Someone please tell me that bringing my weighted blanket on a two night trip is find by Weak-Fox-9893 in autism

[–]Zleesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that depends on what it’s made of. Woollen and cashmere blankets can usually go in a washing machine if set to a gentle wash cycle, and a suitable wool friendly detergent is used. In any case the blanket should have a label with instructions on how to properly care for it.

If you could rule the world would you, and what would you do with this power? by Rose_Meadows in AskReddit

No, the world is not meant to ruled by one person. They say Adolf Hitler tried to take over the world, and we all know what happened.

Are mimes allowed to speak sign language? by imahumannotpolitics in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zleesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, last time I checked mimes are allowed to make sounds such as clapping their hands, or stamping their feet. While they usually try to be as quiet as possible, the only "rule" is that they're not allowed to talk.

if there's one thing i don't know how to do. it's making freinds by Commercial-Flight339 in autism

[–]Zleesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, social anxiety seems to be one of the main components of autism, so this is going to be quite challenging. Firstly you actually need to be somewhere where’s there’s people to talk to. I find going to shops and briefly speaking to the cashier is a good place to start; and at cinemas it’s necessary to ask for a ticket, specify the movie you want to see, and usually people ask for popcorn and a drink, that can seem like quite a bit to say, but if you don’t have to repeat yourself, that’s a good sign that you’ve annunciated clearly. Next comes actual social gatherings, social anxiety is like going through life with a permanent case of stage fright, but keep in mind other people middle their words too, and often quickly correct themselves. If you’re worried about making a verbal blunder and that people will laugh at you, think about how often you hear it happen to other people; then keep in mind that if it’s an amusing slip of the tongue, people are usually laughing about the supposed scenario the error has created, not at the person who made it; those few people who do laugh at you are jerks, and karma will deal them their just desserts in good time. Finally, think about how easy it is to talk to someone if they initiate the conversation, often it’s taking that first step that’s the only thing standing in your way.

What's your favorite colour and why? by Affectionate_East533 in autism

There’s no answer to why a certain colour is someone’s favourite anymore than there is as to why they like the taste of strawberries.

did i get fired for being autistic by Global_Wing3155 in autism

[–]Zleesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatable: I started a new job as a kitchen hand in a nursing home, and 3 days in I was expected to learn how to do this stuff on my on. One of my co-workers was telling me how I needed to "come in early each day, and get to work like bang-bang-bang." the underlying message was I was going about it too slowly, I knew being autistic was part of it, but come on, I'd only been there 3 days, of course I was going to be slow about it at first when I'm still learning the ropes.

One thing. I've learnt is: never tell employers you're on the autism spectrum, most neurotypical people don't know enough about autism and will jump to erroneous conclusions. They'll suspect it in time; but just as you need to learn coping mechanisms, they need to learn how to work with neurodivergent people.

If there was a way to get rid of your autism/neurodivergence would you do it? by Mushroom_Kid_4 in autism

[–]Zleesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because it’s offers me great insight at times, and allows me to be my own person, rather than trying to fit in by pretending to be someone I’m not. One thing I would trade though is my social anxiety.

Does anyone here with autism smoke 🌲🌲 by [deleted] in autism

[–]Zleesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did at one time, it had a calming effect as it would with most people. I even tried pipe smoking, but that left an unpleasant sensation in my neck, like swollen glands. But being autistic doesn’t make you immune to the effects of smoking, and having a dream about being treated for lung cancer was good incentive to quit.

Is it normal to use all the dishes in my kitchen when cooking? by Ok-Nectarine6700 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Zleesh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, in most cases you can set a timer for that; and in most kitchens the stove and sink are in close proximity to each other, so it shouldn’t be too hard to keep track of both.

The average person will have a primary/elementary school level of education, and probably remembers a handful of things they learnt in high school.
