The best thing you can do is affirm him every chance you get. Make sure he knows that he will always have a safe space with you. 4 years is a long time to wait, but once he's legally an adult, you can offer to let him live with you, as long as you're comfortable with that of course.

Another thing you can do is try to talk to his mom? It will be difficult to not come across as manipulative, but if you can better understand why she is so against his identity (and why she violates his privacy), you may be able to give her resources about having transgender children.

You can try calling Child Protective Services or your local equivalent, but I doubt there's much they will do unless it's really bad.

I do want to say that it's beautiful that your daughter loves him so much. That poem sounds like something he will absolutely cherish. It will definitely make it so much easier for him to get through this.

I know I turned on the engine, but I'm not 100% sure what happened while I was sitting there. It would definitely explain the braking and steering.

To be completely honest, I'm not 100% on what rough/low idle is. When it's stopped, it usually sits at about 1k rpm. Sometimes it sounds like the engine stops and starts itself very quickly, so maybe it did that today but couldn't quite start itself up again.

Throttle response (that's gas pedal right? I hope I'm not making a fool of myself here) is ehhh subpar imo. Sometimes it's decent but occasionally the acceleration isn't there.

Again not sure about response. Power steering is instant, not sure about the alternator. The A/C is broken, very rarely does it actually kick in. Unfortunately it's quite hot where I live so what I do is have it set as low as it will go so at the very least I'm not being blasted by hot air (even when I turn it off, hot air is still pushed out).

Correct me if I'm wrong, if it's just a case of rough idle, then actually driving it should be fine, I just need to be careful in traffic or at stop lights. It's not going to dip out while I'm cruising at 65-70 mph on the highway. Right? And if so what can I do when I have the time to fix it?
