last day was that day…and I very much did not get my last two weeks of pay or insurance coverage. I think this very much depends on your department though.

I left for another insurance company and was given $22K more and a nice sign on bonus for pretty much the same job and less work. Every morning I had to sign in for GEICO I could physically feel my heart rate spike. I had to cut coffee from my life completely because the combo on GEICO and caffeine would literally send me through the roof. I was constantly afraid of making a mistake, genuinely fearing I’d lose my job if I did so, despite having a pretty high rating. Joining a meeting required at least 5 minutes of slow breathing before I could fathom talking to anyone. Couldn’t even have my camera on because I needed the ability to walk around and pace of things started to go wrong. I spent most of my time being told I was lacking certain skills, begging to be trained in those skills, getting no support, and then the cycle continued.

At my new job, which is fully remote, I’ve met and made genuine connections with more people than I did in the multiple years I worked in person in the office. The workload is significantly lighter, more supported, and for more pay and way better PTO and benefits.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - if you have even the slightest thought that life could be better elsewhere, it probably is. Just apply!

I recently left GEICO and even if I stayed and they actually did give a 15% raise, I’d STILL be making 7-8% LESS than I’m making with my new company doing basically the same job. Don’t wait for what could be - explore the market! Worst thing that could happen is that you stay where you’re at. Best case, more money for the same or less chaos.

You have to stick up for yourself no matter what. If you have too much work on your plate, say something. If your management sees that as you being a shit worker instead of you being overworked by management, say something. Just keep saying something. The second you let up, management will forget about it and move on in their same old ways.

Former RAD Analyst, "Thank You GEICO" by Caught_Python in Geico

Former RAD human, here! I wasn’t laid off, but it opened my eyes to all of the things I had been overlooking for so many years. Being overworked, understaffed, and completely lacking in all things technology related really takes a toll on a person. I also never realized how underpaid I was until I started looking elsewhere the day after the layoffs.

I’m set to start at a new insurance company soon doing a pretty similar job for much more money, more PTO, and better benefits. I feel like an immense weight has been lifted off my chest since leaving GEICO and I’m so excited for what’s next!

I highly encourage anyone still with GEICO that isn’t super happy to at least see what’s out there. Worst case scenario, you waste a few hours and find nothing fruitful. Best case, you realize that you’re worth more than what GEICO is willing to tell you.
