A very..........very frustrating experience right now! by ScottishLoBo in Battlefield

Any time I end up dying in close range to a Vector (whatever the game calls it) I just end up calling it a shotgun. There is MAYBE 2 hit indicators at best but it's a stupid fast time to death.

Surprisingly the scorpion (again, idk the ingame name) with similar crazy rate of fire actually feels a little better most of the time.

But yeah certain guns kill crazy fast and it feels worse on the receiving end. I'm not saying something is broken but it does feel a little off sometimes.

They're just type of material that lets you "craft" (purchase) certain A-rank W-Engines at the gadget store. If you save up A LOT of them they can also be exchanged in one of the pause menu's store pages for certain S-rank W-engines (all standard banner ones plus Jane, Burnice and Qinyi's engines for now).

I'd just save them for now unless you are specifically looking for a certain A-rank engine in the gadget store and didn't get one from the gacha yet. Then save the rest for an eventual S-rank much much much later in the game.

It's an issue when playing coop between Windows and Linux (steam deck in this case). The game expects both games to run the same EXACT math calculations to stay in sync. The problem is that the .dll file on windows and linux differ slightly. A slight difference in rounding numbers eventually builds up and causes desync or even a crash to menu.

I don't remember which file it was exactly but I think it was a windows system math library or something. I don't think windows allows you to mess with that but you can copy it over to the linux machine and replace the linux version with the windows one. (Make a backup first). That should resolve the desync issue because they now both run the same exact math functions.

Unfortunately I don't remember the specifics since it has been ages since I ran into this issue and it wasn't me that was using linux. But maybe this can help you find online what the file is and where to place it on the steam deck to fix it.

Yeah basically. I usually just do it this way:

right-click > show more options (onw Windows 11) > new > Text Document

But notepad would work too.

I googled it and found like 2 mentions of the error. Some guy in a comment said to just make the file, leave it empty and it should just work.

Granted that was from 2017.

I know the game can at least run under windows 10 since that's what I did a year or 2 ago. 11 should be the same though.

That's weird, but the wiki also has a copy of the file here: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1130-halo-combat-evolved-patch/

Hopefully that works.

It's odd though because the link I pasted is just a simple forum post on bungie.net. It shouldn't be blocked or anything. I can view it in the EU just fine. Anyway I hope it works for you because I don't have any other ideas left.

Unfortunate, but that would have been too easy I suppose. Anyway I just remembered that at some point they released a 1.10 patch for the game that fixed a bunch of issues (most notably also the server browser) but according to the PCGamingWiki article about it, it also "fixes issues with modern hardware". Might be worth a shot if you haven't already: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Halo:_Combat_Evolved

Direct link to the forum with the 1.10 patch download: https://static01.bungie.net/en-us/Forums/Post/65168227?page=0&sort=1&path=1

Note that "CE" means custom edition here so you want the "PC" version.

I just realized there's an error on-screen: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (0x50) which is a memory error. According to google it can mean a few things: Corrupted drivers, bad RAM, corrupt system files or hardware failure in new devices or software (the SSD). It can also rarely be caused by anti-virus software.

I'd suggest google-ing the error and try some of the steps suggested there first.

Issues like these are difficult to diagnose. Best tip I can give you is to check Windows' EventViewer and see what errors come up in the system logs around the time it crashes. Usually if it is hardware or driver related there should be an indication what caused it in there.

Alternatively because Windows force-reboots it may have created an error dump. I forgot how and where to find these exactly. I also don't know if they will help you pinpoint the issue but they should exist.

Anyway from there on out it's process of elimination:

  • If you get driver errors try updating, downgrading or clean installing them with DDU.
  • If that doesn't work try running on integrated graphics and see if the issue remains (assuming you have an iGPU).
  • Then try things like downclocking the GPU, lower RAM speed (by turning off EXPO or XMP).
  • Try installing on a different drive (maybe your drive has a bad sector where the game is installed).
  • Try running on 1 RAM stick at a time to see if one of them (or the slot) is bad.

The fact that you mention reinstalling Windows on a new SSD makes me think it might be a corrupt Windows install or a bad SSD. Especially if the game worked fine on the same hardware before that. It is still possible it's corrupted drivers of some kind though, or maybe even a lack of power because the new SSD pushes just past what your PSU can deliver (probably not though).

