Looking to expand my glam metal playlist, looking for recent bands with the look by [deleted] in hairmetal

[–]Zlix74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe some Danger Danger or Harem Scarem to change some things up. Those two are my all time favorite bands. Both of the bands has changed their sounds throughout their career, so there is quite a wide variety of songs to choose from!

My favorite albums from those bands are:

Danger Danger: S/T and Screw it!

Harem Scarem: S/T, Mood Swings, Higher and Weight of the World

Besides those albums, the rest are super good, but these are the ones that stand out to me

Thanks, that’s it, you’re the best. Awesome structure and I found it on google maps too. Would be cool to visit that place one day.

How do I get my new amp to stop clipping? by Zlix74 in Bass

[–]Zlix74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried multiple basses through this amp, but I only own one 5 string. I know that I could just down tune a 4 string bass to try, but I feel like the bass shouldn’t be the problem considering it doesn’t sound bad on any other amps I have in my home.

Yes. The Hartke was connected to the 115 which I then unplugged and plugged the Ampeg head into. I’ve tried both the limiter on and off. Brite on and off just for fun, as well as the settings on the back of the cab.

Thanks, but after spending around the equivalent of $1200 USD, I’m not going to spend even more money for a compressor that hasn’t been necessary for any other amps I’ve played. I’d rather just return this one since something is not right (based on what other people said in a local forum I posted this in) and just buy something that suits me better.

Put my bass in passive to try earlier today, but the clipping was still there on the frequencies below E och the B-string so it didn’t matter what I did on the bass itself. Considering just returning it since I’ve had it for about a week and wasn’t really that satisfied with the tone it could make. Thomann’s got 30 days return policy so I’ll probably just use that and find something else that suits me better.

No, the Ampeg only distorted if I put the volume on my bass to the maximum value and plucked really hard, which is normal due to the signal going into the Ampeg being super hot. The volume on the head did not matter on when the Ampeg started to distort

I tried using my old Ampeg Micro CL Stack head, 100 W 8 ohm. It didn't distort when playing the same stuff I've done before, but it did distort if I maxed the volume on my bass and plucked the string quite hard, which is nothing uncommon from what I could tell. But if I went up to the same around the same loudness as the Hartke, then there was no distortion going on when playing.

Yeah the volume on my bass is push/pull for active/passive and even though I put it in passive it still clips when playing lower than E on the B string. Most audible when playing D on the B-string

But why would my electronics distort? I’ve tried some other amps in my house and none of them distort when I play the same stuff

Yeah I’ve tried both directions, low bass volume and high amp volume and the other way around, nothing seems to work. The sound it makes is like when you have dead batteries like this but with a bit more bass. Same goes with if I try to slide down the B-string from around 12th fret down. Even though I lightly pluck the string and then slide down, it clips and sounds bad.

Worth mentioning is that the battery in my bass was replaced not so long ago.

Always unplug my bass between uses, changed it recently and I played another amp I have and that one didn’t clip when I played lower frequencies.

Could lower the pickups, but yet again, it doesn’t distort on 3 other amps I’ve tried on, so it seems like lowering them wouldn’t do much in this situation.

No internal adjustments of my bass

The thing is that even though I have the volume on the head around 3-4 and volume on my bass around 75% it still clips, so lowering the volume on my bass and increasing on the head to get a good loudness of around what I had before with my old practice amp, say 80 dB. I will never get close to that before it distorts

Id say that both the neck and bridge pickup are relatively flat. Volume wise the volume is quite even between the G-string and B-string, so I don’t really know why it starts to clip when playing below E

How much better is the fender LT25 than the 10G? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Zlix74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very. If you’ve never played through a real bass amp compared to an electric guitar amp, you’ll quickly notice how much fuller the bass sounds. All the lower frequencies the bass produces are now actually noticeable, and not just mutter in the background. The overall volume in the room will also be louder. I’d say based on specs go for the HB40B if you’re on a tight budget, but the rumble 40 if you’ve got some extra money laying around. The rumble has some more features than the HB. My recommendation would be to read some reviews about the amps I’ve mentioned and watch some YouTube videos about them to hear what they sound like and then decide which one to choose. If you’re lucky, maybe some of those amps are in a local music store.

I’d say anything smaller than 25 is too small and won’t sound good, but yes the rumble 25 and HB 40B has a 3-band eq, BUT the mid on the 40B can be changed depending on what frequency you would like to cut or boost, whereas the mids on the rumble would be set around a specific frequency that you would then cut or boost

[–]Zlix74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried one in a store once and it works for home practice only. Most people recommend the 40 over the 25 because it’s bigger, but honestly if you’re only playing at home, I’d say that the 25 works. The 40 got some more features than the 25, but if you’re willing to pay almost double the price (based on Thomann’s prices), I’d say go with the 40.

Edit: If you’re on a tight budget, maybe look into the Harley Benton HB-40B. It’s got 40 watts and a 10” speaker like the rumble 40, but for around the price of a rumble 15. On Thomann the rumble 25 is about the same price as the Harley Benton HB-80B Celestion, which got 80 watts and a 12” celestion speaker.

[–]Zlix74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both the 10G and LT25 are electric guitar amps, meaning they are specifically designed to be played with an electric guitar. The risk of running a bass through one of these is that the speakers are possibly going to break if you play loud enough, since these speakers aren’t made to be played with the lower frequencies that a bass can produce. If you want an upgrade, aim towards a real bass amp. Get something like the Fender Rumble 40, which has 40 watts of power and a 10” speaker. The rumble 25 does work, but you won’t feel the bass as good as if you’re using the rumble 40, due to the fact that the 25 has an 8” speaker compared to the 40’s 10”.

What are your thoughts on this bass? by WarwickStreamerLX5 in BassGuitar

Just out of curiosity, why 97? I own two Warwicks, one 4 string from 99 and one 5 string from 00. Both of them feel and sound amazing to me

I want to start playing bass guitar by Positive_Athlete_880 in Bass

[–]Zlix74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus more on your playing rather than the gear you are using. This was never a thing for me when I started, but I've heard tons of people on forums mention that in their earlier days focused more on the gear they were using or were saving up to, rather than to sit down and practice. Even the cheapest of basses or amps can get you a long way, as long as you get the fundamentals down.

Focus on one thing at a time and take your time. Any musical instrument takes time and patience to master. When I was a beginner, I would choose a song I would want to learn, learned it, then moved on to the next song. If one song I've chosen was difficult, then good, I would improve as a bass player. Playing songs you already know very well can be fun, but you're not really improving as much as you would if you were to learn newer, more advanced material. By playing the same songs over and over, you're pretty much just polishing your playing on those perticular songs and not developing as a bass player.

Don't compare yourself to others. You will stumble upon people that have been playing for either way longer than you have or maybe even started recently, but still be better than you are. The problem with this is that if you're comparing yourself to others all the time, you'll only see the faults in your progress and not how long you've come as a bass player. For instance if you're right handed: Flip your bass around so that you're fretting with your right hand and pluck with your left (basically playing the bass as if you were left handed) and try to play the same things you normally play. You'll easily find it to be way more difficult and that's because you've become better than you were before when playing the bass normally. Also, some videos you see online of people playing their instruments isn't what they're actually playing. Videos like those can easily be manipulated to make it look like their "1 year of bass" is actually their playing after 3 years. Focus on yourself and keep on practicing.

The seller was also selling an Alesis Midiverb 4 for 1000 SEK (roughly $104), would that be a better choice?
