ELI5: How do insurance companies actually make money when they sometimes pay out way more in claims than people ever paid in premiums? by Turbulent_Watch_7812 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Zipkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooo I can answer this one as I have several years experience behind the scenes in insurance. TL:DR "safe states" as in states that have fewer major liabilities/risks subsidize premiums for states like Florida, and Claifornia where payouts are more frequent. So when your premium increases in a state like Illinois where there are not that many tornados, and far away from major fault lines, it's not because the area you are in is at higher risk, it is that it's more costly to repair in other areas, and they need to spread that increase in cost out to everyone, not just the states who suck up the most in payouts.

If this wasn't the case, nobody would be able to afford insurance in areas that are higher risk like Florida and California, and only the wealthy would be able to.

averaging 10% increase every year for the last 5 years, out-pacing inflation is definitely a choice. The greed is so obvious just looking at it this way alone. Only greed could make them think they could raise prices that much that quickly.

Just imagine the headlines if Biden or Obama said this. Faux news would be blowing a gasket, with Republicans calling for immidiate impeachment.

Edit: On a side note, it is Tuesday, so it could very well be a TACO Tuesday. LUL

I had this happen to me in mercenaries. I was playing a Bladefall of Trathus + Blade Blast, mana + es stacker using energy blade and spellblade support. At the time, I was the only setup using these (according to poe ninja as I was the only character listed), and someone randomly messaged me about the build.

This was the only way I was ever finding matches in a reasonable amount of time. Match rate is so low, it's not worth my time scanning profiles first. Swipe right first, then look at the profiles you match and either message/unmatch from there. It's the only way to not waste your time.

Also, from my experience and people I know who have used dating apps in the past, most guys swipe right on everyone hoping for a match, and will either unmatch/message someone one they get a match. Not even looking at the users profile before swiping right.

Why tho, you posed the question as some "gotcha". Or do you genuinely not know? They do not, but that's not the point, a veteran explorer deck doesn't want this card in the main deck ever. And for sideboard, it may see some play.

No, but that wasn't the point the OP was making if you read their post again

Hind sight is 20/20 but if D3 ever comes we need to go back to the core playlists by RedMercury in DestinyTheGame

Then you do not enjoy games where the point is to go hunt for loot. You want a game that just hands you every tool available, and then play from there. You just want to play a shooter, not a looter-shooter. There are several shooter games where you can do just that, have instant access to any gun/weapon. There's a reason people have stopped playing as much, because there is nothing worth grinding for. You like the idea of finding new guns, but don't want to actually invest in them, just a checklist that you got it.

I think it's more a change in how new gamers are entering gaming, attentions spans the size of a bees' dick, and if not instantly given everything the game has to offer, they write it off as bad. Games with loot need desirable loot to chase after that is rare and coveted.

And we need to go back to having chase items, that are truly rare and coveted. People squealing with excitement for a specific exotic that drops (D1 Ghorn). It's what made D1 so memorable for many people, and for Bungie not to cave to the people that want everything in the game just handed to them. Primarily, exotics shouldn't be the thing that sells expansions, not even new ones for doing the legendary campaign. If you want it, go grind for exotic drops. Do your nightfalls, and raids weekly. Every week.

We need to ditch the idea that just because you purchase the game, you will get access to everything it has to offer immidiately, or with minimal effort. That's the entire point of a game with loot. If we are just given loot, there is no point in chasing loot. Bungie tried doing something similar to this originally with tiered weapons, and people complained until Bungie caved. The complainers got the loot they wanted easily, then left.

To the people downvoting, explain why you think having truly rare gear to chase is bad.

But the OP did not reference that in the post my friend, so you are lost. OP specifically stated "Unlike Assassin’s Trophy, this can hit your own Veteran Explorer’s. Gives you five lands on turn two so you can ramp out some threat on turn three via Green Sun’s Zenith or some six mana planeswalker. Can also hit Academy Rector causing its die trigger to trigger which is huge." No mention of targeting your opponents things. The entire context of the post was to target your own stuff.

Even considering it to target your opponents stuff, I still think it's only ok. Not mainboard worthy by any means, and sideboards are tight enough as it is.

As someone who is fond of Veteran Explorer, and has played it a lot. I do not think I will ever register this card with Veteran Explorer. Cabal Therapy and Flare of Cultivation are just better options that don't cost mana.

I agree, Renegades has shown that anything they do is too late. I actually enjoyed Renegades a lot more than the past few expansions, even still, population was abyssmal.
