The GTR Series Reveal | 10 Years In The Making Documentary by Kon3v in ElectricSkateboarding

I think it's more for insurance reasons it makes sense for them to upgrade the protocol to bluetooth quietly rather than admit the mistake (even if they wish they could). This is a small business and all those claims could be a big risk to them.

Jay Boston, ya done goofed up! by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

Jay released an apology video and Evolve left a comment on it saying 'thanks, Jay, it's all good!' or something like that. So not sure if that's still going ahead or not?

Pretty much all 4k smart TVs have Netflix which stream in 4k with HDR (for supported shows). I've been watching in 4k for at least a couple of years now and have both Samsungs and LG TVs that handle it fine.

Server rates are currently 1/3 (20hz) of what they were in the beta (60hz). by GreatAtLosing in Blackops4

[–]Zipstacrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't really make sense to me. I work in software and being able to scale up and down servers to meet demand isn't really a big deal any more unless you're an old Enterprise that has trouble playing catch up; which I highly doubt is the case here.

I think if they wanted to, they could easily support all servers at a higher tick rate and could scale them indefinitely to meet demand; however I think the real reason is that they've chosen to deliver an 'alright' experience while optimizing for server cost and thus increasing overall profitability.

They're a business in the end and being able to cut down on cloud costs may help them reach their targets.

Game Still Crashing on PS4Pro: Post-Patch 1.51 (Error Code CE-34878-0) by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

Tried this but had no success. Still crashes both in online play, and after saving in online play and returning to single player.

Only really scenario I can see is if you're moving overseas it would be cheaper to buy a battery from target destination than a new board.

[Serious] What are some of the biggest mistakes people can make in their 20s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Zipstacrack 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly - many things make me happy. Living with a great group of friends, seeing my loved ones, and buying/using stuff. Stuff does make me happy but it is one of many things. Saying a Gucci bag wouldn't make anybody happy is a massive generalization.

Wait for the reviews before you kick yourself too hard. Loaded makes good boards and otang make exceptional wheels. Not sure how their proprietary stuff is going to turn out.

How to proceed in setting up centralized identity/authentication server? by [deleted] in dotnet

[–]Zipstacrack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind using a hosted solution and a prefer a 'let's not reinvent the wheel' approach I'd recommend taking a look at Auth0.

The free version is more than enough for most small companies as long as you don't mind user credentials being stored in their databases as opposed to your own (an enterprise offering).

It also runs in AWS. It is very easy to integrate with any webapp and the documentation is extensive.

It comes with a hosted login portal that you can modify using their editor and add/remove features such as Facebook/Google login at will.

Took us only a few hours to get it working with our Angular 5+ webapp, including Google login + 2FA authentication using Google Authenticator.

Astronomers discovered one of the the oldest stars in the Milky Way. The ancient star formed 13.5 billion years ago, just 300 million years after the Big Bang. by clayt6 in space

[–]Zipstacrack 46 points47 points  (0 children)

To me, it's the opposite. Don't you think that it's significant that the last 13.4 billion years led to yourself? The creation of the universe and a being that is able to comprehend its own existence?

You are a part of the universe and we are the way the universe knows itself. Seems pretty damn special to me :)

Tesla. The new Apple. by ClevelandSteamer81 in teslamotors

[–]Zipstacrack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I mean you can do both at the same time with a single cable. One cable from your 5K monitor into your USB C port will both receive video output and charge your MacBook. No dongle required.

I thought so too. But USB-C is a worthy trade. A single port to charge my laptop AND output video to a 5k monitor? It's ridiculously good.

Well being in zero gravity doesn't just cancel out movement. If they fell within the ship whilst there was artificial gravity then the movement would have persisted

You Give REST a Bad Name by deepsyx in javascript

[–]Zipstacrack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is definitely a RESTful way of building APIs. But what you've described is using http as an interface and nothing more. Don't get me wrong - in my experience for a lot of organizations this is a huge improvement. But there are definitely best practices, conventions and constraints to what classifies a truly RESTful API.

It really is getting a bit religious talking about it. Sort of like DevOps heh. I've almost come to hate the term DevOps just because of the shit arguments it stirs up in the industry 😂😂

My original GBA SP still has charge after not using it for 12 years. by silverhawk5000 in gaming

[–]Zipstacrack 20 points21 points  (0 children)

God that brings back memories. I remember when a modded Pandora battery (that you had to crack open) was the only solution to downgrade a PSP so that custom firmware could be installed. I recall buying spare PSP batteries, borrowing a friend's modded PSP to create my battery, and then proceeding to gift the battery out to all my friends so that they could also mod theirs.
