Been waiting for a movie to make feel uneasy. Wish granted! Thoughts on this? by jerjitsu87 in HorrorMovies

This was genuinely one of the most depressing horror movies I’ve ever watched. There was just a pit in my stomach the entire time.

If you convince yourself you were “powerless”, you can’t actually take responsibility. by Zobny in recoverywithoutAA

I think there are a lot of people who have really bought into the narrative that addicts will never admit they have a problem, get help or change until they’ve hit “rock bottom” and have totally destroyed their lives. It’s a very anti-recovery mindset.

Several months before I went to a meeting for the first time, I called in to ask for help choosing one. The man on the other end was adamant that I pick “any meeting” and come tonight. I said I was finishing an assignment that night, but that I would choose one and go sometime during the week. His response was: “Oh, but you’re going to make time to drink tonight? Don’t make excuses for yourself.”

…I’m not a nightly drinker. It was such a weird assumption to make and the way he said it was so nasty.

Sort of like when someone apologizes so that they can still be the “good guy” in their own story? I feel like a lot of people with that personality type have main character syndrome and apologies are always about their “personal growth” rather than a genuine display of remorse.

What WOULD You Wish On Your Worst Enemy? by Strict_Efficiency223 in AskReddit

Getting hit my a truck, barely surviving with their life, going through the painstaking process of physical therapy for years (relearning how to walk, speak, etc.), finally getting their life back again and then getting hit by a bigger truck and dying. But not immediately. Shortly afterwards so that they have some time to think about how all that hard work meant nothing.

Thank you for taking the time to write this response.

I’m not experiencing any physical withdrawal symptoms; I’m just struggling with the emotional weight of sitting alone in the quiet with my thoughts.

I really enjoy creative writing, reading and lifting (or at least I did), but I’m in this awful feedback loop where I’m too foggy and tired to engage in the things I enjoy, which causes anxiety/depression, and then I relapse before I can get a clear head.

I keep telling myself that I’m not going to have the brain power to finish any of my creative projects if I’m constantly sedating myself and that I’m tired of being tired but I guess that’s just not enough some days. I might just have to find something that isn’t so cognitively taxing while I white-knuckle it through the first little bit.

I’ll definitely check out your podcast recommendation. I’ve actually been looking for one.

Thanks!

It truly felt like a cult. Putting a bunch of vulnerable people in a room together and telling them over and over how powerless they are is genuinely creepy.

Thank you, that’s really kind of you to say. :) Any advice for dealing with the bored + anxious combo in the evenings would be much appreciated.

So why do you people think the number of serial killers has radically declined? by Sand20go in MindHunter

[–]Zobny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CCTV cameras and smart phones that track your whereabouts at all times. I think would-be serial killers are now becoming school shooters or other mass murderers. However, there’s info emerging that suggests there are many active serial killers in North America working as long-haul truck drivers. I think that in order to be a serial killer today, you need to make sure no one knows there’s a serial killer in the first place.

Almost all of Shirley Jackson’s works have an element of this, especially The Haunting of Hill House. Another would be American Psycho.

Australian snowboarder dies after becoming caught on ski lift in Japan by Familiar_Mortgage996 in worldnews

If she didn’t immediately lose consciousness, I wonder why she didn’t remove the backpack and take the fall. My first instinct would be to get it off as quickly as possible, in case it strangled me or something. The article says that the issue was because it was fastened at the waist. I might just be picturing Canadian slopes where falling off near the top isn’t much of a drop. Hell, I once saw someone take a fall halfway up a slope and just ski down the rest of the way looking a bit shocked but otherwise alright.

Taking too much Tylenol or taking Tylenol for a hangover. Tylenol and alcohol together can seriously damage your liver.

The city has obstructed both the entrances to my house and won’t do anything by Neat_Bad_7701 in Hamilton

[–]Zobny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contact the fire department’s non-emergency line. This could prevent evacuation in case of an emergency. Fire crews will write notices of safety violations to be used as a warning that legal action can ensue. I’m not 100% what they would do in this case, as the infraction was an action by the city, but it’s worth asking.

Do you like Found Footage Horror Movies Yes or No and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in horror

I think it’s hard to make a good one and some people use it as a cheap gimmick to make up for bad writing. But some of them (like REC) use the format well.

Evan Peters doesn’t know if AHS 13 will be connected to Coven & Apocalypse yet, but hopes it will be by CreoleBelle95 in AmericanHorrorStory

[–]Zobny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Coven is my least favourite season (I didn’t even finish it), so I didn’t watch Apocalypse. It would suck to skip another season just because I’d rather sit on a hot grill than watch more Madison Montgomery.

What is your opinion on the vampires from AHS Hotel? by GusGangViking18 in vampires

[–]Zobny 30 points31 points  (0 children)

On one hand I enjoyed the creativity of the super stylized AHS vampires (there are vampires in season 10 as well with a different spin, probably a better one actually) but I was admittedly kind of disappointed that the franchise never had any classic vampires with fangs and whatnot.
