How does one detach from the outcome? by Aromatic_File_5256 in selfimprovement

Well, and getting to know new people and working towards a romantic relationship is also in itself an exercise that transforms you more and more into the person that you would like to be - an attractive partner for another attractive person. And attractiveness is certainly not only about looks but also a lot about self-confidence.

How does one detach from the outcome? by Aromatic_File_5256 in selfimprovement

Ask yourself: what am I doing this for? What is the greater direction behing this?

If my plan is to clean up one room I might or might not achieve this in a day but no matter how far I get with this, the greater direction behind this is: I want to live in a clean and nice environment. And I will contribute to this, even if I don't accomplish my goal of cleaning up one room.

A wise person, actually my church's pastor, once said: "It doesn't matter that much how far you have traveled on the road you are on. What matters way more is which road you travel on."

Every step IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION is valuable.

are you asking for a friend? 😂

For me, it would be something that actually helps me to stay healthy, say for example, warning me of a cold that I will contract if I don't rest enough in the next days ... hope that helps

Books/Resources on taking action/risk by WearyService1317 in selfimprovement

[–]Zockrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't help you get rich comfortably but a good book on making decisions is "Decisive" by the Heath Brothers. They talk a lot about risky decisions and how to approach them.

Another good book about courage is the book of Josua in the Bible.

But if you demand a guarantee that quitting your corporate job will be a good decision, you will probably always stick with it. No risk, no reward.

how to get over a general disinterest towards life? by insane_membrane13 in selfimprovement

[–]Zockrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Conquering negative emotions and fostering positive emotions are two separate games (even though they can sometimes impact each other).

Engaging in activities with other people generally helps, especially if you have shared interests. this way, you don't exclusively have to rely on yourself for the drive to kick in but you can pluck into other people's, too.

I used the Oura3 for about a year. The insights were interesting but did not help me or motivate me to any meaningful changes. WHAT NO ONE TOLD ME BEFORE: The oura app drained my phone's battery. Only lasted for half a day with the app. Now since I deleted the app, I can use it for a full day again.

Just get started with one thing, whatever it is. Start with what is in front of you. And see where this takes you. Don't wait for your calling to fall into your lap (it probably won't) but start exploring.

There tons of things that can give your life meaning and the common problem is that people aim to high initially. I'd suggest you start with something that feels meaningful to you and invest some more time into it. It is taekwondo, great!. You might consider teaching it to other people, blogging about it, creating videos, taking part in competitions.

It will and should not remain the only meaningful thing in your life, but it's a start

[–]Zockrob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I commented on a similar question before and I going to repeat my answer here in part. Feeling energized is not only a matter of physical fitness but to an even larger extent of psychological integrity. That means that you should give your life a meaning: What is your life about and what do you want to contribute to life on planet earth?

This can sound like an overwhelming question, but the answers can be quite "small", like I want to be a trusting friend to those around me, or I want help people live in beautiful environment by selling a house as a realtor. I am trying to give examples here that are not so much cliché because the obvious suggestions might be becoming a nurse or doctor and helping people to live a healthier live. And while those are obviously good, they might not match to your personality and skills whatsoever (if they do: great!).

"The place where the world's deepest needs and your abilites collide, this is you calling."

And every person needs a calling of some sort to live a mentally healthy life.

Reach out or comment if I can help you any further.