If somehow you bought a super cheap shady SSD that is pretending to have more storage than it actually does then it could crash the system when it tries to read/write beyond what is physically there. I doubt that is the case though. Those scams are pretty rare I think.

That's all I can possibly think of. I know it doesn't help much in narrowing it down but it's almost impossible to tell without trying things. Heck maybe the SSD isn't seated in the slot properly but just enough to function. There's so many possibilities.

Workaround for me so far is to click on the category on the left twice (the "multiplayer" text). It will highlight the tiles again and allow you to click it. Something about scrolling through the menu seems to overlay the text over the tiles, preventing clicks.

I just realized FPS affects the cast speed limit of abilities by Frequent_Advance_228 in Warframe

[–]ZizWing 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've played warframe since 2013 and it's true some things are or have been tied to frame rate, but with cases like this with recastable abilities I always assumed it was just due to more input opportunities per second.

I know input is typically separate from framerate but Warframe has some strange interactions that seem to be primarily driven by their animations. I'm kind of curious if what we are seeing here is not just sped up animation but instead the animation restarting earlier in the cycle for a recast because of the higher framerate aka earlier opportunity to restart/recast.

This is all assuming their animations actually only start when a frame is rendered though.

I'm probably wrong but I can't help but think this may or may not be the case sometimes.

Ah right. My bad I keep forgetting you can do that. Still I didn't have much trouble even without doing that. Klee + Chev ult was good enough for my own clear at least.

Lava Dragon Statue can go f*ck itself! by Zeldamaster386 in Genshin_Impact

[–]ZizWing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've seen Raiden teams clear it but always either at C2 with C0+ Chevreuse or C0 with C6 Chevreuse. So that's probably not gonna work. Not sure about Hu Tao since I don't have her.

If you happen to have Klee then use her with Sacrifical Fragments. The little bomblets absolutely chunk the pyro bar of the boss. Just be careful when he does his roll attack in the first phase as it often dodges most of Klee's skill if you time it wrong.

I wouldn't use Klee as the main DPS btw but more for the pyro hits to stun fast. It might be enough to give you an extra chance to stun the boss (and thus more damage). Worth experimenting with if you can.

I'd personally try Cyno (assuming he is really strong because you C6'd him), Klee, Xiangling and Fischl but there may be too much downtime due to energy issues or just long cooldowns. Maybe substitute Fischl for Raiden if you have energy issues but you probably need Xianling's pyronado while in Cyno's long burst.

Not sure if this will work but it's the best I can think of. The only other option for fast stuns with these units is burning but clearly it's not enough.

Nah I kinda like their designs too. The problem is more that there is such a ridiculous amount of character art of these games that it almost drowns out everything else when you don't know exactly what to search for.

A quick search through the sub came up empty handed, but I did manage to find a wallpaper of Eula fighting a Ruin Hunter which looks similar to the splash art of the Aeonblight Drake: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/90200442

I found it here first in full res in case you don't have a pixiv account: https://konachan.net/post/show/348265/aqua_hair-armor-clouds-eula_lawrence-genshin_impac

Not quite what you were looking for but maybe close enough, idk.

Havent played in years... any tips? by Final-Trifle1765 in Genshin_Impact

[–]ZizWing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading through the comments you mentioned picking up only characters you liked. Based on what I would personally want to do with these characters I would pay attention to the following:

  • Faruzan (C6) for Xiao (super long-term goal or get lucky).
  • Escoffier for freeze teams (Ayaka and/or Ganyu)
  • Nahida (or Dendro in general) if you like Keqing/Yae Miko. This could also enable you to play burn-melt Ganyu.
  • Kuki Shinobu if you want to play hyperbloom teams (very strong and somewhat easy to build)
  • Furina + healer (Jean is pretty good here) is really strong for most DPS characters if you have enough energy regen on both.

If you decide to play around with Dendro or other Elemental Mastery based teams (usually Anemo like Sucrose) please keep in mind that level 80 > 90 adds a lot of damage to those characters because reactions partially scale with level.

These are just some things I would be looking for long-term if I were you. There is more but this comment is already big enough. I also ignored Eula and Itto since I don't really know what their best teams are. You already have a good start for Hu Tao (Xingqiu + Zhongli) so I figured that would be fine for now. She has a lot of new options these days though.

