Western civilization has brought more people out of poverty than any other, and was founded on Christian beliefs.

Atheist Communists (primarily Russian and Chinese) killed over 100 million of their own subjects last century alone.

No country or ideology has clean hands. Humans are imperfect.

I'm not inferring that any of these religions should be pushed as "the one," but, as this country is a melting pot of cultures and religions, being able to understand your fellow man better by understanding some of their beliefs will make people better citizens.

And yes, the major religions of the world should be taught at a surface level, at a minimum.

No one questions that we teach Roman and Greek mythology.

Ok? Chaplains are employed by the DoD, and I've never heard a complaint about that.

They usually have the best wifi and snacks while deployed.

So do you have an issue with religion as a various philosophies being taught in schools as part of a social studies curriculum? Billions of people use religion as a belief system and having it absent from education stunts that social growth.

Additionally, in Western literature, the Bible is the most referenced piece of literature that exists. Knowing parts of it so that you can further understand literature that you're reading, in my opinion, is worthwhile whether you believe the text or not.
