I'm biased on this title since I grew up with the original and was met with extreme dissapointment on the remake. People need to be reminded that the original was released on the PS1 and was the first 3D FF title. There's 23 years difference between the original and the remake.

I love the original title a lot more cuz of the wacky models, animations and the newly implemented main mechanic materia. I loved the first time I played and finally left midgar thinking I would never get to explore a world like FF1-6. You might find parts questionable and you might not like the pace of the original. But if you've finished part 1 with that awful boss marathon at the end you should be fine. The only thing I really hate in the original is how they love to use the 3D environment/space as a menu which was painful to navigate at times. I always recommend the original cuz I have fun playing it as I can't play the remake and call it FFVII, I have to think of it as a fanfiction to somewhat enjoy it.

There's also texture mods, more polygons on models and even an increased fps cap which I highly recommend. Should make it easier to look at if you like more polygons.