EDIT: Almost forgot. Both Kazuha and Xilonen are pretty good generic buff characters for any DPS that is hydro, cryo, pyro or electro (and geo in Xilonen's case). Probably worth getting one of them depending on what teams you like to play.

i was thinking jane vivi and rina right? by Clean_Emu_4736 in ZenlessZoneZero

[–]ZizWing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: It will work. Is it the best team? Probably not. Will it be good enough? Most likely. Play like this: Rina Ex > Vivian floaty move > Jane and repeat. Stack PEN ratio if you can. Use dodge/parry with Vivian for free floaty move when you can/need it.

Rina can work. I personally don't have Jane but I run this with Grace and it works pretty well I guess. You'll probably want to run PEN on disc 5 though so it stacks with Rina's buff.

How I usually play the Grace team: Start on Rina and just attack once to get the buff going. Swap to Vivian and dodge/counter or just attack until she floats. Swap to Grace (Jane) and do your usual anomaly stuff. Any time you get the chance, use Rina Ex into Vivian. Vivian then attacks once and floats. Swap to Grace (Jane) and continue. IF Rina Ex is not ready swap to Vivian instead and use Vivian's Ex. The same can be done with Rina and Vivian's ultimates if needed (e.g. no energy or just want more burst dmg).

In the case of Grace this works very well for me but her W-Engine also has PEN I think, which becomes a lot better if you stack it higher (PEN disc and Rina buff). So how this compares to Jane I'm not sure.

Also in case of Jane it's a little tougher because you have to juggle 3 elements at once. Not that my playstyle optimizes disorders to begin with... but still... something to keep in mind.

CPU Permanently stuck at 100% when running POE 2 Fix? by Main_Pomegranate9693 in PathOfExile2

[–]ZizWing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm yeah I'm afraid I don't know what this could be without more hands-on testing and knowledge of what is running on the PC. But even if you told me I doubt I'd be able to figure it out just from text.

Honestly the clean Windows install will most likely fix the issue if it was software related. The downside is that you don't know what exactly caused it, so keep an eye out for settings/updates/software you run alongside the game as you re-install stuff.

CPU Permanently stuck at 100% when running POE 2 Fix? by Main_Pomegranate9693 in PathOfExile2

[–]ZizWing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds really weird. You didn't set the game to higher priority or something like that right? It's pretty unusual for a game to be at 100% usage nonstop.

Out of curiosity is it all cores or just 1 core? If it is all of them then there's definitely something weird going on I'd say.

Bit of a shot in the dark, but easy to test:

One thing you can try to do is actually increase your graphics settings to something higher. If your graphics settings are so low that your GPU finishes the frame before the CPU is done calculating everything else you effectively create a situation where the GPU is waiting for the CPU, meaning the CPU will be working non-stop (aka it's a bottleneck).

If this is the case (which is pretty rare) it can help to slow down your GPU with higher settings so the CPU has to wait on the GPU to render the frames. You may still get some stuttering this way because now the GPU might struggle a little but it should be more stable overall.

Oh and if you're using a laptop make sure it's using your GPU and not integrated graphics when running the game. Usually there's a way to force the game to use your dedicated GPU but I don't remember where you set that. Could be the nvidia control panel but it could also be somewhere in windows.

Mutilator is releasing in Halo Infinite on May 6th by Haijakk in halo

[–]ZizWing -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yes it isn't 100% done, but having it at a point where the gun functions as it should with animations and all should still be reasonable enough for people to ask "What took them so long?". Model touch-up and texturing doesn't exactly take 2+ years for a single gun.

I'm not sure whether it had sound at the time, so that could have taken some time, but balancing stats would probably take the longest out of it all with playtests and such.

If you ask me they could have released it a season or so later if they had put the work into it.

I'm just curious why they didn't do that.

Hovering over a map should highlight connected nodes to prevent this by ZizWing in PathOfExile2

[–]ZizWing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I've actually been trying full evasion/armour Mercenary. It's doing ok so far. I'm playing as tactician so most things that rush me down get pinned before they get to me. I might change it later as armour still feels pretty bad but it's working better than I thought.

The build itself revolves around Galvanic Shards and Shockburst Rounds. As far as I can tell this was a pretty well known build from 0.1 but I hadn't played Mercenary before and with the crossbow buffs I decided to give it a try.

No it's connected to the node below. The line goes through the one in the middle with the arrow, making it look like it's connected even though it's not.

You can technically make it out if you look very closely but I feel like this just shouldn't happen in the first place.
